Pros: Small, good price, QUALITY BUILD, flexible
Cons: Not all SSDs will work ! Do a search on this... Samsung EVO 860 do seem to be accepted (we used the MZ-76E500 / 500GB version w/o issue)
Overall Review: VERY, VERY good price/performance! Quality chassis design and solid chassis build. Very good BIOS. Impressed with what HP has in its server line these days.
Overall Review: This server is running 24/7 - just added an SSD disk. Primary use is as VPN server - it has 4 gigabit Ethernet ports in the back, allows flexible network combinations. The speed is decent, much better than any off the shelf router I used before. Temperature: It's located inside a closed room where my furnace & water heater are and is running under 50C most of the time. Overall I am really happy, specially that is half the size of my previous box.
Pros: Runs latest vSphere/ESX 7.0.2 using Generic installer image. Dont use HPE customized installer image as it crashed near setup menu and was never able to install. Lots of drive bays (4 total) nice compared to my NUCs. I used for my storage node 2 SSDs and 2 fast ssd/tradition hybrid drives.
Cons: Wish it supported 64GB ram like my NUCs More cores would also be great, but main purpose is for chassis with 4 drive bays.
Overall Review: Very much like this as it adds to my home lab of many NUCs, RPI, desktop, servers. Was debating getting another NUC g10 with 64GB ram but choose this for the drive bays. Happy so far and runs well. Used as a tester ESX server but not expecting to get a lot of VMs due to 4 logical cores (unlike my NUC i7 having many more and has 64GB ram). Great chassis design easy to open up and service. Note: Watch you dont disconnect the front side motherboard cable when pulling out the MB happened to me but caught it quickly on inspection before closing the case. Seems it does not clip super tight. Unit is very quiet compared to my NUCs and so far much less in heat output. Purchased 2.5 to 3.5 drive adapter for my SSDs worked fine. Will buy another in the future when a version is offered with more cores and ram capacity.
Pros: (1) FreeBSD 12.2 can run on this machine, albeit with a few unsupported hardware components that I haven't missed in four months of running it. This device's listing on http://bsd-hardware.info/ was accurate. (2) Price! (3) Four gigabit NICs, all working under FreeBSD. (4) Low-power, though I haven't measured it. On paper it's half the idle power as a similarly-spec'd machine I've used as a workstation.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: I've been recommending this to all my IT colleagues. It's similarly-price to higher-end Intel NUCs, but is expandable, with a Xeon processor, and four NICs! It's served well as a Zeek sensor these last few months, and I'm planning to run virtual servers off of the two free interfaces.
Pros: Very quiet, especially for a server. Gave nearly a year of non-stop service.
Cons: Do not purchase for home businesses or home use. HPE does not want to honor their warranty if parts need to be shipped to a residential address.
Overall Review: Do not recommend to human beings, only to corporations. After nearly a year of service, the system board died and took BOTH RAID drives with it. No matter how high quality of electronics, that's a possibility and I understand that. I don't blame HPE for the disaster. I'm sure it wasn't something they planned. I don't rate companies based on if their stuff has normal problems. I do rate them on how they deal with those problems and well, this isn't a way to handle it. I was told I needed to either provide a "corporate" address (apparently I can't have it shipped to an LLC, or single proprietorship address) or provide the receipt (does anyone who buys a server actually get a paper receipt and if they do, are there many corporations that keep paper receipts past the tax year?) as well as photographic proof of the serial number. Now I get to wait through the weekend while they "evaluate" my submission. Prior to their discovery that it was a home address, it was about to ship.
Pros: good price
Overall Review: Great
Pros: Flexible for multiple purposes
Cons: Limited PCI Slots
Overall Review: Would Buy again if need a simple server or SMART NAS!
Pros: - Use all the same management and update tools as it's big brothers in the data center- HP build quality- Quiet- ILO
Cons: - 32GB limit (officially -- some say 64GB is possible)- all documentation is on-line, but to their credit is easy to navigate- onboard RAID supports Window only
Overall Review: I bought this to run ESXi 7 at home, supporting a handful of small VMs. Installing ESXi to a USB stick for boot was pretty easy, and everything just worked out of the box.
