Great starter Receiver

Yamaha RX-V479 5.1-Channel Network AV receiver with Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Yamaha RX-V479 5.1-Channel Network AV receiver with Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Pros: Easy to setup hardware. Really nice audio quality for music and movies. Simple menus with no-frills navigation. Remote is simple to operate, if a little uncomfortable to hold. Blue LCD display is not distracting to the eyes. Absolutely the right choice for someone new to home theater setups or the casual enthusiast.

Cons: Uncomfortably boxy remote. Like most AV receivers, it's not anything special to look at.

Overall Review: Although the default LCD brightness isn't too distracting, do yourself a favor and learn how to dim the display. I have it as low as possible and it is still easy to read, but doesn't draw the eye.

High quality and durable

Anker PowerLine+ Micro USB (6ft) The Premium Durable Cable [Double Braided Nylon] for Samsung, Nexus, LG, Motorola, Android Smartphones and More
Anker PowerLine+ Micro USB (6ft) The Premium Durable Cable [Double Braided Nylon] for Samsung, Nexus, LG, Motorola, Android Smartphones and More

Pros: -Very solid construction -Long -Includes storage case. I believe this was an OEM case for eyeglasses, actually. -I never have to worry about the integrity of the connection with my devices.

Cons: -Rigidity might be a putoff for those used to cheaper, flimsier cables

Overall Review: I bought a pair of these, as the OEM Samsung cables seem to last a couple of weeks at the most. As soon as I received the 2 for home use, I immediately bought one for work and one to keep in the car in case of emergencies. The packaging was very impressive and made me feel like I was buying a great product. The storage case was a nice touch, and I actually ended up using one of them for my glasses. It very well MIGHT be charging faster than the stock cable. It might just be my imagination, though. I'm kicking myself for not spending the extra money on better cables. I will absolutely look for Anker products in the future.

Inexpensive, easy to use remote

Logitech 915-000230 Universal Harmony 350 Control One-touch
Logitech 915-000230 Universal Harmony 350 Control One-touch

Pros: Easy to setup and modify controls via MyHarmoy application. Very simple, clean layout. Comfortable to hold. Easy to use without a large amount of extra button presses to switch to another device. Buttons can be custom-mapped to user's preference.

Cons: Not a fan of the glossy texture. Collects fingerprints easily. Definitely feels inexpensive.

Overall Review: Overall, I'm happy with the remote. If you are still using cheap-o grocery store universal remotes, do yourself a favor and spend a little extra for one of these.

Ergotron Neo-Flex 60-613 Wall Mount for Flat Panel Display
Ergotron Neo-Flex 60-613 Wall Mount for Flat Panel Display

Pros: The install was fairly painless for someone with moderate installation experience. Clean look. Easy to adjust tilt.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Make sure you have the uprights on the correct side. If not, you will not be able to control the tilt easily.

Very Surprised

BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Power Router up to 54Mbps/ Open Source DD-WRT Support
BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Power Router up to 54Mbps/ Open Source DD-WRT Support

Pros: Very strong signal that can be picked up relatively far from router. No lost connections. Increased speed. Easy to flash third party firmware.

Cons: Unable to access certain option without being directly connected via Ethernet cable. Not enough to reduce product quality.

Overall Review: I'm used to dlink and linksys routers. I have been faithful to both companies for years, but switching to buffalo's router has been a choice I don't see myself regretting. It's great to have a dependable connection that I know will stay strong during long uploads via FTP.
