Pros: External convenience
Long laptop style power cord doesn't block more than 1 socket like so many usb devices
Fast and Quiet
Stealthed faceplate and switch
Bright power indicator
Decent looking considering its size
Keeps heat production outside of your pc case
Cons: Rear power switch is unintuitively designed slider instead of a toggle, done for looks and likely cost savings, when you cannot see it.
Requires powered hub if one is going to extend the usb, which is quite short by default. I learned the lesson the hard way, burns will fail using a simple usb 3.0 extension cord. A powered hub + 1.5M usb 3.0 extension cord worked fine.
Overall Review: People should note that it Is quite big, imagine a laptop folded in half, but you gain the full capability of a desktop drive when the slim models tend to be both slower and louder. My slim Asus dvd-rw usb drive rips cd's at 2x in EAC secure error corrected mode, this does it at 10x.
Be sure to flash the firmware using the utility from the asus website, the one included is quite old, very simple process, runs in windows.
The flush eject button and drop down faceplate design is almost identical to the ones found in Dell's and HP towers.
Testing the quality of an Optical Quantum 6x bluray burnt at 8x using this drive using my internal Asus 16D1HT to run the quality scan showed the burn quality to be identical between the two drives.
Done this way because nero disc speed cannot see usb drives.
Pros: Smooth burning and reading. Low noise.
Cons: Blue accent light is a little bright. Light is a nice touch, just a little too bright!
Overall Review: Loading tray could be smoother. While I am wishing, a slot load tray would have been even better.
Pros: It has more features than any of the others in this price range. Runs fast, and looks great on the desk.
Cons: The door has a minor squeak when it's opening and closing. For the price I paid and the features that I got, I'm completely happy with it.
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this if budget is a concern, like it was for me. Even with all the bad reviews, I'm so glad that I bought it. Just be patient and wait for a deep discount on it (Sale and rebate at the same time).
Pros: Works great with Windows 10
Made by ASUS
Cons: The price went way up since I first bought it.
Overall Review: I only had one minor problem the drive stopped working on my computer but this was my fault I drooped the drive when I was moving it and it landed on the power cable ops All I had to do was install the drive internal and it works fine now.
Over all it's a great Blu-Ray burner and I would buy again if I need another one.
Pros: Whats not to like, works great right out of the box. Use it with an I7 that has no BR burner inside. Burns as quick as most internal BR burners. Over 100 BR burned with zero failures. Just plug and use. Use it with IB software with no problems. TILL IT STOPPED WORKING
Cons: Drive will not stay connected to desktop and keeps cycling on and off every 30 to 60 seconds. I replaced the USB cord and same result. I see why it only has a 1 year warranty. Either needs a new power converter or whole new MB in the unit. Worked great until it didn't.
Overall Review: I would change the eject button.
Pros: Great looking product.
Cons: Ate every disk I put in it before burning process was completed.
Would get about 35% to 59% and would communicate to the PC that it wasn’t connected.
Overall Review: Not something I would recommend.
Pros: easy to set up
Overall Review: very nice external desktop player, its not too large or too small, easy setup, works perfect with (MakeMKV software) it's a good buy even at retail price, but try to buy with PC/rebate if possible, I recommend this unit
Pros: -Works immediately once plugged in
-Plays Blu-Ray's and DVD's like a charm
-Easy to operate
Cons: -Blue light can get annoying at times
Overall Review: I use this player to watch Blu-Rays from my own Desktop PC. It works exactly how I want it to work and I've had no issues in playback. The blue glowing light can get annoying especially if you're watching things with all the lights turned off, but that's a minor inconvenience.
I use PowerDVD to do playback. You do need a software that plays DVD's/Blu-Rays so keep that in mind when you get this thing. This is JUST for the physical player.
