Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. This 3.5-gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates.

Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

  • newegg 99.9% Pure Silver The Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
  • newegg High Density The Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. The thermally-enhanced ceramic particles including micronized silver, sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles improve the compound's performance and long-term stability.

5 out of 5 eggsDo it the right way!

Pros: Used this with my Hyper 212 Evo and it dropped my cpu temps by 10 C. Comes with plenty of paste for several applications. TIP: Before applying it, make sure you know how to do it the right way. Several people have their own methods, some work and some don't. If you don't apply it right, you may even get worse temps than before

5 out of 5 eggsContinues to perform

Pros: Performs well on an i7 3770k with a CM 212 evo, about 32C idle and 60-65C in Prime95. It doesn't add much to the cost of a build and it's thick, making installing easy. I use the pea method and am very happy with the product.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Reviews that have people switching thermal paste on existing hardware setups are probably more useful. It works well, so I don't even bother with stuff that comes with aftermarket CPU coolers.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: What can I say...it's thermal paste. Comes in an easy to use tube. Spreads easy. Good stuff.

Cons: Need to scrub my fingers every time I use this stuff, no matter how careful I am (best I could come up with).

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: amazing heat reduction

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: My AMD FX-4100 was running hot.. 65-69 degrees hot! I checked around and was pointed to this stuff. I expected maybe 15-20 degree heat reduction and was amazed when I saw I was running at 25-26C now. The old compound was virtually nonexistant so that likely had something to do with the initial heat buildup.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This compound is the best I've used yet. It's extremely thick, but easy to apply and has lowered my CPU temperatures by about 4 Celsius.

Cons: Sticky if you get on skin (don't get it on your skin.)

Other Thoughts: I use the pea drop in the middle and place the heat sink on top of that. Due to my slight Parkinsons I accidentally snatched my heat sink up during the mounting process, after having compressed the thermal paste, and it was completely and evenly spread on the top of the processor. Even though it's thick it spreads itself extremely well.

If you need a quality thermal paste, get this product.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in class

Pros: Efficient thermal paste between your CPU and your cooler makes all the difference. Arctic Silver 5 has been doing an awesome job on my latest rig (31°C idle, 57°C under full load). I will be honest, though: I did not perform any side-by-side testing. I applied AS-5 and didn't look back.

Cons: I know that this stuff is "easy" to use, but I still take my time to make sure that I don't accidentally smear it anywhere I don't want it to be. Even if it is "easy," take your time to do a clean job.

Other Thoughts: I have been using Arctic Silver on every build of mine since 1998. I consider it to be an indispensable component. With that said, it's also fair to say that my brand loyalty may have blinded me to other alternatives. I'm willing to accept its documented superior performance at face value.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: none!

Cons: I got 8c to 10c higher temps with this product, same cpu, same cooler, the cooler was pasted previously with the pre applied paste that came on the cooler, not known for being high quality, even though i did not feel that i had misapplied the compound i did it over again and got the same results.

Other Thoughts: I am wondering if i got the genuine article, there is a story on the net about a knock of version of this product, complete with jpeg image looks exactly like this product. The add went on to say that retailers were not necessarily aware of this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat thermal paste

Pros: This thermal compound keeps my CPU temps at 33c at idle and lowest 32c on all 4 cores of my 3770k all while using the stock cooler that came with my possessor as i odered the Swiftech H220 Water Cooling kit so i should get about 28c - 26c hopefully instead, not much of a difference but i like temps low as possible. I get 43 c- 50 c - while playing games with high settings and 65 - 68c with 100% load testing with cenebench program that i downloaded. Im saticfied

Cons: None what so ever just buy it!!
