Question 1

Should I buy the ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum or the 1000W version?

Accepted Answer

Choose the ROG Strix 1200W Platinum if you are building around an RTX 5090-class GPU, using aggressive CPU or GPU overclocking, or want more upgrade headroom. ASUS lists 1200W or higher for RTX 5090 systems and 1000W or higher for RTX 5080 systems. The 1000W model is the more efficient capacity choice for systems that do not need the additional reserve.

Question 2

Is the ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum better than the Corsair RM1200x SHIFT?

Accepted Answer

The ASUS is the better fit when you want 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency, a native PCIe 5.1 12V-2x6 cable, GPU-focused voltage sensing, and a conventional 160 mm PSU layout. The Corsair RM1200x SHIFT is a practical alternative if your case supports side-mounted PSU connectors and you prefer its cable-access design. Both target high-power gaming PCs, but the ASUS emphasizes newer GPU power delivery and compact chassis compatibility.

Question 3

Should I choose the ROG Strix 1200W Platinum or the older ROG Thor 1200P2?

Accepted Answer

Choose the ROG Strix 1200W Platinum for a newer ATX 3.1 build with a native 12V-2x6 connection, a shorter 160 mm chassis, and lower listed weight. Choose the Thor 1200P2 when its OLED display, RGB integration, additional SATA and peripheral connectors, or bundled sleeved cables are more important. The Thor 1200P2 is longer at 190 mm and is based on an earlier platform generation.

Question 4

Is the ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum enough, or should I move up to a 1600W PSU?

Accepted Answer

The ROG Strix 1200W Platinum is appropriate for a high-end single-GPU gaming PC, including an RTX 5090-class system when the rest of the configuration fits within the power budget. Move to a 1600W model for multiple high-power accelerators, unusually demanding workstation workloads, extensive overclocking, or a build that needs two native 16-pin GPU cables. A 1600W unit provides more capacity but is typically longer and heavier.

Question 5

Is this power supply suitable for a high-end gaming PC or workstation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Its 1200W capacity, single 12V rail rated at 100A, ATX 3.1 compliance, PCIe 5.1 support, and native 12V-2x6 cable make it suitable for high-power graphics cards and demanding gaming or workstation systems. It may be more capacity than necessary for lower-power builds.

Question 6

Does it support modern graphics cards with a 12V-2x6 connector?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The power supply includes one native 12V-2x6 PCIe cable, supports PCIe 5.1, and is compliant with ATX 3.1. It also includes four traditional 6+2-pin PCIe connectors for graphics cards that use conventional power inputs.

Question 7

Is it fully modular, and does it include the cables needed for a typical high-end build?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is fully modular, so unused cables can be left disconnected. The included cable set provides one 24-pin motherboard cable, two 4+4-pin CPU cables, one 12V-2x6 PCIe cable, four 6+2-pin PCIe cables, six SATA power connectors, and three peripheral connectors.

Question 8

Will it fit in a standard ATX case?

Accepted Answer

It uses a standard ATX form factor and measures 160 x 150 x 86 mm. It should fit many ATX cases, but buyers should verify that the case supports a PSU length of at least 160 mm and has enough room for modular cable connections.

Question 9

Is this PSU quiet during normal use and light gaming?

Accepted Answer

It is designed for low-noise operation. The unit has Lambda A+ noise certification below 20 dB and 0dB technology that can allow near-silent operation during light loads. Fan behavior can increase under sustained or heavy system loads.

Question 10

Is the ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum worth buying for a high-end gaming PC?

Accepted Answer

It is best suited to high-power systems using flagship GPUs, such as RTX 5080- or RTX 5090-class builds. Its 1200W capacity, ATX 3.1 compliance, native 12V-2x6 cable, Platinum efficiency, fully modular design, and 10-year warranty are useful for demanding systems. For a midrange PC, the capacity and price may be unnecessary.

Question 11

Is the included 12V-2x6 GPU cable a reason to avoid this PSU?

Accepted Answer

The included cable provides a direct 12V-2x6 connection for compatible GPUs, but some owners have reported loose connector pins, uneven current distribution, or shutdowns during rapid load changes. These are user reports rather than proof of a product-wide defect. Buyers should fully seat and inspect the connector and contact ASUS support if the cable appears loose, damaged, or causes instability.

Question 12

Is this PSU quiet enough for a low-noise gaming PC?

Accepted Answer

The unit is specified with Lambda A+ noise certification, below-20 dB noise levels, and 0dB fan technology for near-silent light loads. Community discussion generally describes it as quiet during operation, although several owners mention a noticeable single relay click when the PC or PSU turns off. That click is different from continuous operating noise.

Question 13

Are the cables easy to manage in a typical PC case?

Accepted Answer

The PSU is fully modular and has a compact 160 mm length, which helps case compatibility and lets users install only needed cables. However, owners have repeatedly described the included cables as difficult to arrange because of their flexible, loose appearance. It is a functional setup, but cable management may require extra routing effort or cable combs.
