5 out of 5 eggsBest heatsink I ever owned

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: This heatsink is a killer. It keeps my AMD 8350 a cool 32c idle. Under full load playing games, Rfactor, Rfactor2, Assetto Corsa, GSCE, Iracing I have never gone above 48c. I love this fan and have become even more of a Phanteks supporter recently. I knew I could add three140mm fan but just never felt I needed to, but finally just wanted to do it for kicks. I looked for a mounting kit online but could not find one anywhere. I went to Phanteks webpage and put in a support ticket asking where I could find the mounting kit. They replied the next day and told me to supply my invoice and they would send over a mounting kit. Well I went straight to account history and printed the invoice to pdf and emailed it back. Now I'm waiting for the kit. I was impressed by the quick response I got for the manufacture and there kindness to send out the mounting kit.

Thank you so much, you just won a customer for life.

Cons: Ok this is not a con but for those looking to buy this you better make sure your case will fit this bad boy because it is a monster. I first had it in a Sunbeam Acrylic case and had to remove the side panel support bar so I could close the side cover. I then purchased a Antec 1200 and had to remove the fan from the side cover because it would not close. Neither of these issues mattered to me I knew the heatsink was huge. Just a word of advice measure you case and make sure it will work for you.

Other Thoughts: Love this heatsink!!!

5 out of 5 eggsBest air cooling you can buy

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Cooling matches the best, more famous models in better colors. Photo's don't convey the color well, it's a deeper saturation of blue than pictures suggest.

Cooling power exceeds most AIO water, the best AIO water may match or exceed by 1 or 2C depending on fans.

Fans are quiet (not silent) at 1200 rpm, but push a lot of air.

My 4790K delid avgs 75C under extreme load (8 hours+) at 76F ambient, where some popular $35 models can't keep that below 98C (my chip runs hot, needs 1.32v to hold 4.7G).

Fans in my package were 4 pin, with a 4 pin Y adapter (optional).

You can match this, but you can't beat it with any other air and most AIO water. Other famous units may have 1800 RPM fans, but fit this one with 1800 and it is actually better by 1C.

Clips and support for 3rd fan included (not the fan). I experimented with a standard 2000 rpm 140 mm box type (actually smaller than those included)...dropped 2C as a result (pulled it off, I don't need it really - I'll wait for a matching fan someday).

Cons: Installation is tricky. Other, lesser units have motherboard clamps that hold the screws in place, but not this one. The clamp is very good quality, with rubber cushions, all metal...but you have to hold the screws in place to complete the mount.

Instructions are ok, but I had to re-work the mount 3 times. If the cross bars upon which the HSF is mounted aren't oriented correctly, you can't line up the mounting screws...it's not obvious, but things only fit one way (though you can mount the HSF in any 90 degree orientation).

You must have a screwdriver you can turn while aimed at screws between the two fin towers. A standard, middle sized philips worked fine, and you only need thumb tight, but a large handle drive won't fit, unless it's really long.

Longest HSF install I've ever done, but I wouldn't need so much time on the second try.

Other Thoughts: Best HSF purchase decision I've ever made.

It's huge! Surface area is part of the secret, but that's the price of high end cooling.

The HSF fins will obstruct one RAM slot on most motherboards (it does clear standard sticks). You can elect to mount fans "in reverse" if you prefer, but "standard" orientation leaves the first fan obstructing the other 3 RAM slots. Can't use this if you have RAM with high heat sinks (that don't do anything anyway). I would have to remove the HSF to change/service RAM sticks.

Standard orientation doesn't interfere with main PCIe (GPU) slot on most boards...at least 3/4" clearance, maybe 1".

Fans are large enough to touch the case panel on full tower...maybe 1 or 2mm clearance. Fan cables are long, sleeved, slightly stiff.

Fan clips are a little awkward to understand, instructions are clear if you use a magnifying glass on this step. They're fine, just required some experiment and thought.

Thermal compound is included in case you forget or are out.

I had to reconsider cabling. Motherboard power connector on edge opposite the back panel, such that wire leaving the connector could touch the first fan. I re-routed that with a 180 degree turn to pass the cable "behind" the backplate (behind the motherboard)...looks better anyway.

On full ATX board, first fan is about 3/4" from the edge of the board. If HDD cage has simple rack of disks behind front panel, I'd have to remove the HSF to pull the topmost HDD drive. I might JUST be able to "angle it" out if the drive below it were pulled first.

It was definitely worth re-routing cables and covering my RAM sticks to achieve this level of cooling without risking water.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler but...

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: The fans are very quiet with plenty of air flow. It's very well built and the fins are not easily bent. I like the size. The instructions are pretty helpful but could be a little better. It seems to cool well.

Cons: Isn't the easiest to install. It's not the easiest to get the cooler threaded onto the brackets. The base plate on mine held a lot of residue from the sticker covering it and it was as smooth as I would expect.

4 out of 5 eggsmy thoughts.

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: -aesthetically pleasing in all color variants
-great warranty
-tons of included accessories
-detailed manual for beginners
-easily a top 3 air heatsink in todays market

Cons: -a bit difficult to install without a long and skinny screwdriver
-say goodbye to most high profile ram
-girth might cover a top pci/e slot

Other Thoughts: not much to say really, akin to it's cousin(s) like the noctua dh14 and other dual tower heat sinks- it performs like a boss. Fans are a bit more noisier than noctua's but worth the trade off for color variants IMO.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: I have an i7 920[c0] @3.8ghz and 1.375v with an ambient temp of 24°c:
MB: 38°c
CPU: 35° (idle avg) 71°c (max during 3hr stress test)

Also used the included thermal paste.

Cons: On a Asus p6t deluxe v2 board this heatsink covers one slot of ram. Would have to take the heatsink off of the ram to fit it in using corsair's dominator series, or shave the ram's heatsink fins down. Unfortunetely I have a bad stick of RAM anyways so not a big deal at the moment.

Other Thoughts: During cpu intensive work I'm averaging low 60's. Stock intel heatsink and stock cpu settings would run in the high 70's doing the same previously. The only thing that would beat this heatsink is a custom water cooling solution.

I also have a full size tower with plenty of airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome for overclocking

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Allowed me to easily OC my Phenom II 965 Black Edition to 4.0 GHz. It got it up to a stable 4.4 at one point.
Also pretty much the best looking cooler of it's level. It's perfect for my blue color scheme.
Everything included for a full swapout.

Cons: It's big, so:
1. You better have some low profile ram
2. It's a tight squeeze into an NZXT Phantom 410
3. It takes a bit of time and effort to install.

Other Thoughts: If you know how to overclock, you should know how to deal with a cooler this massive, so the cons are more like challenges.

4 out of 5 eggsPhantastek!

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: The cooler just looks great in the case, I'm very happy with it. Very well-built, and is perfect for a blue theme.

Cons: Didn't come with all three fans. While two is sufficient, for the price they could've thrown in another fan.

5 out of 5 eggsBig, works

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: looks good in my case, blue theme.
Easy install.

I didn't use the fans that came with it. replaced them with 2, 120mm 80cfm LED fans that I had on the Corsair H80 this cooler replaced.
The H80 and this cooler gave me the exact same temps when running IntelBurn.

I7 3770k @4600mhz 1.28volts.
room temp: 24c
Average max core temp 77c

Cons: Didn't install itself...

Other Thoughts: Antec 1100 case, had to trim the 2 120mm side fans for this cooler to fit. Notta big deal.

5 out of 5 eggsBeauty and the Beast

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: It does what it's supposed to do, and looks good doing it; I love how the Phanteks logo looks reminiscent of the Star Trek TNG font.

Cons: I bought it on a sale and received the package without one of the securing nuts that holds the heat sink. The problem was quickly resolved through an email to Phanteks. They sent off a replacement nut immediately.

Other Thoughts: The heat-sink is so gloriously huge that I was able to remove both 140mm fans without worry. My case came with three 120mm fans and one 200mm, and those blow enough air through the PH-TC14PE to keep it cool and quiet. The 140mm Phantek fans push a LOT of air, but since I'm not a gamer I prioritized quiet over cooling capability. CPU still stays under 30 deg C.

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST!!!!!

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: This heatsink looks Awesome, i purchased the blue and love it. I see a lot of people saying you need low profile ram which is false. Mine work just fine and you can see my set up below. I haven't over clocked my system yet but from other reviews i see this this can take whatever you trow at it. The fans look great and i love the blue/white. Very quiet and yes it is big so make sure you measure.

Cons: Nothing yet, all i can say is buy this heatsink, its worth every penny. Only complaint i can say which i also seen on other reviews is that one of the bags were open. I'm not to happy because it gives you the feeling that its been open before.
