5 out of 5 eggsAmazing laptop. 3 years plus owner!

Pros: I've had this laptop since when I purchased it back in 2011. Ever since then its been working like a charm. No problems at all that would cause harm to the machine. Fan is quite but can get warm at times.

I currently use SolidWorks, Pro E, CATIA V5, Matlab, Video games, etc no problem. I think I learned but your laptop is always keep it in check.

Would buy again!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsBroken

Pros: Great while it worked.

Cons: I've had nothing but problems with this computer. As soon as the one year warranty expired I began having power issues. I contact ASUS support and I was advised that the motherboard had to be replaced and the process would cost almost $300 total. I agreed to have it repaired since the computer was just over a year old at the time. About 4 months after the initial repair I started to have the exact same problems all over again. I contacted ASUS support and I was told there was no warranty on repairs.

In total this computer cost me approximately $1000 and I barely got a years use out of it. Extremely disappointed in both this computer and ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: Probably the most I have spent on a laptop (I know), tend to stick with desktop builds. It has lasted me well and I'm still using it for work/leisure. It is currently working on geocoding (from external resource) 30 million addresses. No issues in 2 years of regular usage yet and still trucking on.

Cons: Can't complain.

Other Thoughts: Currently installed ubuntu server 12.04 onto it with LXDE for the desktop environment. No issues with wireless drivers/sound not working (can be an issue with some laptops when installing ubuntu).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Purchase

Pros: -Good specs for the price
-Beautiful screen
-Stylish Design

Cons: -Probably low end speakers, even on high, it's a little quiet.

Other Thoughts: After around a year of ownership, I believe this laptop was a great investment to me. I occasionally game, and the 540m may not be able to handle higher end games, but it can run most games I play.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for money

Pros: -Best specs I could find for a laptop under $750 that's not a gateway or msi.
-It has ASUS 1 year accidental warranty which is nice.
-The video card was strong enough to play games such as league of legends; it's hard to find good discrete video cards in lower priced laptops

Cons: -Keyboard layout (keys too small)
-screen resolution
-touchpad (no scrolling)

I had an IBM laptop and the keyboard provided does not compare. Also theres a numpad which squeezes all the other keys and makes it harder to type. I'd prefer a keyboard with no numpad personally.
AFAIK the touchpad does not allow scrolling by sliding you finger on the right side.
I dislike the 1366x768 resolution; but at this price something has to give.

Other Thoughts: I've had the laptop since around June '10, ordered from newegg for 750 at the time. Overall I don't think I could have found a better laptop at this price point and don't regret purchasing this one.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Computer.. Bad Speakers

Pros: Good monitor, stays cool, 750gb harddrive, 6gb ram

Cons: Horrible speaker quality. They are quiet and loses sound quality even at full volume.

Other Thoughts: I like this computer, it runs nicely and looks great.. but being a music lover, I cannot tolerate the built in speakers.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away Linux Users

Pros: Very capable computer. i5 / Nvidia / Good RAM / Big HD.

Cons: Shift + Insert is really Shift + Function + Delete keys, which is not a fast way of pasting.
This laptop SUCKS with Linux due to it having OPTIMUS technology. Optimus tech is two graphics cards, an INTEL and a NVIDIA. The Windows switches graphics cards based on graphics load. In Linux this is currently UNUSABLE! Stay away from this laptop true geeks

Other Thoughts: I would love this computer if it didn't have the INTEL card and only had the NVIDIA card. Lots of weird things in Fedora 15 due to the dual card issue.

5 out of 5 eggsvery good

Pros: -Fantastic specs for the price.
-Stays cool regardless of the situation.
-ASUS warranty
-750gb 7200RPM hard drive
-Too many to name! *see the few cons*

Cons: -the touchpad and buttons are not the best but I have a mouse attached 95% of the time so it doesn't bother me
-some flex in the keyboard but otherwise it's decent
-speakers and LCD are dull compared to most other laptops
-ports are placed very poorly but it doesn't affect performance

Other Thoughts: The performance is simply phenomenal from this machine and at $750 with no rebates involved, this is hands down the best bang for your buck.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: - Fast
- Doesn't get bogged down at all, you can through whatever you want at it.
- Looks neat
- It's ASUS! You know it will last. Built out of aluminum and not the cheap plastic.

Cons: - Gets Extremely hot when doing intense sessions (An underside fan is a good addition).
- Battery life is meh, but I wasn't really expecting any miracles.
- Resolution isn't 1920 x 1080, but the difference isnt anything crazy... looks fine to me.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as an Open Box Item. Needless to say, I see why it was dropped by $180. When I recieved the item, I got a used Hard Drive that had Windows 7.... in Chinese. If you don't know what fun is, try navigating in a different language using symbols. I ended up just using another OS I had lying around and reformatted. Ever runs perfectly fine. No issues.

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop for your money!

Pros: - Great processor and ample memory
- Runs all my games very well, CS:S flawlessly
- Large HDD storage for a laptop
- Great keyboard
- Speakers aren't too bad, at least for a laptop
- Feels durable!
- DAT PRICE!!!
- Best laptop for a college student

Cons: - USB layout: Not convenient placement for a wired mouse. I use a wireless mouse with a tiny USB receiver, so it's a non-issue for me.
- Mouse pad is OK, it's very sensitive so it'll jump around if a part of my finger is barely touching another part of the surface.
- Not an amazing webcam, but I don't use webcams so again, non-issue for me.

Other Thoughts: Even with those slight cons, this laptop is the greatest! Maybe not a desktop replacement if you're a hardcore gamer, but this can certainly play all Valve games and much more! And the specs you're getting for that price, it's the best bargain for a laptop I've seen in a while!

Word of advice: If you see it in stock, BUY IT NOW! These suckers go out of stock very quickly!
