3 out of 5 eggsGreat product!

Pros: - Connects to my router effortlessly and fast to my windows 8.1 pc.
- Connects through PCI E so I dont have to give up a usb port.
- Always my desktop to game or stream anywhere in my house. (Don't ask why)

Cons: I originally had tried installing this on my 4 month old windows 7. But for some reason in wouldn't install correctly. It looked as if the drivers installed (and i tried tons of different driver versions) but the computer couldnt use them. I bought windows 8.1 and installed a fresh copy. Suddenly it worked great! I know its a pain, but if youre having problems with this product and dont mind doing a fresh install of your os. Try it, worked for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for your review.

We are glad to see that this was easy to set up for you.

These devices should be able to work on Windows 7 fine, and the driver for them can be found on our site at: http://www.tp-link.us/support/download/?model=TL-WDN4800&version=V1#tbl_a

Thank you for checking out TP-Link and we hope that you will be able to check out more of our products in the future.

Best Regards!

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: It work great for the first month

Cons: Drops connection at least twice every hour. Tried different PCI slots and nothing improved. Tried reducing the distance to the router and still no improvement. This card simply doesn't do it's job.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: Has very high Mbps

Cons: Honestly, I got this adapter and it was working great for about the first month or so I had it. Then when I booted my computer one day, it just didn't work. I called their support, they didn't want to RMA, and of course I got someone in India. I have no problems with people in India but she wouldn't budge and agree I needed a RMA. I had tried every PCI slot on my motherboard and it still wasn't working. I asked for a manager and she said she didn't have one. I asked as politely as I could if there was someone in the states I could talk to, she said just to call until I got them because they don't have their own number. After the third time I got someone in the US, I explained my problem and he immediately agreed I needed a RMA. Well, even after the second one it didn't work on any slots. Wouldn't work on my friends computer either.

Other Thoughts: I dropped extra money into this thing for the high Mbps but it never worked, very disheartening. I didn't even try to get another new one after the second one because it was such a hassle.

4 out of 5 eggs5GHz only works when TP-Link utility is enabled

Pros: very fast when I figured out how to make it work on the 5GHz band, full 5 bars 85-90% signal strength

2.4 band works fine as well.

Cons: took awhile to figure out how to connect to the 5GHz band.

Other Thoughts: for some reason Windows won't connect to my 5GHz router when security is enabled, so to connect to the 5GHz band WITH security (WPA/WPA2) I had to download the TP-Link utility, then I manually connect through the utility when I start up my computer. It is somewhat of a pain, but the extra speed and low traffic make it worth the hassle.

1 out of 5 eggsRandomly stops working.

Pros: When it works, it works well. High speeds, and ironically it will pick up on signals quite strongly. Why is this ironic? Read the Cons. Another pro, it exists. They aren't common anymore. And I don't like external USB Wireless-NICs.

Cons: This thing will -- about twice a week -- seemingly stop recognizing all Wireless signals if I plugin a USB device (but not every time. Maybe 10% of the time). A scan of available networks reveals zero listed even if I'm 1 ft away from my router. Also, every other device (laptop, phones, tablets, ps3) remain connected to the router and the internet, without interruption.

Depending on the position of the moon (I can only assume) there are 3 ways to fix this problem. Only 1 will work each time, and it's never the same. Sometimes it's as simple as disabling/re-enabling the device. Sometimes it's going into the device manager and uninstalling the device and re-installing it (this may or may not require a system reboot). The third way is uninstalling everything related to this card (uninstalling any software, uninstalling the device itself, and deleting any drivers you have), then installing the driver/software again (keep it handy!), reboot, and it'll work. For a few more days anyway, til you need to sync your iPod or charge your wireless [insert peripheral here].

Other Thoughts: I hope it's just a defect. Nothing else on my computer is affected like this. I would place blame on my motherboard except that it's only this one device, doesn't matter the PCIx slot.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreciate your review.

One suggestion is to update or reinstall the driver for this device if you haven't already done so.

You can find the driver on our website at: http://www.tp-link.us/support/download/?model=TL-WDN4800&version=V1#tbl_a

You may want to physically try a different port on the Motherboard if possible. If this fixes the issue then we can safely determine that it is that PCI port.

We recomend that you only install the Driver and leave out the TP-Link utility.

This is so that your Utility doesn't conflict with the Windows configuration utility.

If you have any issues or concerns then feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed

Pros: Nice and small card, comes with a second bracket for smaller cases, miniCD for drivers and TP-Link software. I was replacing a 5+ year old Dynek card that was only getting 0.32Mbps. Installed, ran the miniCD, connected to my network (using the included software) and have not thought about it since. Getting 5/5 bars all the time, no issues running Diablo 3, uTube, or anything else. IP Speed test comes in at 28-30Mbps.

Cons: It was not free?? Easy install, easy to use software, works as advertised.

Other Thoughts: My system sits in my basement, so I have lots of medal (heating system, duct works, pipes, etc), and I still get 5/5 bars with the 3 antennas.
