5 out of 5 eggsAMD FX-9590

Pros: Works well with AMD FX-9590

Cons: Cumbersome install. Need to have motherboard out of the case to install. Fine for a new build, but a pain for an upgrade.

2 out of 5 eggsNot such a long life...

Pros: Works great until the bearings seize.

Cons: Because of it's size and weight installation could be easier, and once it's in it works great, until the "long life" bearings seize up in just under a year. I have had $10 oem cpu coolers last longer than this thing did. When you pay extra for something to last and it is marketed on that feature it should probably last longer than one year.

5 out of 5 eggsHints for install.

Pros: Great cooler. My 8350 has never climbed above 37 c.

Clears ram.

Cons: Tall. Very tall.

I have an older full atx and had to remount my side fan to the outside and custom melt some plexiglass to make airflow smooth.

Installing this cooler can be difficult. Here is a hint.

Use a stock amd backing plate if you're having issues. Provided (Phillips head, or Allen head) Screws are long enough. I've installed 4 of these and all went in with little to no headache.

Other Thoughts: For cost to cooling you can't beat the longevity of this coolers fan.

Invest in some arctic thermal paste.

If you have a buzzing or grinding noise check the fins on heatsink coils. Easy fix less, less shipping costs.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cooler, BEWARE very bad screws.

Pros: Very effective cooler, it can keep my FX8300 below 50°C even when using 7 cores at maximum. The LED is moderate intensity: it doesn't scream I'M HERE LOOK AT ME.

Cons: The installation screws for my AM3+ motherboard (Asus M5A990FX ) are uselessly too short. The included screw and caps measure around 1" end to end when assembled. The measured distance of the fan's supports to the backplate is around 2". This would have required applying SEVERE force to bend the fan's supports into place with such short screws (assuming you can balance the massive fan and not break the motherboard in the process...). I got some cheap 3" long screws and hex-nuts from the local hardware store and adjusted everything into place. The nuts were a bit tricky to tighten because the fan is huge, but that's nonetheless doable.

Other Thoughts: Screws aside, I recommend removing the fin's plastic covering last. While covered, they're protected and easy to maneuver.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny

Pros: Installed on AMD A-series processor. I did not have any problem installing at all. All parts that I needed were supplied. Cools processor down to 22 when idling an 30+ on full load. I would buy another without a thought, as the reviews by people made it sound so hard to AMD processors. It is VERY quiet.

Cons: The little hex wrench is not of highest quality. I used one of my own to tighten the screws. That is the only negative thing I have to say, but that is very minor in my book.

2 out of 5 eggsgrinders in the night

Pros: it's big, it's shiney

Cons: it's big, the fan sounds like it's grinding on metal, it only came with three mount screws for amd but 9 for intel, and exceptionally hard to mount.

Other Thoughts: I'm thinking i'm going to RMA this

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Cooler

Pros: -This looks like Iron Man's arc reactor in his chest, it is way cool (no pun intended!)
-Keeps the CPU pretty cool even when overclocked (running 4770k @ 4.5GHz)
-Nice LED. I got it to match my case. There are other colors if blue isn't for you

Cons: -Tricky to install, but do-able with a little patience. The mounting method could use some work. Don't lose the allen wrench that comes with it! It is specifically designed to install and uninstall this cooler and it might be tough to remove without it
-HUGE! This may not be a con to some. I knew this before I bought it. Make the unit will fit in your case
-Fan is not replaceable

Other Thoughts: This cooler seems to be aimed for those who want a unique look. If you don't care about looks, there are better coolers out there, although this one does a fine job.

2 out of 5 eggsFan is great, mounting kit is NON VIABLE

Pros: Very quiet.

Keeps my FX-8350 at 108F with all 8 cores running full bore doing video transcoding.

Using the stock fan for this CPU, the temperature was 150F and the computer sounded like a dust buster.

This fan is a significant improvement in this regard.

Nickle plating helps remove sharp edges on fins, making it less likely that someone will be cut.

The blue color on the LED isn't super bright, but is a nice subdued blue.

I tried for over two hours to install this using the provide base plate and screw sets.

The screws are simply not long enough to reach.

I really have no how they expect anyone to mount this, at least on an AM3+ board, and I don't think things would be better on intel based boards.

It is not possible to mount this fan to the provide base plate. You can get one screw to catch its threading, but that is all. My wife and I were both standing in the kitchen, wrestling to force a second tab down close enough to the board so that a screw would catch its threading.

Never happened.

I eventually found a solution in using the baseplate and screws that came with the motherboard itself, eyeballing the tension on each screw and trying not to put too much torsion on the board itself.

I should not have to mix and match parts from other mounting solutions in order to mount this fan. This is a SEVERE DESIGN FLAW.

I've bought Zalman fans in the past, and have always been very happy with them. This is the first time I've come across this problem. I've never had a problem like this before. This is unprecedented.

To solve this design flaw, in my opinion, the mounting screws need to be made LONGER. The nuts that these are supposed to screw into have a hole that goes all the way through. There is NO REASON why the screws could not be made long enough to catch on those nuts.

Both of these options would bring the nuts and the screws closer together, allowing them to thread up.

Another small problem is that the instructions have an error on page 3.

On this page, the instructions say to mount the fan with the thinner heatsink towards the back of the case. The purpose of this orientation is to push hot air towards the base back, where it can be blow out by the fan that is usually mounted there.

This is a good idea, however there is a critical error in that it is the THICKER heatsink that must be placed towards the back of the case.

Interestingly enough, the actual drawing in the instruction manual shows the correct mounting orientation. It is the text that accompanies that drawing which is in error.
