5 out of 5 eggsSolid Scythe

Pros: Effective, reliable little fan. Does what it is designed for.

Cons: No mounting hardware of any sort comes with this unit. I didn't really expect it to but if another brand provided this, I would consider it. I had to be creative to get it to stay on my northbridge hs.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works.

Pros: Strapped it onto a GA-P35-DS3L northbridge heatsink. Reduced temperatures by 8C.

Cons: Only a 2-pin header. Makes a fairly high little whirring due to its small size and high RPMs. No getting around that, at this size fan.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine - quiet

Pros: Quiet for a 40mm fan
Inexpensive
Right size for replacing stock cooler fan on Atom N330

Cons: Power cable is only about 5" long (long enough for my use)

Other Thoughts: My home file server is built around an Intel Atom N330 board. It's on 24/7. The stock CPU cooler fan is 40mm, and it started buzzing and making more noise after 3 years. This little Scythe fan is one of the few available in the right size. Using the 2-pin to 3-pin adapter it fits right into place and the file server is quiet again. Yay!

1 out of 5 eggsNo good!

Pros: I can't seem to find any.

Cons: The fan only begins spinning if I give it a nudge, as if there is a bad fan bearing that keeps it from spinning up. And when it does spin up, it doesn't move much air at all, is it supposed to be like that? How are there so many 5-eggs? When my computer goes to sleep, the fan turns off, and won't turn back on after system resume. I'm not going to poke a chopstick at it each time I want my northbridge cooled!

Maybe I was unlucky and chose a defect, but so many cons made me wary of wanting to try another. The 'Egg once again comes through and helps me out!

5 out of 5 eggsdecent. quiet.

Pros: quiet. moves enough air. Smaller than other fans in this class, so if you need it in tight quarters like we did then this is the fan for you!

Cons: Won't cool my overclocked quad core.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Eliminated a motherboard chipset overheating issue in a case with poor airflow.

Cons: Not many options for mounting. Unless you end up extremely lucky with existing mounting you're at the mercy of rigging something up for this fan to work. This will however work with any standard 40mm mountings that you commonly find in external components suck as drive enclosures, hubs, etc.
