5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps my computer very cool and I leave it on a lot, almost 24/7

Cons: It is very very very big. Might consider measuring it because mine pushes my case a bit and i had to bend a little bit of the case to get it to fit

5 out of 5 eggsOverly Impressed

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: *Huge double towers with well spaced fins. Entire packaging and component set feels premium quality.
*Aesthetically pleasing, looks great in my case.
*The two included fans are high quality, and the cable shielding feels sturdy while remaining flexible.
*Cooling performance is exemplary.
*Easy to find on discount. Noctua-level cooling at 3/4 the cost.

Cons: *Mounting onto the CPU can be challenging. It took three attempts to correctly seat and requires a second pair of hands to attach. Doing this by yourself would be a challenge.
*As usual with towers this large, it's heavy on the mobo. Make sure you're thorough with tightening down bracket and motherboard case screws or this could be a problem down the road.

Other Thoughts: I initially bought this as an alternative to the Noctua DH-15 since it was significantly cheaper, and boy am I glad I did. i7-4790k at 4.7Ghz. Idles around 30C in ambient of 23, and runs 67-72C under full load. Never surpasses 75C in stress testing on a 700Mhz overclock.

Phanteks has gained a new long term customer.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Tier Air Cooler

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: *Color Customization
*Very Large U Shaped Heat Dissipation Fans
*Comes with two quality 140mm fans, supports three
*Heatsink paste is top tier

Cons: *Freaking Gigantic
*Contact surface had some slight scratches in the nickel plating that showed the copper underneath
*Fairly expensive

Other Thoughts: Got this cooler for my i5-4690k as I don't feel comfortable with liquid. Currently running at 4.4ghz with temps staying around 60c. This cooler is absolutely huge. The fans can be adjusted height wise but the heat fins actually cover up to the second ram slot. I had to remove the heat fins from my G. Skill Trident X because of the pressure it was placing on the stick in the second slot. If you don't want to go with an H100i or custom loop, I'd place this on the same tier as the Noctua D14. Overall I'm happy with my purchase at $55 with MIR.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Amazing piece of hardware with a beautiful aesthetic.
The packaging is quiet pleasing to unbox and comes with plenty of screws and require parts for all sockets.

As for the performance, the fans are extremely quiet at silent to normal RPM, at max it's loud but not annoying.

During gaming load, it keeps my stock 5820K running very cool with the max temp being 45c even with my 290 crossfire setup blowing hot hair back in my case.

Installation is very simple on X99, though you will have to be delicate while screwing down the middle plate on to the cooler to avoid damaging the fins.

Cons: None, except I'm wondering where the version that ships with 3 fans went since this cooler has the capacity to hold the maximum of 3 fans.

Other Thoughts: Rebate process is pretty simple, just have to follow the instruction on the MIR form. Hopefully it gets process which would make this cooler the best price to performance Air Cooler on the market.

4 out of 5 eggsWell Done Phanteks

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: - The pictures don't do it justice. It is a very good looking cooler. I purchased the blue version and love that it goes well with my Define R5 and other blue accessories.

- The bracket isn't as difficult to install as some people say. It by no means is super easy but it's pretty straight forward and takes about half an hour with a normal sized screwdriver.

- Lowered my temps from 67C on an aging Corsair H60 to 50C at 100% fan speed for each cooler. That's an impressive drop. Very satisfied with the cooling performance on an OCd 2500k.

Cons: - To gain 5 stars from me the version I got could have included 3 fans like other packages of the earlier version that I've seen floating on the internet.

- Also the base plate was not perfect (aka mirror like) across the entire surface and that bugged me. Even though the cooling performance is probably negligible from a better finished surface, it sucks quality control didn't catch that it wasn't a completely smooth surface. I didn't have the resources or time to lap the surface on my own to correct the imperfections from Phanteks factory.

Other Thoughts: Exceeded my expectations and swayed me back away from AIO liquid coolers until I decide to get a good custom liquid loop. The AIO pumps were bothering me terribly and this Phanteks cooler eliminates that piece entirely and gives quality that is in the top 5 air coolers.

5 out of 5 eggsCool as Ice with my FX 8370!

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: This thing is awesome! I was overheating my AMD FX 8370 on all auto settings with the stock air cooler to 70+ degrees Celsius! Now, I am over-clocking the blk from 200 Mz to 210 Mz and she idles at 9-13 C! Under load she stays under 40 C with no problem! I have installed only one fan since my RAM and case are preventing me by about an inch.

The included fan is really quiet too! The fan mounting system is quite good and easy to use.

This is my first time upgrading a CPU cooler and I am very happy. I have been building PCs for myself and family for about 10 years and I really wish I had done this sooner. I will never use a stock cooler again!

Cons: Takes up A LOT of space.

Other Thoughts: So, if you have the room in your case (measure first!) then you will not be disappointed. This is one hell of an upgrade from the stock cooler and worth every penny.

Take your time during installation and make sure to move all cables away from fan blades and leave room for air circulation. I had a little trouble screwing in the cooler as it was being a bit squirrelly; I had to push a little to get it to catch on both sides.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast!

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Absolute beast. I needed a better cooler for my FX8350 and this was the biggest out there! Keeps my Overclocked 8 core at a cool 35c at idle and 60c at full game mode!

Cons: A little difficult to install. TAKE YOUR TIME! READ THE DIRECTIONS!
Make sure you have a monster case or it wont fit.

5 out of 5 eggsBest heatsink I ever owned

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: This heatsink is a killer. It keeps my AMD 8350 a cool 32c idle. Under full load playing games, Rfactor, Rfactor2, Assetto Corsa, GSCE, Iracing I have never gone above 48c. I love this fan and have become even more of a Phanteks supporter recently. I knew I could add three140mm fan but just never felt I needed to, but finally just wanted to do it for kicks. I looked for a mounting kit online but could not find one anywhere. I went to Phanteks webpage and put in a support ticket asking where I could find the mounting kit. They replied the next day and told me to supply my invoice and they would send over a mounting kit. Well I went straight to account history and printed the invoice to pdf and emailed it back. Now I'm waiting for the kit. I was impressed by the quick response I got for the manufacture and there kindness to send out the mounting kit.

Thank you so much, you just won a customer for life.

Cons: Ok this is not a con but for those looking to buy this you better make sure your case will fit this bad boy because it is a monster. I first had it in a Sunbeam Acrylic case and had to remove the side panel support bar so I could close the side cover. I then purchased a Antec 1200 and had to remove the fan from the side cover because it would not close. Neither of these issues mattered to me I knew the heatsink was huge. Just a word of advice measure you case and make sure it will work for you.

Other Thoughts: Love this heatsink!!!

5 out of 5 eggsBest air cooling you can buy

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Cooling matches the best, more famous models in better colors. Photo's don't convey the color well, it's a deeper saturation of blue than pictures suggest.

Cooling power exceeds most AIO water, the best AIO water may match or exceed by 1 or 2C depending on fans.

Fans are quiet (not silent) at 1200 rpm, but push a lot of air.

My 4790K delid avgs 75C under extreme load (8 hours+) at 76F ambient, where some popular $35 models can't keep that below 98C (my chip runs hot, needs 1.32v to hold 4.7G).

Fans in my package were 4 pin, with a 4 pin Y adapter (optional).

You can match this, but you can't beat it with any other air and most AIO water. Other famous units may have 1800 RPM fans, but fit this one with 1800 and it is actually better by 1C.

Clips and support for 3rd fan included (not the fan). I experimented with a standard 2000 rpm 140 mm box type (actually smaller than those included)...dropped 2C as a result (pulled it off, I don't need it really - I'll wait for a matching fan someday).

Cons: Installation is tricky. Other, lesser units have motherboard clamps that hold the screws in place, but not this one. The clamp is very good quality, with rubber cushions, all metal...but you have to hold the screws in place to complete the mount.

Instructions are ok, but I had to re-work the mount 3 times. If the cross bars upon which the HSF is mounted aren't oriented correctly, you can't line up the mounting screws...it's not obvious, but things only fit one way (though you can mount the HSF in any 90 degree orientation).

You must have a screwdriver you can turn while aimed at screws between the two fin towers. A standard, middle sized philips worked fine, and you only need thumb tight, but a large handle drive won't fit, unless it's really long.

Longest HSF install I've ever done, but I wouldn't need so much time on the second try.

Other Thoughts: Best HSF purchase decision I've ever made.

It's huge! Surface area is part of the secret, but that's the price of high end cooling.

The HSF fins will obstruct one RAM slot on most motherboards (it does clear standard sticks). You can elect to mount fans "in reverse" if you prefer, but "standard" orientation leaves the first fan obstructing the other 3 RAM slots. Can't use this if you have RAM with high heat sinks (that don't do anything anyway). I would have to remove the HSF to change/service RAM sticks.

Standard orientation doesn't interfere with main PCIe (GPU) slot on most boards...at least 3/4" clearance, maybe 1".

Fans are large enough to touch the case panel on full tower...maybe 1 or 2mm clearance. Fan cables are long, sleeved, slightly stiff.

Fan clips are a little awkward to understand, instructions are clear if you use a magnifying glass on this step. They're fine, just required some experiment and thought.

Thermal compound is included in case you forget or are out.

I had to reconsider cabling. Motherboard power connector on edge opposite the back panel, such that wire leaving the connector could touch the first fan. I re-routed that with a 180 degree turn to pass the cable "behind" the backplate (behind the motherboard)...looks better anyway.

On full ATX board, first fan is about 3/4" from the edge of the board. If HDD cage has simple rack of disks behind front panel, I'd have to remove the HSF to pull the topmost HDD drive. I might JUST be able to "angle it" out if the drive below it were pulled first.

It was definitely worth re-routing cables and covering my RAM sticks to achieve this level of cooling without risking water.
