Pros: Allows bridged networking. I route my internal network (10.0.1.x/24) through this unit. Gave it a static ip and set lan to be bridged. Rebooted hooked xbox up to lan port and it got a 10.0.1.x IP. I then configured port 1 to talk to my 8.5 call manager. Done in 5 minutes.
Cons: Price but ehh.. It's new
Overall Review: Very happy with this unit. All that's left to do is finish the custom dial strings.
Pros: Easy to use with Asterisk, Kamailio/OpenSER, and BYOD ITSPs. Web configuration will be familiar to those with other Cisco/Sipura devices. Small physical size. If you already have ethernet cabling (to a PC, etc.) near your phones, you can add the SPA2102 without pulling new cables Sufficient power to ring two real 2500 phones (2.0A REN).
Cons: Within the past year, Cisco stopped signing SSL server certificates for end-users. This makes remote provisioning a PITA. This won't be a problem for most users, but it's really annoying if you're a small business trying to give them to employees for home use. Be prepared to dig around to find the documentation you need, A small stand for vertical mounting would be nice.
Overall Review: Remote provisioning aside, the while Cisco/Linksys/Sipura line of small business oriented phones Just Work. If you have phones/CallerID units with FSK MWI, the SPA2102 can handle them. Did I mention I'm unhappy with Cisco's new server certificate policy? Even if you buy through a Cisco sales rep, the certs are only good for two years so you have to keep up the relationship or you're hosed.
Pros: Not too much trouble to install. I now have 2 reliable lines using 1 number, with up to 5000 minutes/month of outgoing calls including US long distance. All this for about 1/3 of what the telco charged for 1 line
Cons: Configuration of this box is a little chore. The parameters are documented but not intuitive. But the VOIP provider provided all the support needed.
Overall Review: The phone port wiring is not documented anywhere. Center pair port 1 is line 1, center pair port 2 is line 2. If you connect to household wiring, disconnect the telco beforehand and use phones with a REN = 0 (powered ringer).
Pros: Great device, has support for data/fax transmissions, extremely 'tunable', more options/buttons/switches than your average Boeing 747. It can be put into service with just a few settings or customized any way imaginable. Excellent sound quality.
Cons: None. If you are new to SIP providers and VoIP, do some homework, read all you can, and keep it simple at first. Well more than worth the investment in time to keep from throwing money at 'Ma Bell' and her evil children.
Overall Review: If you aren't into lots of config options and have nightmares about 'VCR programming' from back in the day, steer clear...there are simpler devices out there. If you want basically your very own telephone central office without kicking up to an Astrix, this is what you're looking for and more.
Pros: It works but only used for 1 day. Am configured with it off an old reliable wired Linksys BEFSX41 Router port rather than between the cable modem and router/PC.
Cons: 1) IMO its pretty pricey. 2) Should have come with 2 Ethernet cables rather than one, as it can be used as a router. 3) Runs hot and a 2 penny plastic base to stand it on end would increase heat dissipation and reliability. 4) No hard copy of any sort. 5) A CD with really nothing on it except the "installation docs" which is a kluge doc 3 pages wide and two pages high that was formatted as one page so you cannot easily display it on a monitor nor print it. The install portion poorly written and incomplete. Thankfully my VOIP provider had clear easy to follow instructions.
Overall Review: Two star deduction for lack of hard copy and poorly written documentation ... need the keys to be able to drive the car. One star deduction for price & no second Ethernet cable. One star deduction for poor heat dissipation design.
Pros: None yet
Cons: None yet
Overall Review: I'm considering the SPA2102-NA Voice Gateway to replace my current telephone adapter after getting burned by the fact that it will not support inbound DTMF. Because of this deficiency, I am unable to control my alarm system and answering machine remotely. Can anyone advise if the SPA2102-NA Voice Gateway will properly support inbound DTMF? I am unable to find the answer in the documentation I have read.
Pros: Linksys makes good products. User interface is nice, config is easy. I should have read the product name; doh!
Cons: None
Pros: Relatively easy to set up with sufficient knowledge of SIP technology with my Trixbox configuration.
Cons: Device supports it's own feature codes which can override system preferences, took some poking around to get it set-up just right to bypass.
