5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link never fails me!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: I owned the lowest tier TP-Link PCI-E adapter and it served me well for 5 years. It is still functioning but I purchased this one because it is dual band and it was on sale for 25 bucks.

- Doubled speedtest result from 36 Mbps to 78 Mbps
- Steam download went from peak of 4.5 to 7.9 MB/s
- Was extremely easy to install.
- 5Ghz is amazing

Cons: I see more wireless networks now ;)

Other Thoughts: Although I owned this for just one day, I am confident that it will not some how fail in the next week or so. Took me maybe 10 minutes to have everything installed and that's a great sign. Works great for WIndows 8.1

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: For those having connection issues with the TP-Link WDN4800 I found a site: https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=38&system=8
with an updated atheros driver for Windows 8. I scanned with virustotal and everything looks okay. I made sure I backed up my computer the updated atheros driver and no more disconnects on my 5ghz network. It was driving me nuts, because Windows 8 would not reconnect to my 5ghz network and I looked everywhere for solutions to this problem. This driver fixed it for me.

Cons: Nothing except the drivers mentioned above. The driver from the tp-link website is ancient so I tried the updated atheros driver from an unofficial site and now everything works beautifully!

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: -Fast
-Reliable
Easily recognized by Windows 8.1 pro

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: I have two of these cards for two of my computers and I love this wifi card. It gets the job done and the TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 gives me a solid connection from 25+ feet. My router is on the second story.. I'm running Windows 8.1 pro and I had zero issues with this card. Windows recognized it and it works right out of the box. You can download the updated driver from 2014 from the main website, but the W8 driver is good enough.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Performance, Good Price

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: This NIC hangs onto a signal like a hound, once you get the antennas oriented well. It has never dropped out on me, and it works just fine with default drivers. I picked the high-speed option because there is no RJ-11 jack in the room where my computer is, and this works quite well; this is not going to be a bottleneck for the average user.

Cons: The antennas are very directional; if they aren't oriented just so, my connection strength drops by a large margin. This might be my location in the corner of a room, but I'm not the only one who has noticed this.
The software that TP-link pushes you to install has been known to cause intermittent connection issues for some people.

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely Unreliable Quality Control

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Fast speeds and doesn't lose much of it even though it's a wireless card, but only when it's working.

Cons: Random disconnects and seems to be unable to maintain a 5G connection consistently. Also random decreases in speed.
Random increase and decrease of signal. It can go from five bars to two in less than a second and with no explanation.
Quality control. Based on the reviews, the company seems to be selling more than a few defective cards to customers.

Other Thoughts: One would like to think a company would at least try to manage quality control on one of its better products. I'm going to try and exchange it for a non-defective model to see how it works. However, I would skip this product and search for something with more consistent reviews.

4 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Installation is simple and fast.
Software included is comprehensive, and easy to use.
Reception is great using the 2.4ghz chanel
Works as intended; 2 in 1 wireless to power all of your devices, including gaming consoles and streaming devices. Docsis 3.0 will be compatible with future ISP speeds.

Cons: 5 ghz channel (See other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: Not sure why, but the signal strength is is 3/5 bars 10 feet away from the unit. I'm not sure if there is some kind of interference where I am, or if I need to change the 5ghz channel. Other than that, the unit is flawless. Having weak signal strength ten feet away from the unit is enough to doc one egg.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Easy installation since Windows 8.1 downloads drivers automatically.

Cons: I must be unlucky because this adapter gets half the download speeds of my much cheaper TP-WN781ND despite better specs and three antennas. I tried using many drivers and moving the antennas and it just can't beat a 15$ adapter. Now my computer is far from my router, so the connection isn't great, but I was expecting at least an improvement.

Other Thoughts: I'm getting a refund for this unit. Maybe it was just defective but I'm not going to waste time by getting a replacement that could be just as bad.

4 out of 5 eggsA definite buy!!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: The installation process was simple. It pulls 72 mbps thru walls at 25 feet away. Excellent reception!

Cons: I wish it was just a bit less expensive. But still well worth the money.

Other Thoughts: The guys at one of the big electronic stores only sold the USB plug and play type receivers. Said it was "just as good". Not! It streamed at 5mbps. This card streamed at 72.5mbps. It saved me from having to run a network wire across the house to the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Pros: Has worked for my hackinstosh build on both mavericks and windows 7. Is not plug and play for Windows 7, you have to install the drivers of which you can download from a website and put them in a usb if you do not have a cd drive. IS plug and play for hackintosh, or at least it was for me using mutlibeast 6.5. Price is as it should.

Cons: Antennas if moved around slightly become unscrewed. This is the only con and the fact that they are big and 3 that make it hard to access the back peripherals of a mobo if placed in the top pcie slot. either way its not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: Great for Hackintoshers and regular desktop users who don't want to have all the cables that belong to a modem and router on your desk or room.
