3 out of 5 eggsU510 - so/so

Pros: Horsepower is great. Quick machine. Price is good.

Cons: Mini vga is NOT a mini vga. I've purchased 3 adapters with no success. I haven't even found a company (including lenovo) that sells the correct adapter for this port, so you have to buy a more expensive ($30+) hdmi - vga if you have an older projector. Mouse is sometimes glitchy (reboot fixes it). It frequently doesn't go into sleep mode correctly.

Other Thoughts: I've been in IT for 10+ years. I was looking for a computer to do video editing, and this one has the horsepower for a good price. When i have it hooked to an external mouse and keyboard, I love it, but the lack of an inexpensive simple vga converter for presentations is annoying (useless port).

2 out of 5 eggsTERRIBLE

Pros: Backlit keyboard, HDMI out. that's about it

Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE. Lenovo gave me the 3rd degree when I asked about downgrading to my own purchased copy of windows 7 and threatened to void any warranty services if i switched off of windows 8. driver support is horrendous with windows 7 and even on 8 things just magically stop working whenever they want to. the beep this thing makes when the battery gets low sounds like we're still in the early 90's and it seems to drown out any other noise in a 20 foot radius of the machine. the touchpad is over sensitive and i find my cursor moving around from time to time when i attempt to type- resulting in garbled sentances with half words mixed together with whatever it chose to place the cursor by. a usb keyboard solves this, but shouldn't be needed. had this thing for 2 months now and the fan over the cpu/gpu gets LOUD now. great. the thing is already dying and havent even hit 6 months. STAY AWAY FROM LENOVO

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Looks purdy.

Cons: Typical Lenovo trash. The screen flickers like mad. Uninstall the Intel 4000 driver, seems OK. Soon as you install the driver again, it happens again. Tried several different versions(old, new, beta), tried different operating systems. Obviously they should not have released the laptop to resellers in this condition. Now I am stuck with a sleek-looking brick because Lenovo tells me to contact Newegg for a replacement, Newegg tells me they won't take it back since the Operating System has been reloaded. This is the SIXTH Lenovo that has had issues right off the bat, their Quality Control is obviously incompetent or does not exist. There is a reason they have the most inexpensive products when you do a search for a PC. You get what you pay for rings true in their case.

Other Thoughts: I can't see myself giving them a 7th chance. Something ain't right here.

1 out of 5 eggsFLY YOU FOOLS!!!

Pros: Very slick/sleek looking

Cons: 1. When the battery drains down to 20% - wifi performance tanks
2. Under 10% of battery left - it will shut the wifi OFF completely - and will not turn it back on. There is no physical wifi switch - it's software operated - but is not easy to access.
3. The USB 2.0 ports intermittently stop working.
4. My power-management utility stopped charging the battery fully. It would only charge up to 50% and would not charge the battery more.
5. Tech-support addressed the battery not charging fully problem by having me uninstall the original power management utility and install a new one - now the battery drains in just over 2 hours
6. The touch-pad occasionally causes chrome to crash and immediately reopen.
7. There's a low battery beep that starts beeping when the battery's down to 10%. It's extremely loud and obnoxious. Unlike every other laptop I've ever used - it cannot be shut off. It's part of the BIOS programming and with the new BIOS UEFI software. It's so loud it can be heard over everything. Not only that - it doesn't even stop beeping when you shut the lid - you have to shutdown.

Other Thoughts: If all you want is a "pretty" laptop to sit on your desk - go ahead. You'll probably be fine. But if you want to work off battery for school, work etc - then keep shopping.

I've used laptops for over 20 years and used numerous brands - this is the only one I've ever returned.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: SSD
Backlit keyboard
Speed
Looks great

Cons: Location of USB ports is not ideal being on both sides

Other Thoughts: Overall I love this new laptop. It looks great, is fast and I am not a gamer so I didn't need i7 and a better graphics card that are available on other models direct from the manufacturer.
