Pros: Running Quickbooks on that machine is a dream. Like said earlier, a fresh install is needed. But, this is an awesome machine for that. The battery time isn't a PB for me.
Cons: doesn't make coffee ;)
Other Thoughts: A lot of power for a really affordable laptop

Rating: 4/5Great Laptop!
Pros: i7 and ATI Radeon HD 5730 Plays Starcraft 2 at highest everything perfectly. It was cheap. Had no hiccups at all, no OS crashes.
Cons: It pretty heavy and too big to fit comfortably in my laptop bookbag. Contrast was a little off but easily fixed by going into Catalyst Control Center. Pretty bad webcam. Awful battery life.
Other Thoughts: Read about the bloatware that came with it, so I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate when I got it. Installed the drivers off the disk and it worked fine ever since. What I think should be the lesson here is that you're buying hardware which is great, the software is awful. If you know your way around computers then this is perfect, if not then get a Mac.

Rating: 5/5Great laptop.
Pros: Good bang for the buck, i7 and HD 5730. Pretty good for games. The keyboard is pretty decent. Also, USB 3.0, which is definitely a plus.
Cons: Not the newer 740qm, but Asus hasn't updated so whatever. Gets hot, but it's primarily from that vent and it's to be expected. Highs of maybe mid 80s for me, usually around high 50s when not playing games. Battery is maybe a bit more than an hour to an hour and a half when browsing the web, but it's not a surprise.
Other Thoughts: I was worried about the resolution on the screen size, but it is actually just fine, like others have said. Lots of dust and fingerprints, but you can just wipe it off. Webcam is mediocre but not a big deal.

Pros: Usb 3 is nice, great speed.
Cons: TONS OF BLOATWARE. Hard drive already partitioned. Overheats and blue screens while playing basic games, such as counterstrike 1.6. Asus is ZERO help on the phone, good-luck reaching them. I literally waited hours. I got tons of beep errors while plaing videos/games. All in all I 100% regret buying this and is currently a paper weight next to my desktop. Thanks asus, you fail.
Other Thoughts: Newegg was great, my laptop came in two days. They where cheaper then there competitors. First time buying from them, I have no complaints. I <3 newegg.

Rating: 5/5Great performer for the money
Pros: - Fast CPU and pretty good GPU, enough RAM - USB 3.0 and eSATA. - HDMI out works great - decent size drive - screen resolution is nice, display looks great! Many say this is a con, but I feel it's a pro, it keeps the games running fast and looking crisp. If the native resolution was higher, gaming would suffer. If you want more res use an external monitor. - has a decent look to it, sure it attracts fingerprints but whatever, that's unimportant
Cons: - Wish apple didn't have the market cornered on MagSafe type power adapters, not a fan of the style of this one - keyboard took some getting used to and I still hit wrong keys now and then, unlike the other 4 or 5 keyboards I use. Could have lost the numpad and made a much better keyboard. - Wish the keyboard was backlit, I would have paid extra - pinch zooming works, but zooming back out doesn't work even though the mouse pointer change says it's trying to. Have not figured this one out. - The internal speakers aren't great.. but who doesn't use headphones? - Bloatware, but the non-essential ones are easy to remove.
Other Thoughts: I've had this for some time, got it back when it was about a c-note cheaper. Still a good deal now if you ask me. I dropped it not long ago and the HD got damaged. So watch out it doesn't have free fall sensor. Thankfully the partition I put my data on was still intact. I ended up getting an Intel X-25M 160G SSD to replace it (why not, perfect opportunity) and it SCREAMS. Plus it gave me an opportunity to re-install Win7 from scratch and re-install the Asus utils selectively.
Conclusion, my cons are not really important ones, which makes all the difference. Love this notebook!! I pretty much use it exclusively for PC Gaming, it hasn't let me down. Runs pretty cool, doesn't get too heavy on my lap with the lap board I have, and is fast. What more could I want?

Rating: 5/5'THE' budget laptop for gamers
Pros: - Core i7 720QM is an excellent processor. 4 physical cores, 8 logical cores with hyperthreading! Hyperthreading is very useful if you encode video, as most software will take advantage of all 8 logical cores. Turbo Boost allows the processor to reach 2.8 GHz for single core tasks. - ATI Radeon HD 5730m is a powerful graphics chip that can run most modern games at high/medium settings and has DirectX 11 support! - HDD is 7200 RPM which means faster loading of data/booting compared to most laptops which still use 5200 RPM. Though it's only 320 GB I'd prefer the faster read/write times, though some may disagree. - USB 3.0 helps to futureproof the laptop when USB 3.0 becomes the standard. -Laptop looks awesome. I really like the mirror finish on the top, though it picks up fingerprints easily.
Cons: - BLOATWARE. When you first boot up Windows expect to find up to 80+ processes running. I recommend reformatting right off the bat and selectively download the most recent drivers from the Asus website. - Sound is great but I wish the volume was a bit louder. Seems a bit low compared to my old laptop, even at max volume. - Touchpad is not that good. Though it offers many features with the drivers installed you will hardly use any of them and the pad seems to frequently confuse your gestures. I've had difficultly having the pad detect something as simple as a finger tap to signal a click. Also you CANNOT click both the right and left mouse button below the touchpad at once! Major con! - Basic laptop functionality such as a volume mute hot key does not work without ATK drivers. Such a basic feature should not need drivers. Brightness adjust however, does work without drivers. -Laptop does get warm when gaming, especially intensive games. Expect 80C+ for demanding games.
Other Thoughts: I went from a 4 year old beat up laptop to this baby and the difference has been mindblowing. I used this laptop for work and also as a side-gaming machine when away from my desktop.
Games I've tested: World of WarCraft, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Street Fighter IV, Batman Arkham Asylum. All games ran excellent (60 FPS average) on High settings with 4x AA applied on all those games besides Street Fighter and Batman. You really don't get much better than that with this price.
Despite a couple of cons, most of them can be alleviated with user adjustments and just some plain old getting used to it. Just be mindful of the laptop temperatures when doing high intensive gaming for long periods of time. Air conditioned rooms help, if not, look into a laptop cooler.
Overall this laptop is highly recommended for gamers looking for a laptop to do work on and have a highly capable gaming machine!

Rating: 5/5Exactly what I asked for.
Pros: This computer does everything I ask for and more. The processor and video card combo alone smashes through any games that I play on ulta/high settings (World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, Age of Conan, Sims 3, Spore, etc. I play my FPS on my Xbox, not PC.)
I thought the facial recognition login was kind of neat, though it takes me longer than it would to type my password in.
So far so good. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck with regards to a gaming laptop, this is about as good as you're going to get. Let's recap: i7 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, 1 gig VRAM dedicated video card and (thankfully) Windows 7.
Cons: It does get a little hot, but no more than my old laptop did in the same area and it hasn't died yet (I paid it forward and gave it to someone I thought could use it.)
The screen and basically the entire computer is a dust, dander, fur, hair, etc magnet. Good thing I don't care about any of that, other than keeping the inside of the thing clean and running optimally.
Other Thoughts: Things you should do: get this laptop, remove the bloatware, then kick tush at pretty everything.

Rating: 5/5GREAT LAPTOP!!!
Pros: Powerful computer for gaming/multitasking with the i7 and 1gb graphic card. NO LAG WHATSOEVER!!! 3.0 USB!
Cons: Keyboard is really awkward so it takes time to get used to. Lots and lots of bloatware. Disappointed in battery life. Fan is very quiet, but kinda hot.
Other Thoughts: Look around for cheaper deals, I coulda bought this for cheaper. Look around every once in a while in newegg for better deals.

Rating: 5/5A fine little performer
Pros: Relatively quiet, eminently upgradable, side venting of heat and good for light gaming.
The i720QM Processor is a nice little workhorse. Nice that it has an USB 3.0 port.
Works right out of the box as an HTPC machine with its HDMI implementation. Audio and video were passed right away, which is something I used to (in the 'Bad Old Days' of 2 years ago) have to grind my teeth with to get to work right.
Cons: A little disappointed that I had to spend the first couple hours burning restore discs (4 DVD's worth) and it gets a bit on the warm side (mid-upper 50's C idle in an air conditioned bedroom, 80C after a little gaming).
I could have used another USB port instead of the Firewire, so a USB Hub is pretty much a necessity.
Other Thoughts: I primarily use this as my bedroom HTPC, a task it performs admirably via the system's HDMI port to an A/V receiver.
I've replaced the internal DVD player with a Sony Blu-Ray (the faceplates swapped easily), the only problem with that was the screw-holes didn't match up. Since it's not getting moved much it hasn't been an issue yet.
I also replaced the 2 2Gig 1066 memory with 2 4Gig 1333 G-Skill SODIMMS I got right here at Newegg (pretty unnecessary, but I like to fiddle) with ease.
A Con, but not with the machine proper, I believe: The HDMI Output gets wonky if you let the machine go into Sleep Mode. A Reboot fixes it (Probably a Windows or Driver issue so that's why I listed it here instead of in the Con area).

Rating: 1/5Alot of Power in a Horrible Design
Pros: HD5730 is somewhat nice for gaming.
Lover the I7 Processor
LED Display?
Cons: This unit is HOT, it runs around 60C at idle and upwards of 87C about twenty minutes into gaming.
The area around the keyboard and mousepad have started peeling. I have called tech support for this and was told the "skin" that was peeling all around the laptop has a strong adhesive and takes alot of pressure to remove, so I was told I would have to pay a ridiculous amount to have it replaced even though it is only three months old with less than twenty hours of use!
The left mouse button has to be pushed rather hard in order to respond.
My DVD drive no longer reads disks after five hours of use. It just clicks and does not spin any disc inserted into it.
Customer support was really poor. I was not aware that the Accidental Drop Warranty (ADW) was only good once. If you drop the laptop you will only get one chance to replace it next time and you pay for it.
Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for lan parties and vacations, it is not used for more than three hours at a time.
To sum things up, I am really upset and would never buy this laptop or brand again
I have owned this laptop for three months and I am already trying to sell it to switch brands. Maybe I just got a malfunctioning unit and just so happened to get the worst customer support or ASUS has gone sour, but I know I will not be buying another product from them again.
Products from all manufacturing are going torwards throw aways, but this going to far.
