1 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: I love the design of these and they are displayed as art in my business....

Cons: ....when i expanded my business and required another one for the 2nd building i knew what i wanted. a dead wan point 2 days before open was not good. i had to run to a local seller who charges a lot more. disappointed that i got a dead one but it happens....

Other Thoughts: ... how many thousands of asus routers have that connection and you are bound to have some that are bad. will not stop me from buying an asus product or using newegg again.

will rma this today

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT ignore the negative reviews

Pros: Been a problem since I bought it.

Cons: I bought two of these units, one for myself and one for a friend. They both suffered the same issue immediately - dropping the 5Ghz band. Got them RMA'd, and now a year later the piece of junk is randomly dropping connections all the time.

When this router first came out it must have been great according to testing and purchase reviews. But then Asus, as they do with so many of their products, started to cut corners and then the quality went all to hell.

READ the negative reviews BEFORE you purchase this unit.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat router until it starts failing

Pros: It's a fast router with USB ports and a very nice default user interface.
The 2.4GHz band has a great reach however, the 5Ghz does not.

Cons: Started falling apart after 4 or 5 months of use. Even with the lastest Asus firmware, on the 2.4Ghz I had to constantly reboot the router to get it working again, as it would start losing packets (I'd test it using "ping") and Windows would say I had "limited" connectivity. I could not even log into the router to try to troubleshoot. Eventually I started just using my old router since I needed a reliable connecting for working from home.
I think that either it's overheating, or just failing when it has more than 10+ clients connected to it.

This appears to not be an isolated incidents as you can see many reviews detailing similar issues. What a shame for such a supposedly high-end router from Asus.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought as the far side of a wireless bridge on the 5GHz band. Required community-enhanced firmware, but then works great, even when the wired end of the bridge is a different brand. This one sits int he living room about 30' from the other, and the PS4 plugged into it can now download at my full 15Mbps speed, rather than an awful 20kbps using the PS4's built-in 2.4GHz wireless.

As a bonus, the USB port onboard can charge the PS4 controller, when oddly enough a USB-AC adapter can't.

Cons: in-box firmware didn't have the right options for bridging and security

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth & covers more area in my house.

Pros: It is Stylish. My old router (wireless G), that I had for 3+ years could not reach the guest room which is located downstairs. This new router can and it runs smoothly. This Dual band router also runs smoothly for my house where I have more than 5 devices constantly connecting to the Wifi. I have used this new Asus router for 3 months now. It is great and I recommend it.

Cons: The Wifi router is quite easy to hook up. I am not a tech guy, but I can figure out how to set-up the dual band. However, it does take some technical knowledge in order to set-up all the details like password protection and etc.

1 out of 5 eggsWifi internet drops every 20 minutes and unstable

Pros: It's fast when connected directly through LAN

Cons: Devices that are connected via WIFI WAN would lose internet connection randomly. After doing a search on Google for this issue, it seems to be very common.

Other Thoughts: I bought this Router on Black Friday and thought it was a good deal but that was a mistake.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsASUS RT-N56U Review

Pros: This product does not restrict my internet speed and has a huge range. The User Interface is easy to use and holds many features.

Cons: It is not wall mountable. If this is the only issue than this product has done very well.

Other Thoughts: This item looks great on my desk. It has the appearance of a very high-end wireless router. I can see any device connected to my router and their data usage which means i can see if anyone is using the internet too late at night.

2 out of 5 eggsMulticast unfixed for months

Pros: Looks great and is very stable for regular usage.

Cons: Multicast doesn't work, it's been a known issue for months, and it hasn't been fixed even in the most recent firmware released Feb 2014.

What does this mean? Screen sharing, and remote play features on many devices won't work. I didn't even realize this was a problem until I tried playing Spaceteam with friends at home. Man, did I feel dumb when it didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Apparently there was a flaw in the security of the AI Drive feature which lets you access content on a USB connected hard drive from outside of the house. Well, it let anyone, not just you, access that content.
