If you can find it, buy it. 1/19/2020 8:41:10 PM

Pros: It is amazingly fast.

Cons: None

Overall Review: TLDR: If you can afford it and actually use the cores but don't need the core count or PCIE lanes of Threadripper then this will serve you well. I have had Ryzen since day one. Upgrading from Ryzen 7 1700 to this was easy since I could drop it into my current motherboard which was already on the latest bios for Ryzen 3000. I have had no issues at stock or PBO. Simply the best mainstream CPU you can buy.

Clock Speeds:
My CPU will occasionally boost to 4.7Ghz when gaming but mostly sticks between 4.3-4.6Ghz. When rendering videos in Davinci resolve the cores that are being loaded are running at 4.1-4.2Ghz. The CPU is only at 50-60% load with my rendering workload so the cores are running rather quick and the voltage is slightly above 1.3v. When rendering videos in resolve I get about 75c on a Noctua NH-D15S with the fans at 1,000RPM. When running Cinebench the cores were at 3.9Ghz and when I did a prime95 test they were at 3.4Ghz (likely due to the AVX workload). Generally the higher the load the lower the voltage and temps. When running the prime95 load it was down to 64c with voltage just under 1v.

RAM:
I have 32GB of DDR4 3000Mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM. With my Ryzen 7 1700 I set the DOCP (XMP) profile and it ran no problem. Trying for 3200MHz on my Ryzen 7 1700 would cause a crash after a while on a hard load. With my Ryzen 9 3950x I was able to keep all the DOCP (XMP) settings that came with the ram and simply set it to 3200Mhz and it has run with no issues. I'm sure I could push it harder with manually timings and whatnot but I care more about stability and have never had much luck overclocking...anything.

Gaming:
It is the fastest Ryzen 3000 CPU you can buy. While hopefully no one buys this solely for gaming, it gets the job done very well in the games I have played. It has made my city simulation speed in cities skylines quick again. I play other games but they are old and I generally run V-Sync or some other capped framerate so it serves me well enough.

Streaming/Recording:
I record gameplay videos from my Xbox One X at 4K with the Aver Media Live Gamer 4K. Recording settings are as follows: 4K 60fps with the YUY2 Decode format, 10Bit, Expanded Colors (0-255), H.264, 240Mbps (240,000Kbps) and it is locked 60 the entire time. When streaming I use OBS 1080p60, Slow Preset, 9000Kpbs to YouTube. Never drops a frame. I can even render videos out in Davinci Resolve and Record at the same time and not max it out with the settings I use.

You really shouldn't have any regrets buying this CPU unless you absolutely cannot find a way to utilize it with your workload or you only game. If you only game you should probably buy a Ryzen 5 3600/Ryzen 7 3700x.

Motherboard was an ASUS Prime B350 Plus bought in 2017 so if you are upgrading from a previous generation Ryzen CPU you can plop it right in assuming your motherboard has the right bios.

The New Performance King 1/15/2020 11:57:16 AM

Pros: This Processor is spectacular in every way possible. Intel just can't compete right now outside of gaming and even in gaming the margins they win by isn't compelling enough to sacrifice performance in every other aspect.

Thank you AMD, great work

Goodbye Intel...

Cons: Absolutely nothing

Overall Review: Great for Video editing, Games and 3D productivity. Highly recommended.

Extremely good. 1/8/2020 2:44:10 AM

Pros: - Productivity to the Nth degree.
- Very low power usage.
- High IPC even with 32 threads.
- Runs cool, draws at most 25w idle.

Overall Review: Extraordinarily good processor, beats any counterparts at this price range. I recommend this to any power user. I've been able to realtime OBS encode on the veryslow preset at 4k with a VBR of 10,000.

FCLK overclocks well with good Mobo and RAM

Cons: Out the box voltage is crazy high on Auto.

Overall Review: CPU-Z ST 555, MT 12128

Cinebech R15 score: 4625
3DMark CPU score: 16482 @4.4Ghz / 3800Mhz DDR

Very good CPU 1/3/2020 1:49:12 PM

Pros: - Boosts itself up to 4.675 GHz on one core, 4.05 GHz across all cores out of the box.
- Can be adjusted to run 10 C cooler than stock without losing performance.

Cons: - Stock voltage is too high, and as a result runs a bit hot (went as high as 89 C). Fortunately this is adjustable via BIOS and AMD's Ryzen Master software (made it go down to 71 C with the same performance).
- AMD's boost (which is enabled by default) is weird. CPU temp kept spiking by 10 degrees Celsius every couple of seconds while idling. Turning off boost fixed the problem. I've never ran into this issue with Intel chips.

Overall Review: I expect drivers and default settings to get better over time. As it stands right now, it's a definitely excellent CPU for anyone that's willing to tweak it a bit to get the most out of it.
