Just 20 months old and already failing 9/24/2020 2:49:55 PM

Pros: Worked for a while

Cons: Still accessible to the system but failing badly, stuck in nearly infinite retries.

Overall Review: Western Digital has no idea how to manufacture reliable hard drives anymore and doesn't care if everybody knows it. This drive is running undisturbed in a cool, dry place along with 12 other drives. The other drives aren't Western Digital. They still work. This is the one that failed. If Western Digital wanted to be absolutely certain that their investment in building spinning disks becomes worthless as quickly as possible, this is how.

Hi JRG,

We regret hearing about your experience with WD Blue Hard disk drive and appreciate your time for providing the feedback.

In order to isolate the cause of the drive failure, it is recommended to connect the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer and check the drive for any damage or defects. The Best practice is to run diagnostics with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We have placed a few helpful links below providing more information for your convenience.

"Testing a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows":

If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary.

Smooth & Quiet 9/2/2020 8:07:51 AM

Pros: Its new, its super smooth and quiet, it works great.
This drive was substantially thinner vertically than previous models.
As in if it were a book, it would have less pages.
Installed it in my xbox360 and I'm super happy with it, makes zero noise.
make sure you get it 100% NEW.

Cons: I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend changing the intellipark timer from 8.0, to 600 seconds.
Unfortunately this can be quite a pain, especially if you're non computer literate... you have to boot into your BIOS, and DOS amongst other things.

Overall Review: Overall I would recommend this for upgrading XBox360 or PS3, I think it is one of the only ones compatible you can still buy new. Just make sure to change the intellipark timer. If it is for laptop I might go for a larger capacity toshiba drive if possible.

Good for backups 8/14/2020 6:59:13 PM

Pros: I use this in a USB enclosure for periodic backups. So far, it's worked great. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 seem to be about 100 MiB/sec for large files.

Cons: For this drive's intended purpose, none. I wouldn't want to use it as a boot drive.

Overall Review: It's kind of amazing how much storage can fit on a 2.5" drive that's only 7mm thick. The cheapest SSD is still 2.5x more expensive than this drive on a per GB basis. So it looks like there's still a place for mechanical hard drives for at least a little while longer.

OEM Drives have no warranty 8/6/2020 4:52:02 PM

Pros: it lasted 1 year then died, lost all data

Cons: There was no warning or indication that I was purchasing an OEM Western Digital hard drive and there is no warranty on OEM hard drives through Western Digital.

Overall Review: No warranty, no hard drive, no data....

Manufacturer Response:
Hi Anonymous,

We are sorry to hear about your experience with the WD Blue Mobile Hard Drive and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Western Digital (WD) sells hard drives to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)'s such as Dell, Compaq, Apple, HP, DVR manufacturers, etc. OEMs purchase these drives without warranty from WD at a reduced cost. The OEM computer manufacturer would include the hard drive under the warranty of the computer system that the hard drive was installed into. It is best to contact the place of purchase for any support for the OEM drive.

We have placed few links to know more about the the OEM and their warranty details.

Failing after 9 months 7/11/2020 9:23:19 AM

Pros: It seemed like a pretty good price for a backup drive.

Cons: I have been using it for Mac Time Machine backups for 9 months in an external "toaster".
It periodically makes noises that something is grinding or scraping.
I have to but a new drive because I can't rely on a 2TB drive that is making noises.

Overall Review: I would not want to ever buy a drive that is noisy.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi Denis S.,

We regret hearing about your experience with WD Blue Hard disk drive and appreciate your time for providing the feedback. Current drive technology dictates that some noise will occur during normal drive operation. The type and volume of noise are dependent on whether the are drive performing a read/write operation or idle with the heads parked. It is important to recognize which noises indicate trouble or normal drive operation.

WD Blue Laptop Hard Drive 6/16/2020 2:31:41 AM

Cons: The hard drive they sent me was not new it was a used hard drive in a lenovo laptop the front of the drive showed physical signs of wear it had two partitions on it though it checked out fine after deleting and formatting the drive. It had no bad sectors, i would have returned the drive but i was time limited with a customer in my repair shop. I wont be purchasing from this seller anymore.

Overall Review: Selling used drives as new is bad business, i wouldn't recommend this seller.
