ArctiClean is the first retail product to emerge from the union of Arctic Silver and Nanotherm technology. ArctiClean is a two-step cleaning process that removes existing thermal grease or pads and prepares the thermal surface for a fresh application of thermal interface material.

ArctiClean 1 totally emulsifies thermal pads and thermal greases. The waxes, oils, and fillers of the thermal material are suspended within the ArctiClean 1 so they can be cleaned off completely. This emulsification allows ArctiClean to remove the thermal material in the microscopic imperfections in the heatsink or heat spreader that non-emulsifying cleaners cannot touch. The flash corrosion inhibitors in ArctiClean 2 then significantly reduce the corrosion layer on the copper or aluminum, improving the interface between the metal and the new thermal material and maximizing thermal transfer.

  • newegg Unique 2-Step Process ArctiClean 1 Thermal Material Remover quickly emulsifies and dissolves the existing thermal grease or pad from the CPU and/or heatsink so that it can easily be removed with a clean cloth or paper towel. A few drops of ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier and some gentle wiping then removes the remaining residue and inhibits flash corrosion on copper or aluminum.
  • newegg ArctiClean 1 Thermal Material Remover ArctiClean 1 uses a proprietary combination of non-toxic biodegradable solvents to emulsify thermal greases or thermal pads. The citrus and soy based solvents in ArctiClean 1 match or exceed many hazardous and volatile solvents such as fluorinated and chlorinated organic solvents, acetone, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol, and toluene.
  • newegg ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier The cationic surfactants in ArctiClean 2 remove any residue left by the ArctiClean 1 leaving a pristine surface for the application of a new thermal interface material. It also incorporates advanced flash corrosion inhibitors that minimize the corrosion layer on copper and aluminum allowing for more intimate contact between the thermal interface material and the heatsink.
  • newegg Using ArctiClean 2 With Other Solvents Most solvents and cleaning products leave residue on the CPU and heatsink that negatively affects the performance of any subsequently applied thermal interface material. ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier removes the residue of citrus or petroleum based cleaners and inhibits flash corrosion on a copper or aluminum heatsink.
  • newegg Why Not Just Use Isopropyl Alcohol or Acetone? Put isopropyl alcohol or acetone on a thermal pad and 10 minutes later you will have a thermal pad. Only with a lot of rubbing and scrubbing will you be able to remove the pad. While the alcohol or acetone may soften the pad, neither actually dissolves the pad. Although less visible, it is the same cleaning thermal greases with alcohol or acetone.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes it

Pros: Cleans right off if you follow instructions

Cons: It has a strong scent so don't get your nose to close to it.

Other Thoughts: Before I bought this I was scraping away with tissue at old thermal paste. This thing will wipe it right off. I recommend about 4-7 drops, and do let it sit those 30 seconds. Also follow the order, bottle 1 then 2.

Does exactly as advertised, my CPU was nice and shiny before I applied some new thermal paste.

5 out of 5 eggsStill is great stuff

Pros: This stuff is great for really cleaning off all the old thermal gunk on a CPU die. Really good stuff. I especially like it for removing buildup on the direct heatpipe style CPU coolers as there's always a small gap between the pipes. This stuff really cleans out the crud that builds up in there.

Cons: Some of the bottles I've gotten are really thick plastic and hard to squeeze. Otherwise, no cons.

Other Thoughts: The cleaner smells like orange oil. Just in case you don't like the smell of oranges.

Also, your average person probably won't use much of this bottle ever. I happen to test CPU heatsinks quite frequently so the constant swapping has me cleaning CPU dies a lot. Just some food for thought.

4 out of 5 eggsFor that squeaky clean!

Pros: You won't be able to really clean a thermal metallic surface off properly without a cleaner and purifier, thermal paste won't just wipe off with a cloth, and even when after you use a thermal dissolving agent you still need to clean any "cloudy" impurities away as well.

A few drops from the first bottle, wait a few seconds for the chemical to dissolve the paste, and it really does just wipe off with a cloth.

The second bottle will lift away the "cloudy" appearance. In the case of a i7 CPU, you'll be able to read the etched writing on it. In the case of a circular (Corsair H90) watercooler's circular heatplate you can see the concentric grooves (like you would see on an old vinyl record).

Using these, and in the correct sequence (1 then 2) with a clean microfiber cloth will give you such guaranteed results that you won't want to do it any other way.

Cons: Would be better in a syringe than an eye-dropper-like bottle, especially if you're doing this for multiple computers. Why? Ease-of-use. If you don't understand what I mean you probably don't use this on a regular basis enough to know that, so this wouldn't be much a negative.

Seems fairly expensive for what it is, but then again quality chemicals usually are.

Other Thoughts: The vapors are... well lets just say you should limit your exposure and use in a well ventilated area. It's not terrible mind you, and it should be expected. This isn't tap water afterall, it's a specialized degreaser solvent!

I always use a clean fine microfiber cloth to clean with. Do not use a contaminated/dirty cloth.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat stuff

Pros: Super easy to apply and works really well. I never knew the chips actually shine like mirrors! It soaked into the old paste quickly and dissolved it completely. I chose to apply it twice, but probably didn't need to.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Cheap and easy. Be sure to have a big enough lint free cloth to soak up and wipe off the residue.
