Looking for a good gaming laptop then buy this right now!
- Pros: The number one pro for this laptop is the price. I guarantee you will not find the parts and power this laptop has for anywhere near a better price. This laptop has a lot of power. It's got a great processor, a very decent VGA for a laptop, and 4 gigs of ram. Windows 64-bit uses all of the ram and it runs very quickly and smoothly. This laptop has a button that you can hit that overclocks it instantly and this is a very cool feature. Also, you can have the webcam simply recognize you to log-on which seems pointless at first but you get used to using it very quickly.
For a powerful laptop this thing cranks out hear and has a nice large vent that helps to get rid of that heat very well. I've played a few games such as COD on this and they run perfectly. This also is a full keyboard with a number pad which I find handy at times. Also asus includes a very nice warranty for no extra cost. 2 years and 1 year accidental damage which would cost you hundreds elsewhere.
- Cons: Alright a lot of these cons are not drawbacks to me personally but I feel they are worth mentioning: for a 15.4" laptop this is a bit bigger than you'd expect. There is about an inch wide border going all the way around the screen that makes it a bit bigger. Also, the looks may bother some. There is a republic of gamers logo that pops up all over this laptop, but is just a small symbol. Some people may not care for the orange and black looks, I think it looks amazing. This is also a fingerprint magnet but newegg includes a cloth for this that cleans it extremely well.
Another big drawback is the battery life. I will almost always have this rig connected to the wall but for people looking for a transportable gaming machine the battery life is about an hour and a half.
- Other Thoughts: Overall this laptop is amazing. It has similar specs as compared to laptops that are up to double the price. It looks awesome, runs and handles anything you can think to do, and packs a lot of power for a portable device.
The one big con is the battery life, but this is to be expected with a gaming laptop. If you are considering this then I would say go ahead and just get it, I've been nothing but happy with it. It has plenty of USB ports, an hdmi port, very decent speakers, and even a built in sub-woofer on the bottom. It's very sleek and has a lot of great features. One last thing to mention is expressgate..this is a feature that allows you to boot up the computer in about 10 seconds and you can browse the internet and use instant messengers as well as skype and a few other programs. Very useful features for simply checking your emails or messaging friends without waiting for the laptop to boot up. I very highly recommend this laptop it is truly an amazing laptop for the price.
I got the X2 but these are the same compter
- Pros: Blazing fast, does all you want and more then more on top of that! Great bang/buck here does all my work for school has a great battery life Honestly 2.45hrs on battery saver mode WOW. High res screen, does gaming everything on high with a decent res and no aa. great for desktop replacement, or college PC. 64bit os 9800GS 4gigs ram impressive by todays desktop standards
- Cons: No bag if I had to complain about anything. no external sound control, and I guess no mouse but eh who care. this is a great laptop you won't regret.
Oh no vista cd only a recovery disk , but I have an extra windows cd from clublive so no biggy
- Other Thoughts: Great laptop not too big not too small all I need and yes does great for college, when taking note I turn off the bluetooth and wifi to give me some very decent battery life and when I need to look up something pop it's on. stays much cooler than my old Dell 6000 laptop
if you want a computer that will still be able to do more than struggle with youtube videos in 4 years get this laptop! oh an newegg any chance you can start selling the 9 cell battery for this puppy?

Great gaming laptop
- Pros: Excellent performance. Good screen quality. Plays GTA IV in native resolution at a framerate equivalent to what I got with an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ and a Radeon 4850 1GB, 2 GBs RAM, Win XP. How that's possible? I think the computer in the old system severly hindered performance. Plays Fallout 3 well with good settings. I don't think anything newer will run at Max settings, but Half-Life 2 runs with all max settings and native resolution with nary a hiccough. All in all, I'm very pleased with the performance.
- Cons: To be expected, but poor battery life. If I'm playing a game, such as Fallout 3, without the laptop plugged in I get about 45 minutes of juice. The built-in speakers are quiet. Really quiet. The sound quality isn't bad, but at its loudest I cannot hear a movie if I have a fan on, or the windows open. Invest in a good set of headphones and you'll be fine though.
- Other Thoughts: Many people complained that this computer came pre-installed with 32-bit Windows Vista, but my computer came preinstalled with 64-bit.
A solid laptop.
- Pros: Good amount of RAM, decent CPU and GPU. Many flashy bells and whistles like blinking LED lights and a digital display screen above keyboard that shows miscellaneous statistics like memory/CPU usage. Plays Armed Assault and all my Steam games a lot better than my desktop.
- Cons: The GPU runs a little hot even while in idle (Around to 50-55 degreed Celsius), even hotter while gaming. I had to buy laptop cooler so I didn't accidentally kill my investment prematurely.
ASUS also formatted the HDD into two partitions which I found annoying, they encrypted the second partition for use with their data protection software (Much like TrueCrypt). Anyways, it's probably a plus for those who have naughty things on their hard drive, but I just find it annoying because ASUS didn't give me the option to choose to have an encrypted partition and TrueCrypt is so much more better...
- Other Thoughts: I had this laptop for good 2 months now, didn't act up on me so far. I mainly use it for gaming now as it puts my desktop to shame. As I said before this notebook runs hot while gaming, definitely get a laptop cooler for it! I got Antec notebook cooler and I see a significant change in temp (Around 10-15C difference).
Great laptop but...
- Pros: top of the line components, everything is fast
- Cons: wireless connection fails once every half an hour or so. It won't reconnect again unless I restart the machine. Max time it stayed online is about 1 hour. Tried with the ASUS driver, then Intel, called ASUS tech support, did full system restore, that didn't help. They also said I should take the battery out and leave it for half hour without any power just in case there was some static electricity.
That didn't help either.... I am tired of restarting it every 30 minutes
- Other Thoughts: I like the laptop but this wireless card is ruining it . I had the Asus M50 before this one, never had any issues. I don't know if I am going to go with Asus again unless I find a way to resolve this issue
