The ADATA LEGEND 960 is a 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD with DRAM cache and sequential speeds up to 7,400 MB/s read and 6,800 MB/s write, suited to PC users upgrading for fast gaming, apps, and everyday storage.
Recommended For
- PS5 owners expanding internal game storage who want a PCIe 4.0 drive that reviewers have tested in the console; check the installed heatsink’s fit and clearance before installation.
- PC gamers upgrading a Gen4 desktop or laptop drive for an operating system, applications, and game installs; PCWorld found strong benchmark results and fast real-world 48GB file transfers.
- Creators and other PC users who regularly open projects or move moderate-sized folders and want fast everyday file access; PCWorld’s 48GB transfer test showed strong results.
- Laptop owners replacing an M.2 2280 drive who need a single-sided 1TB SSD; PCWorld notes the 1TB version’s single-sided design can suit slim devices, subject to the laptop’s interface and clearance requirements.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- When a PS5 owner runs short on built-in space, they can install the LEGEND 960 in the console’s M.2 slot and keep more compatible games installed and ready to play. Reviews found it works as expanded PS5 storage, with game loading behaving as expected for a fast Gen4 SSD.
- When a PS5 player moves a large game between console storage and the LEGEND 960, testing found transfers could complete quickly—for example, TechRadar copied a roughly 100 GB game in about 79 seconds. Actual times vary with the game and console conditions.
- For a gaming PC, the LEGEND 960 can serve as the drive for a game library, helping games and levels load from fast NVMe storage. Its benchmark performance is strong, though reviews suggest everyday gameplay and loading are not necessarily distinguishable from other capable PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
- For creative work on a compatible desktop or laptop, it can hold project files and speed up routine asset loading and file transfers. It is a practical fit for regular creative workflows, but a 1TB drive may slow during exceptionally long, continuous writes such as dumping hundreds of gigabytes at once.
- In a compatible PC, users can install the operating system and frequently used applications on the LEGEND 960 for a responsive everyday storage setup. The benefit depends on the rest of the system and is most relevant when upgrading from slower storage; it does not guarantee faster performance in every task.
