Lightning fast much faster than my 3950x 9/8/2020 1:51:20 PM

Pros: 88 PCIe lanes
Crazy fast
Future Proof

Cons: PCIe 3

Overall Review: When it came out I went with the 3900x and when I had a chance moved up to the 3950x both
with PCIe Gen 4 SSD drives. This is much much faster accessing the drives even being Gen3
My RTX2080 still plays everything at ultra settings and the load times are much quicker

So darn fast 8/26/2020 8:33:54 AM

Pros: This processor (with 64GB of RAM) can process data in Tableau Prep like a BOSS. What took my Core i7 8th gen 30-60 minutes to do, this thing will do in SECONDS. Might be steep in price, but that is money well spent in time saved. They should call this thing the Productivity Increaser instead of Threadripper. Threadripper does sound pretty cool though. Seriously, it is worth every penny.

Cons: None. Not even price.

Overall Review: Would I recommend? Abso-freakin-lutely.
Would I purchase again? Heck yes.
Something about it I could change? I do not think so. Maybe a spinning Intel logo that either blows up or burns into a crisp when booting? That would be cool. And apt.

Fast with room to spare 7/29/2020 1:13:59 PM

Pros: - Fast and efficient cores
- Runs pretty cool in general
- Great for my use case: code compilation and running containers

Cons: - Price mainly.

Overall Review: Not much to say that you can't get from a review site. This thing makes my development system scream with NVMe and ample RAM.

Very powerful! 7/18/2020 7:39:13 PM

Pros: - 24 zen2 cores and 48 threads, very powerful.
- Fast in games, fast in productivity tasks.
- Works well with 128 GB (4x 32 GB) DDR4 3600 kit from Corsair, after SOC voltage tweak

Cons: - The worst performance-per-watt of the Threadripper 3rd gen lineup by design
- Expensive entry price

Overall Review: Powerful processor, uses a ton of power for the amount of cores and lithography compared to the rest of the lineup. Performs well across a variety of applications unlike previous generations. I upgraded from 2nd gen TR 2950X and saw double the performance in multi-thread apps, and significantly higher minimum frame rates in games.

This thing is nuts. 6/18/2020 6:05:13 PM

Pros: -Power on power on power
-Multi core workload monster
-handles renders and working in other programs concurrently with ease
-while this an absolute workhorse of a workstation CPU, it games fairly well too. It isn't the best CPU for gaming but it more than gets the job done.
- expandable
-PCI-4 and quad channel memory

Cons: -heat. a 280watt CPU is tough to keep cool. I disabled the precision boost as the heat jumps so drastically with it enabled. This may be due to using an AIO. I use a kraken x72 as it has the adapter for this socket. The corsair H110 platinum requires you to buy a separate adapter so avoid that. Honestly go use the noctua 140mm cooler for this as it has a heat sink that covers the entirety of the processor. The AIO options do not cover the whole thing, with the exception of a few that dont seem to be reliable.
With the X72, my idle temps are 38 - 41 degrees celsius. Under average web browsing and gaming it will sit around 60 degrees. Not bad at all but under full load, say during a render or stress test it will get up to 83 degrees in 15 minutes. It continues to slowly climb and will eventually throttle. The throttle happens for two seconds and the temp plummets and start the slow climb again. Whenever this has happened to me it throttles to 3.1ghz on all cores for a few seconds and the heat drops to about 60-65 degrees and begins its slow crawl again. The throttle takes maybe 30 minutes to occur.

If using any water cooling/ AIO make sure to test some temps in either push or pull and push and pull. My x72 really benefits from a push pull config especially in slowing that temperature crawl as you get to 75+ degrees.

Overall Review: Coming from an overclocked i7 3770k this is a massive upgrade. I work with several different programs and can now do so concurrently. I am using this with 64gb of RAM and run blender, unreal engine, photoshop, premiere pro as well as quixle bridge and quixel mixer. I am able to render out a scene while still working in another program with no hiccup whatsoever. There is so much processing power underneath the hood of this thing. I catch myself looking at my computer a lot in awe of how stupid powerful this is.

If you can manage the heat, keep the precision boost enabled as it does provide some impressive jumps in clock speed.

These threadripper chips are crazy powerful and after seeing it perform over the last 6 months, they really are at the top of the food chain right now. It will game very well and outwork everything else.

Literraly Rips through renders 6/17/2020 9:38:48 AM

Pros: Super Fast render times

Cons: Gets very hot and feels like a space heater at times

Overall Review: My old PC had an i7 6700K processor. I would render an image at 2k full screen and it would take around 45mins to an hour. With this processor, the speed is reduced to 1 to 2 mins.

Power at a price that beats Intel 6/12/2020 4:25:40 PM

Pros: Dropped right in and worked from the start on my ASUS Prim TRX40-PRO S. So far no issues.

Cons: Price is better than Intel but still a little steep. Wish I could have gotten the 3970 but it was too much money.

Overall Review: Great
