The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B combines some of the most advanced technologies in the market used for CPU coolers to create powerful cooling performance. The CPU cooler utilizes composite heatpipe which is 50% more effective in transferring heat compared to ordinary heatpipes. Combined with a whisper-quiet 135 mm blue LED PWM fan positioned between two massive nickel plated pure copper heatsinks, the CNPS9900 MAX-B is more than enough to satisfy overclockers and users who are looking for ultra powerful cooling performance in silent operation.

  • newegg Powerful Cooling Performance [Qmax: 300W] Optimally designed pure copper fins effectively disperse heat away from the CPU via composite heatpipes, while the high capacity 135mm fan quickly cools the heatsink for stable operation of high performance CPUs.
  • newegg Ultra Quiet 135mm Blue/Red LED Fan An ultra quiet 135mm fan is incorporated for minimized noise while the blue LEDs heighten the cool aesthetics.
  • newegg Black-Pearl Nickel Plating The entire copper heatsink of CNPS9900 MAX-B is ‘Black-Pearl’ Nickel Plated for long-term corrosion resistance, while the deep ‘Black-Pearl’ tone along with the high intensity blue LEDs reinforce its powerful aesthetics.
  • newegg PWM Fan Speed Control The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fan automatically adjusts fan speed according to the CPU’s temperature, while the included Resistor Cable (RC7P) provides the option of reducing the input voltage for overall reduction of fan speed and noise.
  • newegg High Performance Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG2 The included all new high performance thermal grease ZM-STG2 maximizes heat transfer from the CPU to the base of CPU cooler for intensified cooling performance.
  • newegg Versatile Compatibility The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B accommodates a broad range of CPU sockets including Intel LGA1156 / 1366 / 775 and AMD AM3 / AM2+ / AM2.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, Not long lasting bearing....

Pros: Cools good, really quiet, cool lighting, easy install

Cons: Sharp fins if you have a small case, bearing starts to fail after a few years

Other Thoughts: I think its a great cooler, but never overclocked or ran anything strenuous on my pc and the bearing is failing. The fan no longer gets the rpms up to where it can cool properly.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat looking product, and also keeps temps down

Pros: Looks great
Keeps my overclocked i5 cool

Cons: Not the best instructions
The screw heads are of a softer metal, can be easy to strip

Other Thoughts: Make sure to install the bolts first then the plastic clips!
Make sure to take your time when tightening the screws, alternate each tightness like you were putting on a car tire.
Love it now that its in!

2 out of 5 eggsSimple fix could make it much better

Pros: Lots of positive reviews on Newegg. Someone must like Zalman coolers.

Cons: The mounting screws. I'm installing to an LGA1150. The recessed hex head screws are difficult to get to under the mass of the heat sink. The hex head driver included with the kit has a "ball socket" end that allows you to screw from angle. That actually worked for the first few rotations. The screws are made out of a really low quality soft metal. ALL 4 hex head screws have stripped so I can't tighten them as much as I'd like. I tried using the other end of the driver and just patiently tightened the best I could. A simple fix would be to use either phillips or regular head screws and just struggle with a right angle driver. At least you'd have more leverage to tighten correctly. I'm going ahead with my build as is.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Keeps Intel Core i7-5930K at very low temperatures (37-53 C).
- Cools rapidly after changing from heavy to idle activity.
- LEDs are bright but not annoyingly bright.
- Very easy to install, no backplate required for the i7-5930K.

Cons: - Fan feels flimsy. It feels like it will snap off.

Other Thoughts: Build:
- ASUS X99-DELUXE USB 3.1 Mainboard
- Intel Core i7-5930K 6-core Processor
- ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-B CPU Cooler
- EVGA SuperNOVA 220-P2-0750-X1 750W Fully-Modular Power Supply
- (2x) EVGA GeForce GTX 970 04G-P4-2978-KR FTW Edition

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly-pain to install

Pros: This heat-sink/fan works perfectly, my AMD FX-8330 125W CPU is running much cooler then before. With the standard fan the heat escalated to 150 F, with this fan the temp never pass 110 F while gaming. Great improvement.

Cons: On the negative side is the installation of this Fan assembly. It is always a royal pain to remove a motherboard to install a fan as it could lead to some damage if your not careful. The screws used are hex and while they did provide a wrench it was not long enough to secure the fan while going around the fan in an angle. Fortunately I do have a longer hex wrenches. Just be patient and make sure your ground yourself.

Other Thoughts: While the install is not for everyone it is not beyond the reach of normal tinkerers. I new the problems going in but could not find any other fan/heat sync that would address the heat issue I had to deal with without going the liquid cool way, another install/upgrade that would require time, patience and more rigging. In the end this fan is working better then I hoped for.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Efficient cooling. Quiet enough to where I never realized it was running even when CPU was under load.

Cons: Bulky to where I had to break a plastic portion of my case to get it to fit. Had to swap out for longer screws to install with the bracket for my AMD processor.

Other Thoughts: Bought this back in Apr 2012 and it has lasted up until Oct 2015 before the fan speed began to stay down around 500 even when the CPU is under a load. Would say it was worth the money back when I bought it.

1 out of 5 eggsDestroyed CPU

Pros: None

Cons: So, where do I begin? I did read the reviews and saw all the red flags about the trouble people had with the cooler and I should have listened. But, I have bought one of these in the past and had no issues, so I thought I would risk it. Well, if you couldn't tell by the title, things went very very bad.

First and foremost, Zalman, please explain to me and everyone else why the screws are so short? There is absolutely no reason or logic as to why you made them so short. So, because they are so short it takes extreme pressure and brute force to even try and get the screw to reach the mounting plate under the Motherboard. Well, guess what, because of the force needed, it broke my CPU. I don't mean it cracked it, no, it just bent the hell out of the pins so now my computer won't post and t=my ASUS Mobo reports code 58. 58 being CPU self test failed.

Oh, I had to abandon trying to even get the fan on as I couldn't get more that one screw hooked on. So, I went back to the old stock fan and that is when I discovered the problem.

So, I will warn anyone that is thinking about buying this cooler. DON'T. It may look really nice, but unless you want to risk destroying your CPU just keep browsing to the next one.

Other Thoughts: I have an older system. Running a 1st gen I5 2500k Socket 1155. This cooler says it is compatible. It isn't.

1 out of 5 eggsAMD clips are essentially flat; can't install

Pros: By all reports, Zalman CPU coolers cool very effectively. I hope I get the chance to confirm that someday.

Cons: The AMD "clips" (pieces of metal by which the cooler is attached to the motherboard) have to be bent down at the end so that they can reach from where they are attached at the cooler side to where the nuts and bolts can secure it to the motherboard. That's how they are shown in the manual, and that's how they appear in a video showing the cooler being installed on an AMD motherboard.

The AMD clips in the unit I received are essentially flat. After attaching them to the cooler according to instructions, when I set the cooler on a flat surface, it rests on the polished surface that is intended to rest on the CPU. In the video, it rests on the AMD clips. If I tried to attach the cooler, I suspect I'd end up punching a CPU-sized hole in the motherboard. I cannot bend the clips myself with the precision needed for a good thermal connection between the CPU and the cooler. so this highly-rated cooler is worthless to me.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, Zalman's support has a reputation as abysmal as the reputation of its products is good. Their support web page has a picture of people on the phone, but they give no phone number whatsoever, and do not have any online support chat. I was expecting to assemble my new computer over the Labor Day weekend, but thanks to Zalman, that won't be happening unless I can find a good cooler nearby quickly and for a good price on a holiday weekend.
