ASUS USB-N66 Dual-Band Wireless-N900 USB Adapter

The Most Powerful USB Network Adapter

The ASUS USB-N66 Dual-Band Wireless-N900 USB Adapter delivers high-speed wireless performance up to 450 Mbps in a patented orthogonal antenna design that amplifies signal strength coverage up to 150% and enhances stability. USB-N66U_right It's supported by Windows, Mac OS, and Linux platforms and can be switched into an access point to wirelessly connect devices to it.

Dual-band transmission for lag-free entertainment

With MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology, the USB-N66 provides up to 450Mbps high-speed transmission for smooth video streaming and high-performance networking. Dual-band operation connects to the 2.4 GHz band for basic tasks like Web browsing while the 5 GHz band lets you perform more bandwidth-intensive tasks like online gaming.

Specialized Antenna Design

The patented 3-point orthogonal design is unique and modern in appearance but also delivers a substantial increase in wireless connectivity enabling faster data throughput and an expanded signal range. While most routers have a flat linear line for optimal signal, the USB-N66 antenna shape delivers more of an arc-shaped area of signal coverage giving you an increased optimal range of connectivity for devices throughout your network.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat except with Windows 8.1

Pros: 1. Good design
2. Cheap
3. USB
4. Looks nice

Cons: 1. Drivers are not that bright
2. Support seems lacking
3. Utility is useless

Other Thoughts: First of all I had Windows 8 and upgrade to 8.1, after that it went from using the ASUS driver to the Windows driver which did not work with the 5ghz channel, it didn't show one! I have seen this before when trying the MediaTek (Ralink) drivers but wasn't sure why it occurred. Now in 8.1 I couldn't get the ASUS driver to install so was stuck with no 5ghz channel, absurd. I went to MediaTek hoping they maybe had updated their drivers from last time and installed the Ralink RT3573 ones. Sure enough it worked! Now I have both channels again, however this is still silly. How can you now know your device has issue like this and release a new driver? Besides that this is the Ralink RT3573 chipset so why the heck didn't the MediaTek drivers work the first time I tried them before they were updated like now? It should have! What did you do to this adapter guys?

2 out of 5 eggsThe Same Thing

Pros: It works well.

Cons: It has barely more coverage range than that of an adapter that I bought for 10 bucks, save yourself the money and just get a cheaper one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat USB Network Adapter

Pros: Overall I like this device very much, and am happy I purchased it.
-Stylish, yet small, cool accent lights!
-Great speeds compared to a cheaper dongle
-Dual Band

This was very easy to set up. I like using the Asus software, some people don't, but I think they make nice stuff. Speeds are faster compared to my old dongle that I had. The old one kept dropping the connection for some reason, and purchasing this cleared that problem right up.

Cons: I knocked an egg off because I don't really see any difference between the high power and low power mode. Seems like a marketing gimmick to me. I even hooked it up using a USB Y cable so I could plug it into two ports in case it was a power issue, but still no affect on signal strength. The signal strength isn't bad, 85%, but I figured high power would boost it to around 100%.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this adapter for anyone who isn't planning on upgrading to wireless AC anytime soon.

5 out of 5 eggsNot a single drop in the 2 months that I've owned it.

Pros: I'm downstairs from the router and I have a solid connection all day long. I chose asus for this reason, I have much faith in their products unlike a lot of good names gone bad. I use windows 7 built in wireless manager for this tool as I don't like any 3rd party managers.

Cons: I can't think of anything because the price is right and they have a upgraded model if I needed more features.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Happy Works Sometimes

Pros: When it works, everything is great

Cons: Recently upgraded to an i7 Haswell & MSI board from an AMD 939 Opty 180 and Abit board. With the new setup, I frequently have the device drop the connection only to recoonect about 30 seconds later. This happens often regardless of low and high network traffc.

Other Thoughts: Contacted Asus tech support and told them the story of how the device worked ok with the old setup and now not so much with the new setup even though the OS is the same, only the hardware changed. I was asked if I was using an Asus MB and when I said no, I was directed to contact my new MB manafucture MSI as I was then told that it is probably a compatibility issue.

I highly dislike when manufactures point the finger back and forth when you are not exclusively using a single manufacture throughout. What happened to providing updated drives more often. Haswell setups are fairly new, but come on. I'm on the hunt for a new Wireless N adaptor as Asus has now left me with a bad taste.

4 out of 5 eggsY-Cable NOT included.

Pros: 450Mbps connection. Makes wireless file transfers a tad bit faster (~16MB/s) compared to the N53, which I also own. Then again, if you need to frequently transfer files between machines gigabit ethernet is still the way to go.

Cons: Y-Cable not included. For a $80 adapter ASUS is kinda cheap not to include such a cable. The y-cable is need to utilize HIGH POWER mode.

Using standard mode, this adapter is approx. 20ft away from my N66U router and the connection sometimes drops under 350Mbps when downloading a big file or transferring files between computers.
In HIGH POWER mode the connection stays at a solid 450Mbps, but then again purchasing a separate y-cable brings the total cost of this adapter to $90.

Device feels it's made of cheap plastic, feels very fragile and not something I would want to bring with me when I'm traveling. I think the N53 is better suited for that.

Other Thoughts: For a $80 device ASUS should have thrown in a y-cable.

Pros: * solidly connects to my asus wireless ap radio station rt 66u w@/5Ghz from sleep/resume/hibernate I down touch anything its done internet time!
* stable connections too stays connected to rt 66u 5G meaning I don't need to still touch nothing even after reboots/restarts/clear cache nothing!
* my results might mean to upgrade to new Asus routers I have two of them in house one gateway and the other provides radio AP @2.4/5ghz

Cons: * only wish I do more with a laptop wireless usb thing.
* flash it of course. Come on even I have more CPU than to get that moon.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Improvement

Pros: i work in a basement office with the router upstairs. My old adapter continuously had problems with low to poor connection. This adapter immediately made a "very good" 450 mbps connection. Running the many simultaneous programs I use just became much easier. I have very small hands (female) and for size comparison this item fits in the palm of my hand.

Cons: So far, none
