1 out of 5 eggsWorst Computer I've Ever Owned

Pros: Kinda of worked at first, yet the slowest computer I owned. Should have been the fastest with the 7 core chip and Nvidia card.

Cons: I have purchased over 30 Asus computers and motherboards over the last 10 years and most are still working. This G75 was the most expensive and lasted only 7 months, then started getting blue and green screens and shutting down without any overheat indication. The computer is now unusable and I had to spend $30 to mail back for estimate on repairs.

Other Thoughts: Depending on how Asus handles repairs on this computer will determine if I purchase or recommend Asus computers in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you are getting a blue screen of death, random shutdown and overheating after 7 months with the laptop. Please try to run System Restore in order to revert the system to the last known configuration. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3675923 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome refurbished machine.

Pros: Big spacious backlit keyboard, decent power for gaming on the go, and a phenomenal cooling system for a laptop.

Cons: The GPU is a bit outdated, not capable of playing with all of the eye candy enabled.

Other Thoughts: This is going to be my entertainment for work trips. Having a high end desktop at home the fact that this cannot play some games on ultra settings does not bother me at all.

Big part of the reason I bought it is because I know it will stay nice and cool during gaming sessions. I have had a gaming laptop in the past that would get extremely warm to touch, and I hated it. Especially when it was on my lap.

The packaging was a bit lacking in the cushion department, but everything was in tact and working fine. If I didn't know any better I would think it were a brand new laptop. Not a single blemish, scrape, scuff, dent, or scratch on it.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When I received the laptop it was in pretty good condition and ran relatively well

Cons: After using it for less then an hour I had to call newegg and try to get my money back because the laptop I received only had a 128gb hdd when they advertise a TB hdd. also I could not activate the asus three month warranty.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to have to go a whole month without my laptop. to say this was an inconvenience would be far too kind.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus repair service is useless

Pros: It's powerful when it works

Cons: Buying refurbished from Asus turned out to be a huge mistake. I've had to RMA the laptop for repairs twice. Once was during the (very short) warranty period, and they fixed and returned it, but they only fixed one of two issues. I decided to live with the slightly crippled machine. The second time it broke completely, however, I sent it in, got a repair quote that seemed to have nothing at all to do with the actual problem, and now haven't heard any response to my query in nearly two weeks, despite calling them every other day.

Other Thoughts: The "on-hold" message on the Asus support line, which I've had the dubious pleasure of hearing repeatedly over the last two weeks, claims that Asus support is rated top-notch. I beg to differ….

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed, for Now.

Pros: The darn thing is powerful and plays any modern game when tweaked to the right settings, most games run just fine on medium to high settings from what I can tell. The design is great, the speakers are very clear and has surprising bass for a laptop. The keyboard is easy to use and if my back-light worked, I am sure I would be impressed with that also.

Cons: The computer drains power like crazy and the battery life is terrible, but for my purposes that was fine because I knew I would always be near a plug-in.

Here is where the real problems begin, the laptop DID NOT come with a sticker with the Windows 8 code on it, nor did it come with any manual or anything, and it was missing a peg on the left side below the screen hinge. When I purchased it roughly 4 months ago I put windows 7 on it myself and lost windows 8 (which doesn't bother me much), everything went smoothly and all worked fine, except the back-lit keyboard. The back-lit keyboard never worked and due to my very busy schedule and lack of a manual I really had no time to look into it and assumed it was just a driver problem. I literally have been so unexpectedly busy that I haven't touched the laptop in 2 months and now that I finally dug into it, I tried fixing the lighting any way I could that wouldn't cause harm, I updated the bios, I tried different versions of drivers, and read and read and read. The light does not come on during the splash screen so I am thinking now it must be hardware related, so there is yet another problem with this product.

Now the real kicker, I realize that I might have only had a 3 month warranty and I am now on my 4th month, I could have sworn this particular deal had a longer warranty but I could have easily confused it with something else (I was looking at many products at the time of purchase, I do remember the free shipping, and I thought I remembered an exceptional warranty). A 3 month warranty is absolutely terrible and I really find it hard to believe I would have purchased a refurbished product with such a short warranty, I could have SWORN the warranty was one of the contributing factors for me when buying this product, but again, I might have been dumb and jumped the gun.

Other Thoughts: I really hope someone from Asus finds this review pulls through with me on this one, if it was indeed a 3 month warranty then that is extremely unfortunate, I purchased from Asus expecting it to be of their usual good quality, every motherboard I have ever had has had no issues. I literally did not have any time to look into this concern until now, and the problems present are problems not caused by me in any way, because as I have said I have barely used it at all, and it has literally been sitting in one spot for 2 months.

Pretty sad that besides one major thing, I absolutely love this product. =[

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very powerful machine

Cons: Packaging is Atrocious, I pack my kids school lunch better then this! No info comes with, a simple print out of the specs would be nice...
Also the notebook has a 90 day manufacture warranty sticker on it, umm yeah totally null and void. Might as well pull that off before you send the product out.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend purchasing extended warranty, especially if the item is refurbished. This was our first ASUS product, we had been hooked on apple even for gaming, but when we killed out little 13 in macbook we decided to get something more appropriate for our needs ( we play world of warcraft daily). Upon taking it out of the box I was highly disappointed in the plasticy look of the screen, I didn't expect it to be as pretty as my mac desktop, but dang lol Next I had to update the driver for the graphics card in order for it to run wow properly, no biggie. But about 3 weeks in it would just shut down in the middle of gaming, okay... then one day it full on turned it self off and would not come back on even plugged in to the charger...what the heck I thought these things were refurbished ie fixed before they're sent out. Ok still in the 30 days sent it back to newegg, be warned RMAs take forever. What got me was the warranty for this is for replacement only, so why in the world dose it need to be inspected? Fine whatever it's free lol So the next one shows up and guess what on the 33 day it did the exact same thing (something had been nagging at me to get the extended warranty but I didn't Arrrgg) Luckily I found an awesome pc specialist near my home that had knowledge of ASUS products, I took it to him and the freakin thing starts right up...what the heck! it appears the graphics card is loose because the graphics are doin so wonky suff when we opens it up. Said if it keeps doing this he'll open it up and tighten everything up. This may have something to do with sub par packaging who knows. Overall it's powerful, but for the price I expected better, prettier graphics. I can't imagine had I payed full price for a new one...I probably would've returned it and got my money back, to be honest I would've if I could've. Still wish I could, I would apply the $950 I payed toward something else that's new, probably another mac (but we really do need a pc for work purposes)

2 out of 5 eggsRefurbished is a crapshoot

Pros: It's a hefty laptop, and the speakers sound pretty good for a laptop.

Cons: Right out of the box, I was getting graphics card glitches (white checkers on half the screen). I thought this was just a fluke due to not having the latest drivers installed, but things just seemed to get worse and worse until I got fed up and returned it.

All the Asus bloatware is really annoying to remove. You're better off doing a clean wipe and install when you get it, but you don't get any disks when you buy refurbished.

I didn't care for the design of the monitor hinge, which seemed clunky and out-of-date.

Other Thoughts: You would think that they would test out the parts before selling something as refurbished but .. sigh. Shipping this back cost me $40, so beware that when you roll the dice, you often pay the price.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst laptop ever!

Pros: Worked for about 7 months, was great when I wasn't RMAing it constantly.

Cons: This is the worst laptop I've ever owned, I had to RMA it around 4-5 times before it actually worked properly, and even then it had a few quirks which were:
Touch pad would cause the mouse to rubber band back to a previous location
The keyboard is terrible and will not register more than 2 keystrokes at a time
The subwoofer would go in to power save mode and then have a 3-4 second delay while playing sound to come back on
The laptop never did hibernate properly
Tt would come back on and go to the login screen but nothing could be typed in the password box, to log back in until a hard restart,
As well as many, many other issues that I would write in my RMA that would never ever get addressed, I finally gave up on their RMA department as they kept making me pay for shipping even if they didn't fix an issue that was previously stated. Now that I'm 7 months in to owning this laptop and it is out of warranty the laptop has started powering off by itself for no reason at all, I checked the temperatures using fanspeed and they are all normal (Around 30 to 50 Celsius from idle to load).

Other Thoughts: I will never ever EVER buy another ASUS product because of how horrible customer support and the RMA department was, this is a complete turn off for me and I never want to deal with ASUS customer service or RMA again, I would suggest staying away as well, because if you have issues, you are out of luck and they will probably NEVER fix your product properly.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed but there's hope

Pros: Fast, Powerful, Beautiful 1080p screen, great cooling, the touch pad is perfect for me despite my undying hatred for anything but good mouse.

Cons: There is a serious problem with this laptop. It works great for about 30 minutes. Then everything says'not responding" things like VLC, Steam and Youtube just freeze and reloading the application or browser do nothing. Only a restart works for another 20-40 minutes. I tried running a memory diagnostic and found no errors. I have performed a system restore to defaults and it just put all the bloatware back on my PC, but in the event that maybe i deleted something important, i left everything on....same problem.
Does ASUS have any solutions for me?
Also, i have yet been able to get to the BIOS. What key do i need to enter before Windows boots? There is no prompt. Also, the subwoofer volume does adjust with the rest of the speakers. I have it disabled for now but the sound quality kind of suffers for it.

Other Thoughts: This only gets two eggs because I believe that all of these problems are fixable; mostly due to software so i shouldn't have to spend money and i have faith in ASUS customer/tech support. Please don't let me down! This laptop have potential for 5 EGGS!
