great value (I got it on sale) 9/15/2020 2:33:11 AM

Pros: It works now that I have it up and running. Doesn't lose the connection to ISP after a power failure like an older router I bought in the same price range (now used as an AP). The interface is nice. Haven't had any noticeable drops in connections so far. Latest firmware was from a couple months ago (July 2020). The WPS button can be reassigned in the interface to turn off LEDs (hold button until lights turn off) which is nice since there are 9 blue LEDs (this resets after a power failure).

Cons: Setup may not be as smooth as the Quick Start Guide will have you believe (see overall review). The list of clients will disappear regularly as it updates while in the interface.
Some pcs go back and forth between the Windows name and the mobo name and dhcp and static. Same behavior before and after firmware update. Weird interface behavior. Probably has no real effect. Also, had to go to site to get firmware update because the router couldn't directly do so.

Overall Review: I received what looked like a new, factory shrink-wrapped box with all the stuff listed as being included in the box in what looked like factory condition twisted and wound cords. That's what I ordered... a new router. Then I connected the router according to the Quick Start Guide. 1 Prepare your Modem. CHECK. 2 Power on your Router. CHECK. 3 Login and Connect. Login. Login. Login. AUGHHHHH! I guess new routers don't always come with the admin login. I eventually had to reset the router to get it to work with admin. Seriously? A NEW router with a different login and password? Maybe. Maybe not. At least reset the router before repackaging and claiming it is new. BAD company. Once I reset, well, I would say all was fine but I was using the Edge browser (don't use the Edge browser). Loop city on loading the page. I finally gave up and closed Edge, then tried Chrome. Finally, all was well. So, for step 3, I would recommend they include the following statement on the next version of Quick Start Guide: if presented with Sign In page (Main_Login) instead of the Login Information Setup page, reset the router. At least I had enough sense to try that.

TOO EASY 8/20/2020 12:04:14 PM

Pros: Unplugged old router connected new router, restarted modem started router, put in wireless settings and everything was golden.. The interface is easy to follow.

Cons: Only one minor problem the auto firmware update didn't work. Went to ASUS downloaded new firmware update done..
The only really negative was UPS Mail Innovations delivery time..

Overall Review: This is my 2nd ASUS router the first was getting old, and decided it was time.. The old router hadn't had a firmware update in a couple of years definitely outdated

Great performance & price - just make sure you update the firmware 8/15/2020 7:50:00 AM

Pros: A great little dual-band router. I recommend this to anyone, but make sure you stay current with the firmware updates.

Easy to pick between combined or separate SSIDs for bands, easy setup, reliable WPA, and a decent GUI.

Cons: hard to think of any for the price. 5Ghz range is a bit short, but that's any 5Ghz router.

Overall Review: Great performance & price - just make sure you update the firmware

Awesome dual band router with VPN capability 6/18/2020 9:02:42 PM

Pros: I had been using an ASUS RT-AC1200 for a few years now, but wanted to get one that was capable of running a VPN. The GE version has performed as well or better in general. I use to have to reset the old router every couple weeks or so, but this one has been running for almost 3 months without issue. So i don't think it was my ISP.

Cons: It's not cat proof

Overall Review: I don't honestly know why you would spend more on a router as this one performs AWESOME

Fine if you want to buy a hobby project and spend hours trying to get it to work... 4/1/2020 8:41:06 PM

Pros: Looks nice sitting on my desk. The WiFi won't connect to the internet, but it looks nice.

Cons: A WiFi router that won't connect to the internet is a pretty big 'con'.

With decent documentation to help set up the router, maybe it could be made to work. The only documentation I could find at is the one-page "Fast. Easy. Setup." guide, in Spanish or French. Even in English, that doesn't get you past setting the username and password for the login.

I've spent more than 6 hours the last 2 days trying to get this router to work. Still just a non-functional block of plastic on my desk.

Most of that troubleshooting time was spent researching the problem on the net (using the wired connection from the cable modem) and trying various fixes, with no success. Because the result of chatting with Asus tech support was not helpful.

My chat session with Asus tech support ended when I was asked to make a change, then unplug the wired connection and plug the router into the modem. As expected, unplugging the wired connection dropped my chat session.

And the 'fix' did not fix anything. No internet connection via WiFi.

And yes, the laptop I'm using does work with other WiFi setups.

So will I start that whole process again with another shot at Asus tech support, most likely with a different tech so I can explain it all over again ? Walk thru the same steps and get disconnected again trying another 'fix' ? Nope.

I didn't buy a WiFi router so I'd have a tech project to twiddle settings on for hours and hours.

If you're looking for a WiFi router that just works as it is supposed to, keep looking.

At this point, my only question is ( assuming I can return the router ) :
When I send back this Asus router, do I also send back the Asus motherboard I got with this same order ? Or should I risk running into the same undocumented configuration issues with the Asus motherboard after spending a couple of hours building my new PC ?

Overall Review: I recommend mpt buying this Asus router.
