3 out of 5 eggsGood performance but the hardware seems low quality

Pros: Nice gaming performance and the screen is nice and high-res. Perfect for video editing as well as gaming

Cons: Its fan isn't by far the best cooler, doesn't last for more than 6 months, I had to send it in for a replacement. Its not easy finding replacement fans for this machine as its not common on auction sites.

Be a little aware of this problem as the fans might be low-quality ones.

4 out of 5 eggsfor schooling an some gaming

Pros: this is an amazing machine i had it for about a month and a half it runs very smooth. The price was amazing for all the other computers with the same performance.

Cons: the rubber feet on the bottom tend to fall off and are easily lost. i have contacted Msi to get new ones and they said that they cant guarantee that they will sent me new ones.

Other Thoughts: windows experience index ratings:

Processor: 7.0
RAM: 7.3
Graphics: 6.6
Gaming graphics: 6.6
Primary hard disk: 5.8

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Computer

Pros: I spent approximatively 3 months looking for a suitable laptop because both my school laptop that I had for over 5 years and my prehistoric desktop with a few upgraded parts were spitting out their last few RPMs. My expectations (i5-520M or better, 15.4-15.6 inch screen, webcam, 500gb harddrive, and Graphics card that would let me play WoW and eventually Starcraft on high settings were blown away with these lovely specs:
-i7 obviously
-I can play Starcraft 2 seamlessly on ultra graphics settings with 30-34 fps, on low however I have solid 60 (the graphics card caps it)
-7.1 channel sound output makes my 6 speaker system sound exponentially better
-bluetooth was an added bonus because I can wirelessly sync to my phone and get internet wherever I am!
-A gaming mode in which it automatically boosts the core clock from 928Mhz to 1600mhz
-The laptop itself looks great, the red and black are really good looking.

Cons: I really wanted a 7200 rpm harddrive. Also, the right shift key is noticeably small, but just takes some getting used to. Last, I bought a cooling pad for late nights in Azeroth just to be safe, not because it was getting ridiculously hot, but thats my idea of an insurance policy. I did buy a 3 year policy with accidental coverage from etrade for a little less than 200 dollars because I am an overall clumsy person; we'll see how that turns out.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I have been very pleased with this laptop. Still waiting for the $100 mail-in, but even without it, I would probably still have gone with this laptop. At home, I typically hook up the laptop to my 24 inch monitor and use a razer keyboard and mouse, but the keyboard and touch pad has really started to grow on my, something I didn't expect at all. MSI has really impressed me with this computer and I look forward to buying more products from them.

3 out of 5 eggsfirst try

Pros: Great speed , nice screen. Bloat ware is at a min.
I really liked the laptop as soon as I opened the box. The design is not for everyone but I like it.

Cons: Well here is where the fun started, I get the power on, load the operating system, but wait, the mouse it jumps everywhere. Yes , try install anything with out a mouse and your at a struggle. The vert control of the touch pad did not work at first, then after a few min it works, then it goes crazy again and your back to square one. I called MSI and they said it was a drive issue, so they sent me a link to the drive to install, but it did not help. So I got the idea to use an external mouse, heck that even when crazy after an hour, no vert control, you could move it side to side but not up and down.
So the guys at MSI say to send it back. So I did and I await the response. New Egg was pretty easy to deal with they said , here is your RMA and UPS slip, just send it back and we will give you a new one. So at this point I am waiting.

Other Thoughts: Everyone so far has been pretty nice, MSI and New Egg, but I have to wonder what happens next, will the one they send me work or will it not, maybe a new problem, but I have used New Egg over the years and they have been very easy about everything. This is by far the biggest problem I have had from anything New Egg has sold me, but how could they know it was bad. So like I said, I wait...well my wife is waiting for her Christmas present to work, it was my present to her, I feel pretty bad about it, since it is her first laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsCapable at an unbeatable price

Pros: 1. CPU. This is the cheapest i7 I've found for the price. However, it's worth noting that Sandy Bridge technology will cut the prices in Q1 2011, so consider waiting.
2. Resolution. At 16:10, it's gorgeous to hook up to a LCD.
3. Dedicated graphics card. Not the most efficient or energy saving, but a NVIDIA GTS 250M will get the job done. It's comparable to the ATI Radeon 5650.
4. 9-cell lithium ion battery will churn out a maximum of 4 hours with minimum brightness and basic application use. More liberal eco settings for applications outside of gaming last about 3. Gaming lasts less than 2. Overall, I'm pretty pleased at battery life as I will be chugging it along for college (the weight, not so much).
5. Touchpad and lighted buttons. Touchpad is responsive, and the lighted buttons are quite useful with switching to different Eco modes as well as playback buttons.
6. Lack of bloatware. Good restraint, MSI.
7. Blu-ray player, but no playback software (counterintuitive?)

Cons: 1. The keyboard is disastrous. MSI does not know where the Ctrl key is (switched with the Fn button). The lessened space for backspace, enter and other buttons make the keyboard look like it stuffed too many obese black rectangles and slapped on white labels. The only redeeming quality is the numpad.
In addition, for me the touchpad kept interfering with typing, but Fn F3 disables the touchpad.
2. Garish. Think good ol' red Star Trek uniforms. Party of mismatched stickers on the side, along with red and white labels for wasd keys. If a gamer can't figure out where they're at, they really shouldn't be anywhere close to a functioning machine.
3. Display. Although the resolution is great, it could use more saturation and contrast. Luminosity is average, and it looks slightly washed-out.
4. Tinny sound out of speakers, but Realtek surround is decent in earphones.
5. Keyboard not backlit.
6. 5400 rpm. Doesn't make much of a difference though.
7. Weight, but decent for a gaming laptop

Other Thoughts: For anyone interested, here is the windows experience index:

Processor: 6.9
RAM: 7.3
Graphics: 6.6
Gaming graphics: 6.6
Primary hard disk: 5.9

Generally, I am quite pleased because I knew exactly what to expect. All the shortcomings can be solved with more money: a LCD screen, gaming keyboard, decent earphones, etc.

But at this price, its specs can't be beaten. The reason I docked an egg was mostly because of disappointing display and nonsensical keyboard arrangement. Those who can overcome its flaws should definitely take a spin for its money.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat after some work

Pros: Fast, decent price, average video card specs. light weight and good size - not clunky. Display looks exceptional, coming from lower resolution laptop this is much better. I was put off by a lot of the pictures I saw online and was expecting the red glossy area above the keyboard to glow when powered on -- thank science it does not.

Cons: As soon as I un-boxed this and moved over steam games and some other games I started playing. Within 10 minutes there was a strange stutter/pause for roughly 1-2 seconds. Sound continued on fine without stutter but video hung and input was completely ignored for the duration. This occurred at seemingly random intervals and I started googling.

Turns on the WD hard drive inside is NO GOOD. I am usually a WD fan and have about 10 of their drives scattered in different things but this drive is junk. I replaced it with a spare Samsung I had and the problem went away entirely. Stutter free.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to get this laptop, be sure to have another drive or be prepared for random stuttering/pausing. I was planning on getting an RMA and spending another 400 bucks on a Clevo but after the HD swap I feel this will be a really good laptop with outstanding performance.

*note* it wasn't just in games the stuttering occurred, however it was the most noticeable during game play of any kind.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best gaming laptops at $800 price point

Pros: 1650x1050, 9 cell batt, core i-7, 1gb dedicated graphics card all for $800... need I say more? this thing screams no matter what I throw at it. Runs all my games without lag and is really smooth. Makes the gameplay experience so much better. I've played old games such as Crysis and CS: Source without issues along with newer ones such as COD perfectly fine as well.

Cons: isn't free?
