Very Happy

Intel Core i5-2500 - Core i5 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Intel HD Graphics 2000 Desktop Processor - BX80623I52500
Intel Core i5-2500 - Core i5 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Intel HD Graphics 2000 Desktop Processor - BX80623I52500

Pros: I purchased this processor to replace an old Athlon 64+ that I built 6 years ago. The difference is, of course, astounding. This is my first desktop multi-core processor, and it makes multitasking a snap. I'm planning on playing some games using this computer, but only after I've upgraded my old video card. Booting up my old copy of Half Life 2, it runs quite well, despite the bottleneck.

Cons: I suppose I could mime most other reviews here and point out that this processor is not, in fact, a K model. I do hope that prospective buyers have done enough research to actually realize this, however.

Overall Review: It is true that the K model is only $10-$25 more (depending on sales), but if I was interested in overclocking (which I am not), I would also have to have a purchased a board which allowed it (another $30-$40), an aftermarket cooler (another $30-$80), and a higher power PSU (another $30-$100). This means that overclockers are potentially spending $150-$250 more for that privilege. Overclocking can be great, but let's not kid ourselves: it's not just another $10, nor is it for everyone.

Excellent RAM

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH

Pros: Worked out of the box with no problems, and my computer runs and boots fast. While this may be shallow, I love how this RAM looks in my case!

Cons: None at all.

Excellent Budget Case

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: 1. Easy to work with: panels come off both sides, and its very easy to remove the front panel. Also, while this is not a large case, I never felt like I didn't have enough room (full ATX board with discrete video card). 2. Love the onboard fans: quiet and selectable to three different speeds. I added an additional 120mm fan to the front and temps seem nice and cool. 3. Cable management: it was easy to route extra power cables behind the hard drive bays. I managed to route the 8 pin and the fan power connectors behind the motherboard. 4. Looks: I really like the looks of this case. It is understated, yet still flashy.

Cons: Obviously, this case is missing some of the nice features of higher end cases (e.g. front end USB 3.0, painted inside, better hard drive mounting solution, etc.) But this is a $60 case (I got it for $34.95 with MIR). If these are important, look at something more expensive!

Overall Review: I have an older PATA DVD/CD Burner that I wasn't sure would fit; it did without any trouble (it is a little over 7 inches long). I'm also planning on upgrading to a larger (and faster) GPU, but do not anticipate any trouble with room in the case.
