4 out of 5 eggsBetter than the KR1, but it could be better

Pros: They are still supporting this router with firmware updates.

Has a lot of self-healing abilities in terms of 3G connectivity. Auto re-connect, re-boot, etc if it has a problem.

Cons: 802.11G coverage seems a bit spotty. I haven't tried 802.11N yet. My WRT54G had a lot better coverage. My signal is Low even 30 feet away.

It doesn't have gigabit ethernet. To me this would be very important if I actually moved to 802.11N. Why do that if you're capped at 100Mbit?

Other Thoughts: I had my KR1 for a month and Kyocera had already abandoned the product for the KR2. The KR2 is basically a MBR1000 and they've already abandoned that.

I'm glad I went with the source instead of buying another Kyocera product.

I live in a rural area and 3g is my only choice for acceptable broadband. Its not perfect, as I'm about 7 miles from the nearest tower. I usually get about a 50% signal at my house and have tried all sorts of antennas and aluminum foil DIY ones. Finally I settled on a metal colander I tacked on my wall using a nail that sits over the modem on the wall. I have had a constant 75% signal ever since. Too bad I didn't figure that out before I dropped $50 on an omni directional one.

3 out of 5 eggsnice features

Pros: works great with verizon MiFi. had OpenDNS settings built is to synch with your account, easly progamable, didnt have to set anything for the mifi to connect. on my old G laptop i get 3 bars 85 feet away.

Cons: only 150mb N, no gigbit nics, with expansion port and usb it should inlcude media sharing. maybe it will be added on next firmware.

Other Thoughts: out the box it had a firm ware upgrade, only you enter your email setting it notify you of upgrade and log files.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best router you can buy!

Pros: Takes any internet service out there. 3G/4G, cable, any flavor DSL. Easy to use. Great tech support

Cons: None that I've found in 2 years of use. I was replacing linksys products every year

Other Thoughts: This is the best router I have come across. Easy to setup, easy to make changes.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

Pros: It was very easy to setup, I plugged in my Verizon USB card, turned the cradlepoint on and there it was waiting to be connected to. Windows 7 tried to setup the router but failed so I connected to the routers IP address and set it up. It was easier than I thought.

+ Easy to setup
+ Plug and play after setup

Cons: I think I read somewhere that someone got like 4mbps from their datacard but I haven't experienced that yet.

Other Thoughts: Speedtest.net speeds are... 1.23mbps down and .43 up

5 out of 5 eggsNice router

Pros: Very nice router with a lot of functions and features for such a specialized router. There is a landing screen that helps troubleshoot when the air card disconnects telling you that the router is there but no internet connectivity.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Some problems with the air card connection being dropped but that I am sure is the air card not the router

2 out of 5 eggsMBR1000 is a disapointment

Pros: The interface is nice and has all the features you would expect and more. East to configure and if you have a card that is supported (don't trust the cradlepoint website) setup is a snap. The price was excellent.

Cons: I received this device with the latest firmware installed which is usually a good thing but not in this case. Some issue with the new firmware not being able to negotiate a connection with AT&T USBConnect Lightning. Their website specifically indicates the two devices work together, THEY DO NOT AT THIS TIME!

Other Thoughts: This product would be great if it worked as described. It was purchased specifically for an event at a location where civilians cannot access the local network. After researching all available information and spending 3+ hours getting the service plan setup with AT&T I come to find the USBConnect Lightning will not work with this device until some later date. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DEVICE IF YOU ARE USING THE USBCONNECT LIGHTNING!

4 out of 5 eggsgood gadget

Pros: The price being offered today is less than half of what I paid for it in May 2009. What a deal! I'm not complaining, tho. It's worked very well for me.
Firmware updates appear now and then and are easy to do.
I turned down the power on the wifi as low as it will go and still get plenty of signal throughout the house.
Pretty good help section available thru the browser.

Cons: My Kyrocea 680 modem drops out now and then and often times I'll have to reboot the router to get it back. Just disconnecting and reconnecting the modem (via browser, not hardware) rarely worked and I quit trying after a while. Almost never loses the LAN connection. Maybe once or twice so far.
Help section is all on it's own page. Would be nice to have small help sections on the same page as the choices your making.

Other Thoughts: I get my signal from Verizon Wireless, which has a 5 GB per month limit on usage. Verizon also can't seem to keep an accurate and current count of their customers' usage, which can and does lead to overuse charges of $0.05 per MB. Ouch. It appears this router can count the bits flowing thru the modem in real time but it can't log that info or accumulate monthly totals. That's one feature I'd really like - me and a bunch of other folks who'd rather not rely on Verizon's lackadaisical approach to tracking their usage. Look around on Verizon's wireless broadband forums to see the complaints. C'mon Cradlepoint, you can do it. Put it in your next update. Please.

5 out of 5 eggscradlepoint is rock solid

Pros: I've had an MBR 1000 going on 2 years. Rock solid. At any one time we have 3 PCs talking to it using wireless N and G and even thru ethernet. I have a verizon USB to talk to the cell tower and get 1.2 mb /second.

Cons: Verizon has a 5 GB limit per month. That is very annoying and I've gone over that twice. Monitoring Verizon bandwidth usage every day gets old. That's not cradlepoints fault. Pick Cricket or some 3G that does not have a limit.

Other Thoughts: This is the only router I know if that can use a 3G card and/or a wire internet connection like DSL. It's a good investment and microcode is updateable.

3 out of 5 eggsMBR1000

Pros: multiple internet connections (USB (2), ExpressCard/34 and wired wan.

Load balancing

Cons: not working well with wimax due to WI-FI interference.

Other Thoughts: I got full bars with clear usb wimax modem but speed consistently only up to .9 Mb/s. manually selected channel 1 and 2 as suggested by Cradlepoint but not doing any good. Turned off the WI-FI section, my speed right now consistently at 7 Mb/s

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this product (MBR-1000)

Pros: Two USB connections for load balancing, wireless 'N', active WAN backup with failover to Verizon/Sprint/AT&T network should cable or DSL go down (all this if it works at all).

Cons: No after warranty technical support - tech support recommends you buy a new unit with no options to repair the unit. Why would I spend $200 for something with limited or minimum support? I suggest avoiding this product if any alternative option is available.
