Super Powerful, but also runs Super Hot 3/17/2020 10:24:02 AM

Pros: >Can eat basically any modern game you throw at it and maintain great frame-rate, even with max graphics settings
>The AMD tuning software is pretty good for basic undervolting, fan rpm curves, power flow, etc, you just have to know what you're doing and take the time to experiment.
>The AREZ logo and RGB lighting give an awesome light-show in my PC case

Cons: >Stock radiator does *basically* nothing to help cool this thing, I'm having to invest in water cooling just to keep it from shutting my computer down after prolonged/intense use and from lowering its own lifespan.
>Extremely bulky (understandable for a high-power card) but also heavy, I'm always afraid its putting strain on my MoBo.
>While the AMD Tuning tool is useful, it has a nasty habit of returning certain settings to default every time you shut down, which I often don't notice until I have a game up an realize that those settings aren't being applied.
>Can't get system fans to power up and sync with the card's settings and temp detector, even when I plug them directly into the GPU's pins that are there for that purpose. Even with research I still can't figure out if this is a hardware or software issue.
>Didn't explain in advertising that 2x 8-pin power connectors are required to power the thing, or at the very least this wasn't made super obvious. I had to get a new power supply AND an adapter before I could use it, weeks after it originally arrived.

Overall Review: It's been a great GPU and has served me well enough, it runs basically any game like a boss even at 4K, but has also made it necessary for me to upgrade to a new case and water cooling system, just to keep the stupid thing cool enough that it doesn't burn itself out.

Once the water cooling is put together then I'm sure I won't see as many issues. However, the problem with being unable to hook up additional fans is frustrating. There seems to be no apparent solutions for this online, which adds to the frustration since more fans working in tandem would surely improve airflow and cooling in the meantime.

Pros: -fast and powerful card

Cons: -boy does this card heats up
-I bought the card on 3-24-19 and I had 2 crashes on my pc in 4 months so far while playing monster hunter world at (74 Celsius)

Overall Review: Overpriced card- I should've went for the sapphire with stable temps

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Kevin,

It is unfortunate to hear that your video card is having performance issues such as crashing while you are playing video games. Are your drivers up to date and does it crash in other games? Keep in mind that this video card uses 0dB technology, meaning that the fans will only turn on when your card reaches a certain temperature. You can manually set your fan curve by using our GPU Tweak software. Let me know if that helps. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused you. I would love to help you troubleshoot more on your issue, if you are interested. Feel free to contact me at or you can speak to an ASUS live support agent 24/7 at I'm here to assist our customers with our products and dedicated in bringing a resolution to all issues that they may come across. Most unstable GPU I've ever used 7/25/2019 1:31:44 PM

Pros: Fast RMA from Newegg

Cons: Tested with default settings in two different modern computers (an i7 and new Ryzen 2700x with 800w PSU) and both have system freezes every other day.

Overall Review: Would not recommend this to anyone. Try a different brand or model.

Great card for the price! 4/27/2019 6:48:51 PM

Pros: Smooth game play, high fps (40) in 4k and higher fps on other lesser resolution. Easy to undervolt and over clock.

Cons: This card runs hot, but never goes over 75°C and when it does my fans kick in to compensate and stays steady at 78°C and the fans on high. Not easy to bio flash to 64 and if I do then I have the issue of not having Samsung memory so therefore there is alot of artifacts so I reverted back to 56 bios.

Overall Review: Great card for its price while the Asus Strix ROG version is literally almost hundreds more. But again the Strix ROG have Samsung vram memory thus leaving room to flash the bios for higher mem and clock speeds. It's a very worthy buy for the budget builds.

Good upgrade. 4/3/2019 10:21:42 PM

Pros: Quiet with fans running under 50%. Considerable performance gain on average for most recent games compared to ASUS Strix RX 580. 3 free games.

Cons: Loud when fans run above 50%

Overall Review: Running with Ryzen 1700 and 3200MHz memory. With LG Ultrawide 2560 x 1080 144hz
Assassin’s Creed Origins with RX 580 medium settings : 45 – 55 FPS
With Vega 56 on high settings 65 – 75FPS
My settings on most other similar games followed the same pattern.
GPU encoding h.264 with DVDFab using Playstation 4 mp4 HQ settings jumped from 30-ish FPS
To over 80 FPS.
I haven’t tried to undervolt yet, but setting the fans manually to 45% keeps the clock speed around 1560-1580 MHz, and the temps under 60C.

Vega 56 4/1/2019 2:48:46 PM

Pros: Rebranded ROG Strix. Top of the line quality is expected regardless of Nvidia fiasco and branding.

Cons: DOA Fellas. Zilch, nada, will not function. I totally failed the silicon lottery this time.
(Please see update below)

Tried everything i could to get this card to function smoothly while under load. Fresh windows, all drivers updated, bare bones software, tweaking volts, tried multiple drivers. I refuse to even load a game at all in Apex Legends. I redeemed the free game Tom Clancys Division 2 to test, refusal to load as well. Artifacts and crashes with basic load benchmark in GFXbench and 3DMark even when trying to tweak for stability. Also Hynix memory? In a AREZ? Come on guys. You know the name here is Samsung! I also thought it was strange this card appeared to have been a used card/refurb, open box, with no plastic shrink wrapping and static bag appears very untidy. It was a put off from the start.Anyway, put my RX 580 back in and the PC is running just fine again. This system formerly ran a 1080TI, from Newegg with no issues as well. its not an issue on my end, i know this much.

Overall Review: I have been with Newegg a long time and have full faith that we can work something out, but i am not a satisfied customer, for multiple reasons on this purchase. However I going to do 1 attempt at an exchange. After that Newegg, my bank and I are going to have issues if the internet return/refund/exchange process is any indicator and i will fully explain why.

I initially asked for a full refund completely dissatisfied and frustrated after hours of troubleshooting with no solution only to discover the free games value would be removed from the price of the card. The one and only reason i redeemed the bonus games was to test this card! I made my purchase with the intention of getting a fully functional, top of the line high quality GPU from ROG/AREZ a well respected brand in the gaming community.

As such i paid the full asking price, the value of a GPU of such a nature from AMD and ROG/AREZ. That is what i expect to get. I could care a less about the value of added items, and imo it is absolutely wrong to attempt to remove the value of an added bonus item from the total refund. Perhaps this is a automated attempt to F me over by a senseless internet website process, but i do not like it. Not one bit. The card wasn't selling for $lesserprice, or that is what i would of paid. I would of purchased two at that price! But No. I paid what the GPU was selling for at the time of my purchase. I paid the asking price , and that is what i will get back if the 2nd card from ASUS AREZ is equally disappointing. Even if i need to go to my bank. I paid a lot of money for a quality mid/high end GPU and that is what i want, even if it has to be a an exchange for a GTX 2060 of equal value.

Now i have full faith Newegg and ASUS AREZ, two great companies for me in the past will be able to come through and this will be resolved, and will be updating my review when the new card comes in, and further if other action must be taken. I just want a good GPU for the price i paid. That isn't too much to ask i think. Maybe such expectations are beyond the reasoning of automated return/refund RMA process on the web, but surely i am not out of line to any other sensible person wanting what they paid for. I am not putting anyone on blast, however I am upset and frustrated, understandably so. I have never tried so hard to make a GPU work, and i have a lengthy purchase history with the best from Newegg and its just not happening. I tried fellas. I cant make gold out of mud, try as i might. You guys make it right.

As promised, an update 3/30/209. Approximately a week and half of return waiting.

I received a new GPU yesterday. After cleaning out all driver and software's, i shut down and installed the new card without any issues whatsoever. This GPU is the opposite in every way of the first one i received in regards to ease of installation.

Pros: Great packaging, outstanding cooling, laughs at maximum benchmarks from multiple sources, Not a single artifact, games load and play amazing, basically plug and play.

Cons: None. Nothing, zilch, nada. I hit the silicone lottery fellas! This card is bad freaking a--. Seriously. If you get a good one you will be very happy with your purchase.

Other: This 2nd GPU experience was so much better and gave me a peace of mind that it wasn't something else in my system. Newegg and Asus AREZ really came through for me like always and my frustrated panic over the RMA process was all for naught. After contacting customer support and getting in touch with a real person, the RMA issue with the free game value appearing to take away from your purchase price value was clarified. It wont do any such thing, it just looks that way if you handle this sort of thing over the internet automated RMA process.

Highest temp was 65 degrees Celsius and that was really maxing out the GFXBench. Average in the 40's. Gaming is great, cool, powerful and buttery smooth compared to the 580 i have. I cant really tell a difference between this and the 1080Ti i had, maybe a slight bit more motion blur present and lower average frame rates. It really isn't enough of a difference for me to say yeah my 1080Ti was sooo much better. I wish i had a 240HZ monitor to better test this badboy. That will be next on my wish list.

AREZ strix is the ROG strix rebranded GPU i expected. There is literally nothing different that i could tell aside from the name. This GPU has delivered thus far, and delivered very well. Albeit after a dud that i suspect was just a bad apple.
