4 out of 5 eggsLove the x41's

Pros: Great sound quality. The best Ive heard in a headset for a game system. (Ill admit I havent tried many) They do a good job mimicking 7.1 surround sound. No hiss or pops from my experience. Theyre very comfortable. For me they add a new dimension I was missing in my gaming.

Cons: Battery life is not that good. I use rechargeables and theyll last a few hours on average. (6-10? depending on volume) The bass boost feature is a must. Without it they sound trebbley.(new word) With bass boost they sound good, but not bass booming. Also on my set at least, the volume all the way up really isnt that loud. Its plenty loud, just not ear bleeding like I like sometimes. lol

Other Thoughts: I bought the x-41's after much research. I elected to skip the newest version (black ones, cant remember the model) of these from TB. I owned X-31s for the last 3 years or so. I LOVED them and they worked flawlessly. I just wanted to upgrade to surround sound type headset. I play MW3 a lot and for me, hearing footsteps is a huge advantage. With the x-31s I could hear them comming, but could place where exactly they were coming from. The x-41s do a better job of placing sounds for me and help greatly. I know this obviously isnt true surround sound, but the did a good job mimicking it! The only gripes as stated, are that I have to play with the volume all the way up to achieve the loudness I want. All the way up, they are adequate. But on some quieter games I feel I might need to turn them up a tad more and cant. Dont let that stop you though. Unless you have hearing issues I wouldnt worry about it. The only other potential gripe would be the bass. Adequate, but not jarring. Love em!

3 out of 5 eggs*Crackle, crackle*

Pros: Wireless

Cons: Crackles
Little bass, even with bass boost

Other Thoughts: I bought these for myself as a Christmas present from my girlfriend *hehe*. I got them home and was stoked. However, after a few hours the excitement wore off and I began to notice the prominent snap-crackle-pop. I sit about 4ft from my router and I certainly wasn't about to move my entire operation for these. Also, this was my first pair of surround headphones and, honesty, I could hardly tell the difference between these and my P11s. Also, even with the bass boost, the bass was hardly better than the P11s, so I took them back the next day, bought a new video card for my PC, and now I am a PC gamer! I am now waiting on a pair of Creative Sound blasters 3D tactic something-or-others. In conclusion, these are old technology and there are many better options available for cheaper(well, at least for PC gaming).

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Very easy to set up. Comes with an optical audio cable. Sound field is outstanding. Can be used with any device that has optical audio or RCA output. So far, I've used these with Skyrim, Batman Arkham Asylum, Halo Reach, and Halo CE Anniversary and I really enjoy the depth of the sound field, particularly the ambient noises that can make or break the immersion. Since I can hook them up to the optical audio out port on my tv, I have used them to watch football and hockey and once again, the sound is phenomenal.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Definitely get some AAA rechargeable batteries. I have only noticed interference when I walk away from the base. Since I sit within 10 ft of the base when playing, this isn't an issue. I have walked into another room without getting any interference, so conditions vary.

It has been noted that WiFi routers can cause some interference with these. I have used these while watching shows on NetFlix. I have a wireless router and two wireless client bridges with DD-WRT. My XBox is currently sitting directly between the router and one of the bridges (it's hooked up to the bridge with an Ethernet cable along with the TV and Blu-Ray player). I have not had any problems at all with interference from these devices.

5 out of 5 eggsNice heatset

Pros: Haven't gotten mine yet, but have used a friends.
I'm not sure about all this interference I'm reading about, or hissing noises, but I've had none of this.

Cons: Eats more batteries than a battery recycling center.

1 out of 5 eggs2 speakers can not produce 7.1

Pros: wireless

Cons: understand other thoughts
the hiss, probably will only affect people who have not destroyed their ears
interference from using IR instead of radio

Other Thoughts: I decided to learn how the speakers work. The head phones contain only one earpiece per ear. Ordinarily they could not produce surround sound without Dolby digital hype. Basically what goes on is that the headphones rely on emitting sounds that come from different locations at different times and volumes. Unfortunately it is IMPOSSIBLE TO SIMULATE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AHEAD OF YOU FROM BEHIND YOU AND ABOVE YOU FROM UNDER YOU. You will have to rely on pure inference to determine if the foot steps that play at the same time are in front/behind/above/under you. The technology employed will never be able to achieve these effects and turtle beach will never be able to achieve these effects because they will only put two speakers in a 40-cent-to manufacture headset. I think I will send it back and buy a headset that has more than 2 speakers. Also, Xbox contains the same software and you could plug any tiny earpieces in and achieve the same effect as these.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound but problems arise

Pros: GREAT sound. I have used these while playing Skyrim and I feel that I am immersed in the sound. While playing Skyrim and first person shooters I can easily hear exactly where sounds come from e.g. behind or to the right/left.

Wireless is nice

Detachable microphone

VERY comfortable during long gaming (I have played Skyrim for hours upon hours with no problem).

Cons: When my girlfriend is using the wireless internet the headphones seem to pop and crackle A LOT, and the sound will cut out for maybe a second from time to time . I am guessing it is just interference. My Router sits only about 5 feet from the headphone base.

Kind of uncomfortable while wearing glasses but that happens with most headphones.

Other Thoughts: When the sound is actually streaming through it is very high quality but when the popping and crackling starts it can get very annoying.

4 out of 5 eggsBest thing since Sliced Bread

Pros: Dont have to yell into a mic for people to hear me
Surround Sound
Like haveing noise canceling, but not
Stand is kinda handy

Cons: Volume control is difficult between different games
Still have a mic cord to plug into the controller
Wireless - Get static after 15ft so cant really walk away with them on - and because of the mic cord cant talk without a controller in your hand
Eats batteries like no other (the reason it got 4 eggs) - get rechargables (charger and 2 AAA and 2 AA batteries for $10 at walmart)

Other Thoughts: All in all the best thing I have ever done for playing my games, now my wife wont hear me yell...usually.
Surrond Sound works flawlessly
Wireless...but again....Wireless

3 out of 5 eggsX41's? Ehh... they're alright.

Pros: Easy to set up, light weight and feel great on the head. I've worn them for a few hours at a time with no discomfort.

Cons: I'm getting the dreaded 'popping and crackling' with this headset. Not sure if the 360 causes any interference but my router is approx. 25' away from the transmitter and in another room so I would hope that the transmitter isn't THAT sensitive. The batteries are fresh Duracell's so that shouldn't be the culprit.

I'm seriously disappointed with the X41,

I picked them up a week after getting the X12's during Black Friday. I thought to myself "hey, the X12's are pretty dang awesome, surely the wireless X41's w/ 7.1 Dolby would be THAT much better!" boy was I wrong. I'm glad that I haven't sold my X12's yet. The bass, the clarity, and 'surround' sound effect IMO is WAY better with the X12's. That shouldn't be the case if they both use the same 50mm speakers? I don't notice a huge difference when enabling the 'bass boost' on the X41's either. When bass boost us turned up on the X12's, the sound is incredible.

Other Thoughts: I'll probably swap out the optical cable and find a way to test the mic line to eliminate them as being the cause of the pops and crackles but it's pretty ridiculous to even have to deal with that after paying $140 for a headset... it should be PnP and sound wonderful out of the box. I wouldn't be so harsh with a review as sometimes things happen but given the # of previous reviews with similar issues... I feel that Turtle Beach really dropped the ball on this headset and have no desire to admit/rectify the problem and continue to rack in profits from them.

Perhaps I received a lemon with these X41's and will be in touch with NewEgg to see about an exchange... I really wish a refund was possible instead and I would just stick with the wired X12's.
