In Robotic Vacuums

We are very impressed with the build quality and the performance of this robot. The parts fit well and are not flimsy. It is quiet and cleans well. We use it most of the time in the 'Room Cleaning Mode'. It will clean several rooms at once if they are joined without any barriers but we find it harder to manage that scenario. We prefer to get one area done so we can then use it while the robot is busy somewhere else. We simply get the room ready for cleaning by removing any object we can from the room. Waste paper baskets etc. We make sure there are no loose wires, bath mats or thin carpets. Chairs usually get stored upside down on any convenient table. We also restrict the area that we want cleaned by closing any doors. If there isn't a door to the room or if we don't want it to clean the whole room, we use chairs placed on their side to provide a barrier (photo 63r). You don't need to barricade 100% of a passage - just enough that the robot can't get through a gap. Then we let the robot do the job. I tested it at the top of some stairs and it sensed the edge every time, turned back and continued cleaning. It is a bit nerve wracking to see it motor up to the edge but it never failed to sense it. It can be controlled with the supplied remote and/or a cell phone. The display on the cell phone shows how much area has been cleaned and the time taken (photo 70r). The battery has a good capacity - in the room shown on the cell display it only used about 1/4 of the battery charge. The robot can crawl up onto a thick carpet we have without much problem (Photo 21rr). In another room we have a carpet with tassels (Photo 22r). These tangle in any vacuum cleaner and the same thing happens with the robot. It stalls and stops cleaning. It stalls quickly so there is no overheating or damage to the robot. Because I did not want to go and get our regular vacuum out, I simply used the remote control to guide the robot up and down the rug (Photo 81r). The up/done buttons drive the robot forwards and back and the left and right button, spin the robot in place to let you chose the direction of travel. Then I rolled up the carpet from both ends and let the robot loose again. If the robot is in the same area as the charger it will return and recharge on its own. If not, you simply carry it back to the charge station and place it in front of it. We are surprised at just how good a job it does of mopping our kitchen floor. We use it to vacuum the floor, since it makes no sense to mop a floor without vacuuming it first. Then we use a mixture of tap water and white vinegar. 10 parts of water to 1 part of vinegar is the solution that many professionals use. We find it does a better job than any store bought floor cleaner. We were surprised at the amount of dirt and dust bunnies the robot cleaned when we used it for the first time. It certainly reaches some hard to get areas, such as under large armchairs and couches. It's also satisfying to watch it slow down as it approaches a wall. Then the sprung bumper touches the wall without leaving any mark, and the robot reorients itself for the next cleaning run. The robot comes with well designed tools for maintenance and especially for cleaning threads or other debris which get wound around the cleaning rollers. Two mopping pads are supplied and are easy to clean by popping them in the washing machine. The exhaust filtering system with the Hepa filter works well so you don't have dust being blown back into the air. No smell and no extra dust. One important factor is the excellent customer support. They answered all my questions clearly and promptly. I wish more sellers were like that.
