5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget Router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Works consistently without any failures.

Cons: Only 100 Mbps, but I knew that before buying.

Other Thoughts: Good simple routes that has tons of options for a stock model. Most importantly, it has been running for months without a hiccup.

5 out of 5 eggsrock solid

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: These are such great routers, I've purchased 3 of these units over the years to expand my homes WIFI presence.

Cons: I flash these units with DD-WRT and they work great, but you only get about half the bandwidth as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance/Value

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Cheap.
Inexpensive.
Ok but seriously, what a value buy!

Easy set up (5-minutes)
Fast speeds (pulling 30Mb/s on SpeedTest.net vs 15Mb/s on previous router)

Cons: NMone thus far

Other Thoughts: I bought this router because it was only $20, if it didn't work great, I wasn't losing much money. Compared with previous routers I've used (Linksys, Western Digital, NetGear), this blows them all out of the water. I bought two of them and plan on making the second one an access point. As it stands, this has already far outperformed my expectations and I didn't even get around to putting DD-WRT on it yet.

My use case is with a Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Modem w/ Comcast (50Mb/s).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for OpenWRT

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Bought 2 routers to setup a WDS system. Mine were v9.1. Easy upgrade to OpenWRT. Now I have great WiFi, and a wired connection to the network from the remote router.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: This would be perfect for extending Wireless into the backyard, or to set up a neighborhood mesh network, and at $20 a pop, it's almost nothing for what you're getting with this router + OpenWRT

5 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK PRODUCTS WORK WELL TOGETHER

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Works well with my other TP-Link router and switch. My is hardware version 8.4 and bought it to work with my hardware version 7.2 router. Also using TP-Link 8 port switch. I was have down-time problems with my LinkSys WRT54G router but everything is working now after going to all TP-Link hardware.

Cons: None yet.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: I bought 2 of these and I'll tell ya.... talk about easy to set up and it has like 3 times the range my Belkin router did. I can be all the way down the street and around the corner with my tablet and am still watching Netflix with no worries. When I hooked it up it ran, didn't walk to jump straight on the internet! Very nice I give it a whole dozen eggs!! =Newegg Does Not Mess Around!!=

Cons: I have found nothing to complain about with this router... and I looked for some

Other Thoughts: you just can't beat the price, it is a good build, not cheaply made and it works fantastic... have them running now for about 4~5 months flawlessly! Thanks Newegg... you find all the good stuff!!

4 out of 5 eggsNice little unit

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Works great.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: This is a cheap unit. It came bundled with a cable modem. I had a client that needed a new modem and router. This bundle worked perfect. It offered all of the features they needed and they get great signal. They live in a 2000 sq/ft ranch style house. The router is in the basement.

1 out of 5 eggstl-wr841n Sucks

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Cheap. Newegg shipping is always awesome.

Cons: . Sometimes it won't work on one PC but does on others.
I can ping Google but can't get a browser to go there.
I have 3 machines, (2 PCs and a PS3) that connect great all the time. I have 3 other PCs that have constant issues getting or staying connected. All simultaneously. All devices worked perfectly on my old Netgear.
Wish I didn't have to give it a single egg but one is the lowest.

Other Thoughts: My last router was an Netgear WNR 2000 and was plug and play, idiot proof connectivity.
I work in a data networking environment and this router is more hassle than anything I deal with on the job.
AVOID THIS UNIT.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to review our Router.

If you haven't already then I would suggest trying to upgrade the firmware to this device: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?categoryid=&model=TL-WR841ND#down

This can help improve the performance as our firmwares are updated to fix any known bugs or issues.

I would also try checking the DNS settings on the WAN.

Some of the issues you are experiencing with browsing maybe related to this.

A common stable DNS server is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

It is hard to determine where the issue maybe coming from and more data maybe helpful in the trouble-shooting of this device.

If you would like to contact our 24 hour technical support team then you may do so with the number listed below.

You may also reach out to me directly with any issues or concerns at howard.he@tp-link.com.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Inexpensive Router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Current shipping hardware version is 9.1. This is supported by DD-WRT build 25203 which is very easy to flash and seems to work well. I have a number of these routers in various configurations, but none are running on the original TP-Link firmware.

Cons: This is the version with the fixed antennas, so if you break one, you're pretty much out of luck. For a few bucks more, you can get the WR841ND which has the standard detachable antennas.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I think it's pretty hard to beat. I haven't had any issues with signal strength or random disconnects, and have used these in a number of different environments.

1 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR841N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: Fast shipping from Newegg; easy setup - no more than 5 minutes

Cons: While the WR841N detected the internet and quickly provided a connection, IT WOULD NOT STAY CONNECTED. I am running Windows 7 64 bit, the exclamation would show up within 1 - 2 hours, sometimes less. I had to reset (power on and off) this router in order to reconnect to the internet. Check to a firmware update and it was up to date and all the settings are correct. VERY FRUSTRATING. Most of the reviews were good that it why I got it. I guess the one I got was in the one egg category.

Hooked an old "B" router and it maintained an internet connection for 2 days. So I know it is not my service provider.

Will be contacting Newegg for resolution.

Other Thoughts: If it was not for this serious problem I would have given it a 5.
