The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B combines some of the most advanced technologies in the market used for CPU coolers to create powerful cooling performance. The CPU cooler utilizes composite heatpipe which is 50% more effective in transferring heat compared to ordinary heatpipes. Combined with a whisper-quiet 135 mm blue LED PWM fan positioned between two massive nickel plated pure copper heatsinks, the CNPS9900 MAX-B is more than enough to satisfy overclockers and users who are looking for ultra powerful cooling performance in silent operation.

  • newegg Powerful Cooling Performance [Qmax: 300W] Optimally designed pure copper fins effectively disperse heat away from the CPU via composite heatpipes, while the high capacity 135mm fan quickly cools the heatsink for stable operation of high performance CPUs.
  • newegg Ultra Quiet 135mm Blue/Red LED Fan An ultra quiet 135mm fan is incorporated for minimized noise while the blue LEDs heighten the cool aesthetics.
  • newegg Black-Pearl Nickel Plating The entire copper heatsink of CNPS9900 MAX-B is ‘Black-Pearl’ Nickel Plated for long-term corrosion resistance, while the deep ‘Black-Pearl’ tone along with the high intensity blue LEDs reinforce its powerful aesthetics.
  • newegg PWM Fan Speed Control The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fan automatically adjusts fan speed according to the CPU’s temperature, while the included Resistor Cable (RC7P) provides the option of reducing the input voltage for overall reduction of fan speed and noise.
  • newegg High Performance Super Thermal Grease ZM-STG2 The included all new high performance thermal grease ZM-STG2 maximizes heat transfer from the CPU to the base of CPU cooler for intensified cooling performance.
  • newegg Versatile Compatibility The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-B accommodates a broad range of CPU sockets including Intel LGA1156 / 1366 / 775 and AMD AM3 / AM2+ / AM2.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding aftermarket cooler

Pros: Keeps CPU very cool, around 30 degrees Celsius. Directions for installation are very clear. Looks great and very quiet. Note that installation might take longer than a stock cooler but it is not that difficult. Just follow the instructions.

Intel i5 4590
Antec 900 ATX case

Cons: Very large; may be too large for a side fan in some cases. I had to cut off part of the fan shroud in my Antec for it to fit properly.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Cool

Pros: Looks nice (subjective), does a great job at cooling. If nice aesthetics and great performance are what you're after, this unit fits the bill.

Cons: Installation is a pain, but worth it. Unit is pretty large - ensure your case can accommodate it.

Other Thoughts: I have bought 3 of these in the past year. They aren't cheap but they do a fantastic job. These cool nearly the same as the nice Noctua air coolers (look up the Guru3D comparison charts or any other). I can't stand the ugly tan/brown fans Noctua uses so that's a no go for me.

Here's my 9900MAX on my i7 4790K. Temps vs stock cooler as follows:

Idle temps dropped 5 degrees; CPU idles just over ambient.
Load temps dropped 25-30 degrees (C).

This Zalman Cooler::
Summer.. 80 ambient (27c) (Idle - 28c / Load - 63c)
Winter...... 67 ambient (19c) (Idle - 20c / Load - 51c)

Stock Cooler:
Summer.. 80 ambient (27c) (Idle - 33c / Load - 89c)
Winter...... 67 ambient (19c) (Idle - 25c / Load - 77c)

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great for 3+ years now

Pros: Works well in keeping my CPU cool under heavy and/or continous use. It's been over 3 years now since I installed it and it's still going strong with no problems, no fan issues/noise problems, or other issues. Looks cool with a nice blue light.

Cons: None. Installation was a bit of a pain due to the use of allen/hex screws that are smooth on the sides of the heads, making it hard to grip to turn (because it's easier to install by turning by hand at least until initially). One tip is to bend/push down the "arms" that attach to the screws so that you can hand turn them until they get secured, as that is very painful and slow to do using an allen wrench.

Other Thoughts: Not cheap but worth the price. It is quite large so it won't fit all cases. Make sure you put it on the right orientation so you don't have to remove it and put it back on in reverse (I believe the air blows from the side with the power cable to the side without the cable)!

5 out of 5 eggs** Look No Further! **

Pros: Quiet! Installed on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula cooling a FX-8350 overclocked to 4.4Ghz with stock voltage. The fan is spinning at 1500rpm and you can barely hear it. Encoding Blu-ray 1080p x264 video the core temp hasn't gone over 49c which is about 14-15 degrees cooler than the CNPS-9500A that it replaced.

Ran Prime95 for 10 minutes temp did not exceed 44c (24c over room temp) while having 3 browser windows open typing this review.

Cons: The installation is not easy and the directions are a little lacking. The nuts that the bolts screw into that mount the cooler have to fit inside the backplate mounting bracket and THEN the clips fit over them. If you do not do this the screws will be way too short. I see lots of 1 star reviews complaining of short screws and I wonder if they were able to figure this out. Even with the nuts and clips installed properly the screws are still tough to get into place but it can be done by just one person. 3 hands would be more helpful. A nice video of the install can be found on the Quietpc website.

Other Thoughts: Installed in Rosewill Blackhawk (not Ultra) case without any problems and has plenty of clearance for the side panel fan. and does not block any RAM or PCI-E slots. CPU fan exhausts to rear of the case.

I did not use the included thermal grease, I instead used Noctua NT-H1 which seems to be performing great.

If you have a case that just can't fit the standard 160mm CPU cooler towers, this is the cooler to get. For $50 with a $15 rebate card ($35 total) you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic cooler, below avg company

Pros: Works great with killer looks. Louder than I thought it would be and had to install their fan controller. Mounting isn't as bad as some say but I would never attempt to install anyone's heat sink cooler w/o removing the motherboard from the case.

Cons: The design engineers can't be happy they work for a company that seems to be so out to lunch. Many of their products are sold out and they have nonexistent customer service. I really want the red version of this fan but it always seems to be sold out. And I've been trying to buy an extra mounting kit for a CNPS9900A LED for weeks. They do NOT anwer their phones or emails.

1 out of 5 eggsClip Issue

Pros: Quiet. Looks good

Cons: Intel clips I received are not the ones pictures in the install video on the Zalman site.

http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Setup.php?Idx=416

I purchase my first 9900MAX over 1.5 years ago. I wsa getting a Fan Speed error from my computer so I purchased another 9900MAX. The Intel clips with my most recent Zalman 9900MAX were flatter than the 1st fan. I didn't want to chance anything so I used the 1st fan Intel clips. Additionally the thermal paste was very thick and hopefully it will work. Other pastes used in the past builds were a bit much "gooeyer" as not as pasty/thich as the thermal paste included in the kit.

Other Thoughts: I will be checking the temp on my processor daily to make sure the paste supplied by Zalman won't be causing an overheating issue.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear valued customer,

We sincerely apologize for the issue. Please contact our customer service e-mail support.usa@zalmanusa.com or via toll free number 1-888-925-6266 for further assistance.

Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsbest cooler

Pros: this cooler is quiet when resister is used, keeps my fx-8350 under 30c at full load, soft blue led fan, just a great cooler. comes with a fin guard now, no more cut hands

Cons: install is the only con, MB removal is a must, easier to install out of case than inside,

Other Thoughts: well worth the money............

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy if your not ready for Water

Pros: Bought to pair with my FX-8350 that I ordered so I can OC a bit. Holding good temps at Stock 4 ghz under heavy load. I didn't have any issues with the install. Had to remove the Mobo since my older antec case didn't have an open backplate. I went ahead and bent the corners of the AMD brackets slightly because of the people saying the screws weren't long enough. I mounted it with the first try and was putting the mobo back in about 15 minutes. It is rather large though if you don't have a big case

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from an Antec 900 to a NZXT H440 and this thing is beautiful

1 out of 5 eggsImpossible to install for AMD

Pros: Looks awesome, good price, mostly good reviews.

Cons: I bought this cooler along with a new FX 8320E and Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard with high hopes of keeping the new cpu cool with little effort. Little did I know the problems that would come from trying to install this cooler. The cooler uses a custom mounting bracket which is understandable from the size and weight but the screws meant to mount from the heat sink to the bracket were way too short to reach without fear of breaking the motherboard. My wife and I struggled for an hour and a half trying to get the cooler on but gave up after only getting 3 of the 4 screws on.
After that we gave up, I put the stock mounting bracket from the MB back on and used my previous Zalman flower design on within 5 seconds of getting the stock bracket back on. I would love to give this product a good review if only I could actually get it on and working to test it.
