Pros: This thing handles any game you throw at it. Getting WELL over 75fps on Skyrim Ultra settings at 1920x1080. OCd to a safe 870, 1730, 2060. Doesn't even exceed 50degrees Celsius. HDMI port is a nice feature. Easy installation. Great heatsinking features.
Cons: Huge. Takes up three expansion slots. If you don't have room for it, don't get it. But I had room, so I got this GPU and it rocks.
Pros: When the card behaves then it is great. I run Final Fantasy 14 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed except for Anti-Aliasing which I put on x2.
Cons: I've owned this for over a year now and I finally got around to checking user reviews and I am having the same issues as they are. The card I got artifacted a lot even under normal temps from time to time. Dealing with Asus support has been horrible. I had good things to say about them before my experience but now I don't think it can be recovered (See below)
Overall Review: I sent out my video card to Asus on march 8th via UPS. First off when it gets there Asus never notifies me. I had to do some searching to find that part out. Then it just sits there in 'repair' for 2.5 weeks. Then that status says complete and it sits there for another 1.5 weeks saying 'complete'. Finally out of frustration I call and the representative takes 10 minutes looking to figure out whats going on with my RMA (sign something isn't right) Then they tell me that my card could not be repaired (saw that coming) and that they would swap my card for another. I asked them what they meant and all he told me was "That's for them to determine". So I decided to just wait but then I thought i'd get more answers calling back the next day, wrong. This time the rep actually had to send in a request for a tracking number because it wasn't generated after sitting for week and a half collecting dust. They wouldn't even let me talk to a tech or any one else above them.
For a single card, destroys everything I throw at it.9/19/2011 12:30:24 PM
Pros: Runs at about 31C idle in my Silverstone Ft02
Some broad benchmarks:
About 45 FPS in RIFT maxed out
About 45-50 FPS in Crysis 2 maxed out w/ Dx11+High res pack
About 25 FPS in Metro 2033 maxed out
About 15 FPS in The Witcher 2 maxed out WITH Ubersampling
About 50 FPS in The Witcher 2 maxed out WITHOUT Ubersampling (???)
Straight 60FPS in BFBC2 maxed out
About 140 FPS in Minecraft (Woo)
Can almost run Solitaire
Cons: 2x 560 Ti's would yield about a 15% performance increase at the same price range, I went with the 580 because I heard SLI can be a hassle with compatibility issues.
Overall Review: What is Ubersampling anyway?

Pros: I get very attached to my electronics, and this card has just become my absolute favorite GPU of all time. I ran with Quad-SLI GTX 295s before this, and this card runs my games at the same resolution (1920x1200) at high or very high detail with comparable and even framerates (no microstutter!), plus it is dead silent. It's not just a GTX 580 with a non-reference cooler - this card was designed from the ground up with better circuity and components. It truly is a powerhouse!
I'm actually going to list the size of the card as a pro - nothing says "leet" like a triple-slot super-long graphics card!
For the install I waited for Windows to do the "found new hardware" pop-up and dropped in the CD that came with the card. Windows installed the driver and the card ran flawlessly just like that. A one-minute install - I couldn't believe how easy that was! I didn't install the Asus OC programs though; if I ever need to overclock this card I'll use MSI Afterburner.
Cons: This card is heavy, and - like other cards with this kind of cooler - the PCB can flex a LOT when installed in an upright case. I had to use cable ties on the power cables to suspend that end of the card in order to correct the flexing. Hanging something from its power cables is never good but this will have to do until I can come up with something more clever. Without supporting the front end of this card I would be seriously worried about long-term deformation - seriously, this card dipped about 3/8" as soon as I put it in. Be prepared to support this card in some way. This really isn't a con, but it's an aspect of the card design that may ward off some buyers. Better to know up front; I expected it so it wasn't a big suprise.
Overall Review: Do your homework - It's three slots wide, as anyone can see from the pictures here on the Egg, and it's very long. A Corsair AX750 provides plenty of juice for a system with one of these. Beware as some PSUs are rated for 700w but when you look at the fine print they only have 500-some watts available as 12v power (which isn't enough). At this powerband you'll want a single-rail PSU, and modular is always a good option. Google is your friend.
Due to the size, SLI may not be an option if you have a lot of other expansion cards (sound card, network card, etc).
Bottom line - The Egg is awesome, as always, and if you're in the market for a GTX 580 and have the room to fit it, then this is the card for you. Don't be fooled my the meager factory overclock - that's just to avoid competing with the ROG Matrix 580. This card has massive headroom with its own cooler and holds the world record by a very wide margin for the fastest LN2 overclock ever on a GTX 580. I love it.
Pros: I have read many reviews about the GTX 580 cards and I know them to be beastly cards.
This card delivers maximum cooling and performance.
I was fortunate enough to pick up this card when it was on clearance (Open box item) and paid $305.00 plus $7.95 shipping. Not bad for a $500.00 card. I called ASUS to make sure I would have the full warranty and they assured me I would!!!! How awesome is that?
BTW - Asus Customer service (so far) has been superb. When I called to ask questions about warranty, I was on hold less than 1 minute before speaking directly with a customer service agent!
With 4 of the ASUS GTX 580's a group of guys crushed the 3dMark score (simply crushed it!). Pretty cool to know that the card that is in your system is the card (s) that were used to accomplish that great feat!!!
Cons: The only con that I have is that I have to buy special sata connectors that have a 90 degree angle on them, because the card is so massive!!!!!
And, maybe that I didn't have this card sooner?
Overall Review: Newegg is simply the only place to buy video cards!!!!!!!
WoW, just WoW!
Pros: Fast, quiet, cool. Overclocks like a dream. About the same price as reference cards. I've done 925 stable so far with just Asus Smartdoctor and no modding which I don't plan on doing at all such as custom bios or voltmods. Your mileage may vary though, techpowerup only did 827 with theirs but it seems 900 is closer to the average.
Cons: 3 slots has it's disadvantages obviously. Harder to SLI since you need to choose your motherboard/case wisely. No way I could fit another one of these in my current case and i'd need an SLI motherboard anyway.
Overall Review: If you'll probably never run SLI, like me, get this monster. It's a no brainer if you have the room in your case and you want a quieter, cooler than reference GTX 580.
Pros: VERY Quiet compared to a stock nvidia card.
I've played Crysis Warfare for about 30 minutes now without any crashes - guaranteed the MSI FROZR 580 that I had would have crashed by now (typically within 10 minutes). I have done nothing different with drivers or anything else. I took out he MSI card this morning and put in the DirectCU card and so far it is great. It seems a little smoother in Crysis as well. I didn't actually run any FPS tests but I have my Crysis completely cranked now to enthusiast for EVERYTHING and 16Q and it doesn't seem choppy at all!
It is possible I just got a defective MSI card so I'm not claiming they will all have the issue mine did.
I can plug in one of my monitors using native display port and my TV using a standard HDMI interface so it turns out this was a better choice for me since they cost about the same.
Cons: Not sure these are exactly cons since it is pretty clear this takes 3 slots and the MSI only takes 2. If you are tight on space in your computer this is an issue but other than people doing SLI I can't imagine it will be a big concern for most.
Again, this isn't a big con but I would have prefered 2 display ports and one DVI than 2 DVI outs - but certainly not everyone is going to want that yet - probably in a few years that will be the preferred connection.
Overall Review: I would say sound wise it is about the same level as the MSI FROZR 580 I got last week although they have a slightly different type of sound. I didn't use anything to actually measure it vs. the MSI so I can't say 100% for sure.
I can say that it seems to run about 10 degrees celcius cooler under full load vs. the MSI card using the desktop gadget for nvidia temps.
If you plan on going SLI you would need a different case than mine. My motherboard has enough high bandwidth PCIE slots that I could actually put in a second one of these cards and still have space between them but I would have to put it towards the bottom of my motherboard and since my PSU is below the motherboard in my case it would not fit.
I was going to try the 6970 if I had issues with this card but I can pretty much say this 580GTX card by Asus works like a champ!
Good card, extremely bad ASUS support!12/14/2011 4:53:13 AM
Pros: Good card overall, really fast, able to play everything on Extreme performance.
Cons: ASUS's tech support = extremely bad! If you are lucky to get a card that works great and doesn't require servicing within the warranty period then you're good. I purchased 2 of these cards - one for me and one for my little brother. Unfortunately his card was/is having an issue with the HDMI port, and if it wasn't for the 3D monitor that he has, I would be ok to use DVI. I sent the card 2 times for "servicing" and not only did I receive the card in an inadequate box (the card itself is huge, the box I received it in was the same size with no room for padding at all) but the issue was still there. I specifically told their support that it is only the HDMI that is causing the problem, and not the DVI, but somehow I guess they see it as "working" and send it back. I really don't know what to do at this point besides write this review and warn other potential buyers. Stay away from ASUS's support!
Overall Review: I can only give 3/5 eggs because my card worked just fine.
-2 for their incompetence on attempting to fix the other card's issue.
Overall Review: Overall; amazing.
