Wonderful Monitor 7/23/2020 7:43:22 PM

Pros: It seems much larger than the 1080p monitor (another Asus P-series) it replaced on my desktop. Physically it's just about as expected - any larger and it wouldn't fit comfortably. But I didn't expect the ⅓ increase in horizontal pixel count to feel so much larger. I'm still working out how best to adapt my habits to it.

Cons: I can only pick a few nits, though they are ones that recur over and over. The power light has gone from being (on so many LCD monitors) too darned bright, to being almost invisible. I can't tell, without ducking my head down, whether it's on because it hides underneath the frame. This would be a non-issue, but the delay from wiggling the mouse to wake the computer (and monitor) from blanked is enough longer than other monitors that I still, after a couple months, find myself wondering if the monitor is on or not before it lights up.

The other nit is the stand. It's a nice stand, seems even sturdier than the 24" Asus's stand. Has adjustable height and tilts all the way up to a really tall portrait mode. One thing it adds to the older model's stand is a lazy susan in the base that makes it very easy to turn the monitor left and right. And that's the problem, it's *too* easy to knock it a little off kilter, as I seem to do every time I think I need to turn the monitor on and reach for the power switch, which you'll recall isn't visible from a normal seated position, so it involves somewhat of groping for the switch. Yeah, and pictures hanging not quite square on the walls bug me too.

Overall Review: All in all, those minor annoyances really are all I can find to complain about. Oh, and that I didn't buy it sooner!

This is a great monitor ! 7/10/2020 9:21:20 AM

Pros: There was a total of 6 things I needed this monitor to do :
1. A size of 27 inches.
2. A resolution of 2560X1440.
3. A refresh rate of 75 hz or higher.
4. IPS technology
5. Lots of ajustment (height, tilt, etc.)
6. Vesa compatible
The ASUS PB278QV has them all. Image quality is even better than I had hoped.

Cons: Yes, it is a bit massive. Yes, the bezel is quite thick. But I knew that when ordering. If you are looking for "border less", as Ben would say : "This isn't the monitor you're looking for"...

Overall Review: For my needs, this is the absolute best monitor I could buy. I highly recommend !

Great monitor, beautiful picture. 5/14/2020 1:25:54 PM

Pros: Looks great, nice stand.

Cons: Showed up with a big hole in the box on both sides, lucky that it was undamaged. Sorry newegg, shipping company kept it from being 5 star.

Overall Review: Nicest monitor I have bought for the money spent.

Nice IPS Panel 5/9/2020 5:06:19 PM

Pros: -The display works. No dead pixels.
-75 MHz and AMD Freesync
-Works in Portrait mode
-100x100 VESA mounting hole compatibility
-The stand is outstanding with ability to use in portrait mode and tilt
-The menu is easy to use
-TÜV Rheinland flicker-free certification
-Still supports a DVI-D connector
-3 Year limited warranty (keep your receipt)
- Cables plug in the the bottom and don't get in the way of the VESA plate.

Cons: Even though rated for 100% sRGB, the colors still look off to me.
- 8 bit RGB, not 10 bit RGB
Contrast is poor even with all the different settings. This is supposed to be a P or professional level monitor and is why I am knocking a Egg off.
FYI- Using the www.lagom.nl/lcd-test brought no satisfaction. Using the generic windows 10 display calibration tool, I also had trouble getting contrast to look decent.
No official "VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified" or even the older less stringent HDR 10.
Speakers are, what, 50 cents, so they sound like, well, 50 cent speakers
3/4 inch wide bezel gets bothersome when you have 2 monitors side by side.
ASUS multi-frame is a joke that only works with a handful of programs.

Overall Review: I thought I did enough due diligence but buyers remorse is setting in after using this for 2 weeks and seeing the screen.
For a similar price, there is the ASUS PA24AC which while not being 2k, does have HDR-10 , 400nits brightness USB-C and is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified.

I needed an inexpensive second monitor with this COVID stay at home going on.
I already own another Asus monitor that is 5 years old and like it so I thought I would get another.
My use case is just writing code, no gaming, and some youtube video watching.
This has the 100x100 mm VESA holes as I have been burned with monitors having just 75x75 VESA mounts and the monitor arm mounting bracket not fitting.

This is a 2K monitor for under $300
Included cables were both an HDMI and displayport ones and I am using the display port cable.

Downloaded the ASUS driver from the ASUS website so that the monitor's name show up
In windows, Changed the refresh rate to 75 mhz.
I tried the ASUS multi-frame driver. Sorry I can't see the value in that as it only works with a handful of programs and you can do this manually as well by dragging the title bar around. It needs .net framework 3.5 so you can see how old it is.

Technically, Picture by Picture works but you get a 3 inch black band both at the top and at the bottom with the 2 screens side by side. You read the correctly: 3 inches on top and bottom. Losing 6 inches on a 13 inch high monitor is horrible.
Note, unless you like watching 2 videos side by side, you will never be able read the text in either screen which kind of defeats the purpose of Picture by Picture mode.
I feel that was false advertising on ASUS's part.

Picture in Picture allows a small, medium or large picture to be displayed. Again, in my opinion, small and medium are very hard to see even with this being a 27 inch monitor. Large is OK for video like full screen youtube but that is it.

Please do not think you will use this PIP for reading mail on one computer in the tiny screen and real work in the larger screen.
Call it for it is: another gimmick.

I like the 100x100 VESA attachment. Other monitors using VESA 75x75 monitor attachments have not worked out for me as every plate I have used are always Universal attaching to both 75 x75 and 100x100. Sometimes though while the 75 MM holes line up, the HDMI connectors are then blocked by 100x100 connection (ahem Philips).

I would have loved to get the BenQ PD3200U with KVM switch but who wants to spend $700. The other monitor I considered was ASUS PA24AC 24.1" but that was not a 2k but it does have HDR, 100% sRGB , USB-C and is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified. In the end, I thought 2K was primary giving me the best picture but now I am not so sure.

Bottom line. Every product competes at a price point with certain features. At this price point of $299, the screen works as a reasonably priced 2K monitor which is what I needed during working at home during Covid stay at home orders. With most monitors out of supply, this one is a reasonable choice for simple office work like writing code and documentation.

Sorry, I am not a gamer so I can't tell you how games look or behave. Sadly, I can tell you photos with dark areas and subtle details look better on my 5 year old screen than this one.

Also, Newegg has been excellent at finding items but for some reason, searching for 2k monitors does not bring this model up. Hopes this help others in their search for what to buy.

What a Difference 4/19/2020 12:09:15 AM

Pros: - Bought on sale ;)
- 100%sRGB color spectrum
- Responsive Fee Sync
- No Dead Pixels
- Great stands (Swivel, tilt, and height)
- Amazingly Large

Cons: None thus far (May update after further use)

Overall Review: I was upgrading from (2) ASUS VS248H-P 24" 1920 x 1080 Full HD 2ms monitors. The monitors were used for home office use and gaming. I had recently upgraded my graphics card to an RTX 2060 Super and really wanted to push the Resolution. I am not a competitive gamer but like a pretty picture. With the sale i picked up (2) monitors. I also had a desk mount that would have fit the newly purchased monitors. The color reproduction on these monitors is great. The stand i had previously was no longer needed as the provided mounting hardware was more than satisfactory. Great product from ASUS again.
