Pros: This Asus laptop has been the best money spent on a computer. There have been zero problems or issues with it. I use my laptop as my daily driver and it has functioned flawlessly!
While I realize there are other quality machines on the market, it has made it difficult for me to want to look at a different brand!
Keep up the good work Asus!
Newegg.... I'm a "lif-er" customer! Great service, great prices, quick shipping - why go anywhere else? Kudos to you both!

Cons: Only con is technology advancement is pushing me to an upgrade, but I ask myself "why"? This machine functions "as new". I will need to only replace the battery (and I'm surprised it lasted over 3 years actually).

Great Deal 7/12/2010 3:26:23 PM

Pros: This PC is blazing fast and runs every modern game that I have tried to play so far at max graphics capabilities. Half-Life 2, D&D Online, Age of Empires III, Guild Wars, Tribes Vengeance... I have yet to play a game on it that taxed the system. It has not been noticeably slowed by all the protection software that I installed either -- ZoneAlarm Pro, Ad-Aware, and AVG Anti-Virus Free.
When I use this PC, my internet browsing is only slowed by my bandwidth.
I won't be redundant and list the specs when they're one tab over, but this is a fantastic computer for a great price. It's almost impossible to find this kind of hardware for this price -- especially with a graphics card like this one, which is ranked in the top 50 among Notebook graphics cards.
It is compact, but not so small that I feel cramped while I am using it. The 14" screen feels quite comfortable and the keyboard is roomy. It is not very heavy.
Finally, it's an ASUS, so it's rock-solid reliable. What more could you ask

Cons: The battery life runs at about two hours. This could also be considered a pro, but it depends on what you're looking for.
The fingerprint reader does not work as smoothly as desired, but I do not understand this to be unusual for fingerprint readers. Users must swipe their fingers just right to make it work.
The integrated mouse-buttons below the track-pad *are* quite stiff and a little loud, but they are not terrible and it does not take very long to get used to them.

Overall Review: I like this computer so much that I have recommended it to friends and am buying one for my mom for her birthday.
You should buy this computer.

Best 14" gaming laptop 6/28/2010 2:07:11 PM

Pros: Everything is good on it. Really powerful, plays steam games well, love the buttons on top of keyboard. Love Express Gate as well, I use that often. Its an ati HD Radeon 4670, not a 4650, thats better yet.

Cons: left side of the keyboard is really 'springy' I would say. No big deal though. Not the best battery life, but a good 2 hours maybe, It depends what your doing on it as well. The left clicker on the touch pad feels looser, I just noticed that today. Maybe It's just all in my head though. Also, the screen and the frame around it are big fingerprint and dust magnets. That can't really be helped though, its probably on everyone's laptop. The microfiber it came with isn't the best either, it sorta puts smudges on the screen that looks like scratches, and its a pain to look at.

Overall Review: My Gateway Solo1450 SE from 2002 just died today, well sorta. The screen on it kinda goes faded and comes back every so hours, idk its a little weird the way it does it, So I'm glad I got this just in time. This is definitely the Best 14" laptop you can get under $1000. I'm 16 years old and I know a lot about tech.

High performance computer that needs some tweaks 6/10/2010 2:13:36 PM

Pros: Nice video card... actually its a 4670 not a 4650. Biggest bang for your buck laptop

Cons: Keyboard is pretty bad follow the rest of the reviews
Network card.... this network card is really bad... doesnt give off N wireless. If you step 5 feet away you lose 3 bars of connectivity so dont even think about carrying it around the house. I have a fix for this... go to a computer shop and buy an intel 4965 network card and open 4 screws and install it. Very little work and it paid off a lot

Very nice laptop 6/3/2010 4:26:09 AM

Pros: Its amazing that asus was able to cramp so much great hardware in this 14 inches laptop. This laptop has a great video card capable of modern games with medium - highest settings. The processor is great also and can beat some of the i3s at raw speed..

Cons: Asus should have made a larger battery for this powerhouse laptop.

Given that the rise of the i series is at hand, the price for this laptop is still quite high but still not many laptops can be as powerful as this

Overall Review: I was honestly amazed by this laptop because asus is very generous with great hardware.. When I saw this I just had to buy this laptop...

Great Laptop 5/11/2010 6:31:49 PM

Pros: Very versatile, excellent functions and well powered. Has everything I need for work, home, and play. Function key problem has been fixed. Best money I've spent in years!

Cons: The tactile feel from the left side of the keyboard is still an issue, so if your planning on doing a lot of typing and research choose another model, it's annoying but livable for 90% of what I do, but would not want to use it as a main typing machine due to the hollow feel of the keyboard.

Great laptop, except the keyboard 4/9/2010 8:36:58 PM

Pros: Smaller size, fast proc and graphics, respectable optical drive, sturdy build, good screen, ASUS warranty

Cons: Keyboard, keyboard, keyboard.

Overall Review: I would absolutely love this laptop except that the keyboard is just plain awful. Really. The worst I have ever used, bar none. It cannot register very fast typing, and I miss characters constantly, which can be REALLY frustrating when trying to type in passwords. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to write ASUS and call it a design defect. Otherwise, it plays all games I've thrown at it well enough, and everything else has been great. WiFi range is good. My first laptop had a heat issue with the graphics chip and would spontaneously shut down. Exchanged the laptop and no worries now. I'd recommend staying away from this model, however, because of the keyboard.

Lose your brand loyalty and buy this laptop 2/24/2010 6:55:14 AM

Pros: Superior graphics and processing power for the price. (Windows Experience Index of 5.9 - based on lowest score which is for disk data transfer rate. All other components earned a 6.2 or 6.7) Honestly, this alone is the biggest pro. You can play games on this laptop with medium to high settings thanks to the processor speed and video card.

Speaking of the video card, it's actually an ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 1 GB, so that's actually better than the specs listed on here.

There are some supplemental programs pre-installed with the laptop, but there are really only two pieces of true bloatware - some stupid games, and a link to Asus's other software. Otherwise, the program pre-installed just give easier access to functionality that already exists within Window 7 and the laptop itself. Make sure you google "Asus bloatware guide" before uninstalling anything.

24 Month Warranty via Asus, and a 30-day-replacement from Newegg.

Cons: Windows 7 64-bit is a bit difficult to get used to in that not all your program that worked on Windows XP will work here. The Ultimate and Professional versions of 7 come with an integrated XP mode, but Home version doesn't. There is a work-around using VMware player however, but it's more for the tech-savvy.

The partitions on the hard drive don't really make sense. The C: drive (called "OS") is only 75 GB. I haven't finished installing all my programs and I've only got 36 GB left... The second partition, D: "Data" is 208 GB. I assume they intend for you to put your music and pictures and movies there - but the My Music, My Pictures, etc, folders all live on the C: drive. Windows 7 libraries can solve, but still... The remaining (missing) 37 GB must be a hidden, recovery partition.

There is a fingerprint reader/scanner on the mousepad, however, I don't see any software included to actually make use of it.

Overall Review: Keyboard - I don't know that "flexible" is how I would describe it. Specifically, the keys on the far left side of the keyboard feel like they are too springy. They feel and sound different, as though nothing is actually under the keyboard. It's not a con... it's just kinda noticeable.

Glossy finish: I don't have a problem with this, but it may be because I wash my hands to keep them clean and grease free...

Mouse buttons: Yes, they are bit stiffer and louder than they should be, but it's not a con.

Ctrl / Fn buttons: I don't notice that they are swapped from normal positions at all.

Screen size: The laptop is physically the size of a 15", but the screen is a widescreen, 16:9. As a result, there is more non-screen area at the top and bottom. (Like the letterbox you see on your widescreen tv.) Not a con.

You may end up needing to reformat and reinstall Windows 7 in order to fix the silly partitions... however, there's not a true Windows 7 installation CD, just a r
