2 out of 5 eggsLooks nice - that's about it

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Looks the part of a HTPC. Doesn't clash with the decor.

Cons: This case is of very poor build quality, and had to replace the power supply to allow for an NVidia GTX-560. Fans are loud. Worst of all, you better be sure of where you want to put your expansion cards.

5 out of 5 eggsApevia 500 ATX HTPC case

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Nice little case... I moved my everyday ATX setup to this smaller case to save space. The case arrived promptly and I moved my mobo, cards, hard drive and optical drive and, AFTER I found and turned on the psu, came up cool and quiet (it was noisy in my old mid tower).

Cons: Nothing major... hard drive a little tricky to get in. PSU on/off switch not easy to spot.

Other Thoughts: Reading the reviews, I almost thought the psu was bad... until I found the on/off switch and switched it on.

4 out of 5 eggsGood HTPC case

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: This case can handle an ATX motherboard and full size video cards.

Cons: It only has one place (dedicated) to install a hard drive. If you have two physical drives, like I do, you have to use the 2.5" bay where a media card reader would usually go.

Manufacturer Response:

Aside from the "dedicated" hard drive bay and external 3.5" bay, you can also install a drive on either (or both) fan grills on each side if you're not using a fan in those spots.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Um... it comes with rubber feet... that's about it.

Cons: 1. The PSU died after three weeks.
2. The sides of the case were dented.
3. I found the plastic pegs holding on the front panel to be broken upon opening the box. I had to tape it on.
4. Cheap construction. I bought this case because I thought it looked sturdy but it is anything but.
5. The face for the optical drive doesn't fit with the drive I bought for my HTPC (LG UH12NS29), so I had to remove it.

I will be RMAing this.

Other Thoughts: Spend the extra cash for a decent case.

1 out of 5 eggsmissing front audio cable?

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

4 out of 5 eggsFinal Tally

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Supports:
ATX & mATX Boards
Full Sized Power Supplies
2 Optical Drives, 2 Hard drives (3 if you use the floppy slot)
One of the most Roomy Media Center cases you will find.

Cons: Sharp Edges! Will slice your fingers if you are not careful.
Blue Power LED is Bright
Red HD LED is so Dim, you can barely even see it even in the dark.
Headphone Jack is tight, that even with every component in the case, to keep the case from sliding back, you have to hold the case down to plug headphones in.
Sub Standard Power Supply included. Use at own risk.

Other Thoughts: Video Cards must not be taller than the back plate, or case cover will, not close.

Cards must not be longer than 6.5 inches. This varies depending on the physical size of the power supply.

Video cards with power plugs on the top edge of the card are not compatible with this case. All Power plugs must be at the rear of card to ensure to cover of case closes.

Example of Video card with Incompatible Power Plug:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121630

Example of card with Incompatible height:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127521

Manufacturer Response:

The X-Master actually has three spots for hard drives (four if you count the external floppy drive bay). In addition to the obvious spot next to the drive bays, you can also mount a hard drive to either or both of the fan grills if you decide not to use them for cooling purposes. As for the video card, depending upon your power supply it can accommodate up to 9.5" in length.

5 out of 5 eggsgood

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Bought it over a year ago and it's pretty nice. Its full sized, holding 2 graphic cards and a full sized board.

Cons: Has overheating issues. very hard to push air around in this case. I ended up being forced to buy water cooling to keep the CPU cool (4 core AMD, 3.5ghz). The bluray drive i have is to long and covers up 2 of the 4 ram slots. The PSU has cables that just get in the way of everything. I wish the case was 1 inch longer in every direction because right now it is to tight. I ended up breaking 3 Sata connections on the bored because it was so tight getting everything to fit. I also had to cut a whole in the top of the case for an extra fan. i had smaller 430 graphic cards at first, but when i upgraded to a 650TI card, there is no room. the card touches the PSU now, so no air flow anymore. It's just time for me to upgrade.

Other Thoughts: It's a really nice case, but keep in mind that the case is a hair small. you really shouldn't expect to get fullsized graphic cards in here and still have air flow. good for basic use, but if u are worried about air flow, get a regular case.

It's my own fault tho, and the case is really nice, no reason to remove any stars.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a HTPC

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Looks great along with other HT components. No need to modify the case for any of my existing PC components, power supply is more than enough for a basic to intermediate gaming setup.

Cons: The case is a bit restrictive, so components have to be installed in order, otherwise you won't have room to run cables or organize PC components and have to take it back apart.

Other Thoughts: I was able to fit an ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80557E6750 with stock heatsink running on G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI and CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048 for a total of 6GB ram. Also the SAPPHIRE 100185L Radeon X1950XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support VIVO HDCP Video Card fit perfectly, although it was milimeters away from the power supply, so I had to connect the Video card power connector before I actually installed it in on the motherboard. The ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model DRW-2014L1T LightScribe Support burner fit perfectly and the case button alligned right with the eject button and the eject tray also worked without any modification. I also was able to barely install an APEVIA CF12SL-UBL 120mm Blue LED Case Fan as an intake fan since it doesn't have any. The computer remains cool and the CPU at around 47ºC when gaming, (about 120ºF). I would recommend this as a basic to intermediate gaming HTPC.

4 out of 5 eggsPower Supply & case issues

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Silver SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-AL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Good looking case and good unit for the price.

Cons: Would be nice if the case could be purchaed minus the power supply or furnished with a full modular case. Stuffing all of the unused cable is a nightmare. I plan to replace with a full modular PS.

Other Thoughts: Also, suggest eliminating the CD/dvd door trap and just place your CD/DVD where it will be flush with the case front.
