1 out of 5 eggsHad for 1yr 6 months

Pros: None, mine is slow, drops connections, and has lower than average range, its garbage.

Cons: NAS is slow (too slow for streaming movies even 480p), everything is slow, can't handle too many connections (starts to overheat/drop/go slower), worst ASUS brand product I have owned.

DO NOT BUY THIS LOOK ELSEWHERE!.

Other Thoughts: I really thought this was gonna be awesome cause I am a big Asus fan, but its hardly awesome. They should re brand this to a no name brand.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 3 months

Pros: Loaded right up and went to work.

Cons: Unit failed in 3 months and the Asus website is not even remotely set up for returns. In fact they make it impossible and don't even try to call because you get sent to voice mail and told to leave a message to which they never respond.

Thanks to NewEgg for handling this for me.

1 out of 5 eggsThis router WAS great

Pros: Works well in the beginning with good range, speed and features

Cons: After a few months, the range slowly decreases and it starts to drop the connection.

Other Thoughts: When I first bought the router for my father's home, I thought it was great and we both loved all the features. I went off to my fall semester thinking I set him up well, but when I came back I experienced the sad truth. The range no longer reached my room (which it used to perfectly), so I had to set up my computer in the basement, which is closer to the router. This was at about 4-5 months after I bought the router.

Now, it is about 6 months old and I am starting to lose my connection in the basement (which is only about 15-20 feet away from the router). Soon it will be only a wired router, since I am sick of having constantly dropped signal. It is getting to the point where watching YouTube is not possible. Gaming or other applications that require a constant connection are simply no longer possible do to the stutter lag as the router drops signal every few seconds.

All in all, I would suggest you leave this page and find a router that will work longer than 4-6 months. I tried everything from upgrading the firmware to moving my whole entire desk and computer to another room, and the router still fails me. I feel as if Asus has cheated me out of my purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsRouter overheats

Pros: Small router, looks nice, works well when it doesn't overheat

Cons: Over the last 6 months, the router would cut out intermittently. Over the last week, the router overheats almost every hour and the internet dies. I have to manually unplug/replug to reset the router. When I touch the surface of the router, it is VERY hot.

Other Thoughts: I had a 10 year old Linksys router before this, and it had no issues. It only supported a/b/g, but the connection was rock solid.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: Never crashes. Still blazing fast 2 years later.

Cons: Need to keep the firmware up to date (i.e. bleeding edge) to avoid issues with the web interface.

Other Thoughts: I have this on 24/7, and have for the past two years, connecting a server, several wireless clients, and my main machine. The web interface would experience the inability to display correctly on earlier firmware, but has since been fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Router

Pros: Pretty simple review since it just works. I was able to get everything connected easily, and it's worked wonderful for the past 6 months I've had it. Has not dropped a connection once in almost 6 months.

Cons: None thus far. The 5GHZ signal is a bit weak, but I think that's more my house with very thick walls. Apparently 5GHZ does not like going through walls.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 2 years, 1 month

Pros: Fast when it worked. Incredible connectivity range

Cons: Router completely broke down and will no longer load 192.168.1.1 even when using a wired connection. I hit the "reset" button on the back to restore factory default conditions and now it get can't past the welcome screen, nor will it let me browse the web even if using a wired connection.

Days before this I had observed the wireless connection get weaker (5 bars for the past 2 years now down to 2/3 bars), and the wireless internet came to a complete crawl (under 1mbps for download and upload and numerous timeouts). The only way to get the router to a somewhat usable speed was to remove the wireless encryption (brought it to 5mbps/1mbps), wired connections got 120mbps/30mbps.

Build quality is clearly an issue here. Many people below this review are like me and have owned this router for about 2 years and are now experiencing catastrophic failure. This is called planned obsolescence and I will NOT be supporting the ASUS brand anymore.

Other Thoughts: This went from being a fantastic router to a complete rip-off. I have 10 year old routers that still work.

For what it's worth my 2 and a half year ASUS monitor has also broken down on me. It now suffers from extreme light bleed. This company carriers a premium price but their products are not what they used to be.

1 out of 5 eggsToo small overheats

Pros: It worked a few months ago

Cons: It is overheating no and cutting out when it gets hot enough.

Other Thoughts: This is the only router I have EVER owned that has done this. I am very disappointed with it and will not waste my money on an asus router again. EVER..

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router

Pros: Fast, reliable, very good features, easy to set up.

Cons: Range isn't amazing, but that's to be expected without external antennae.

Other Thoughts: I used this as my all-in-one home network device for more than a year with absolutely no downtime. It performs routing, switching, and wireless ap duties quickly, reliably, and tirelessly. Everything was easy to set up, including the port forwarding required for gaming. File server function works, but doesn't reach the potential of USB 2.0. VPN function is incredibly useful and doesn't require a special client (compatible with iOS, android, and Windows for sure). Excellent choice for any home network.

1 out of 5 eggsDies quickly

Pros: Works at first.

Cons: Starts dropping connections after about 6 months to a year. gradually gets worse. by the time the warranty expires, the thing is unusable.

Other Thoughts: No more Asus routers, not worth the premium price for budget hardware.

Manufacturer Response:
