5 out of 5 eggsWorks with old laptop

Pros: Use this with old Dell csx that has no wireless onboard but does have a USB plug.

Cons: No USB 3.0 speeds. Not really a con as most old laptops do not have USB 3.0 ports anyway.

5 out of 5 eggscannot get this to work on raspberry pi

Pros: works fine on windows based boxes.

Cons: could not get to run this on my raspberry pi... tried all troubleshooting (changing power adapters, connecting to a dedicated powered USB hub). it may not be a problem with this. generally rasp pi is very picky about any usb based hardware - finally ended up getting the NETIS adapter and it started to work just after plugging into rasp pi..

Other Thoughts: as i said, it may not be a con with this device. so giving it 5 stars..

5 out of 5 eggsNice to have around

Pros: Works out of the box with Ubuntu! (so far 1 of 5 different model usb dongles I have used have not worked with Ubuntu without requiring extra driver configuration -> not worth the trouble)

Cons: I do not get as fast of a connection as it seems I should (see 'Other thoughts').

Other Thoughts: I picked up 3 of these at different when twice in the last year they were free after rebate. I did get my rebate despite others reviews saying they had trouble.

I have one of these connected to my office computer at a University Campus because for some reason unknown to me, the ethernet connection for the computer fails unexpectedly (it has happened twice in the last year). For sake of a simple performance comparison, I tested my connection speed using speedtest.net with wired and then wireless using this dongle. The router is a Linksys G router wired to the same switch my computer is wired to.

With the wired connection, I got 85Mb/s down and 89MB/s up. Using this usb dongle, I got 23MB/s down and 21MB/s up. I am not sure why this number is not closer to 54MB/s (I understand that is the theoretical limit of G connection) when obviously my ISP does exceed that but 20+ is plenty fast for normal use.

3 out of 5 eggsNever expect to actually get the rebate

Pros: The device itself works fairly well in a pinch when I don't have a faster one available. Worked right out of the box with Mint 15 too.

Cons: The speed leaves something to be desired for regular use. I've yet to actually perform speed tests with the device and others on my network as a comparison, just seems slower than some of the other 54Mbps dongles I have.

Other Thoughts: What really burns me up though is getting the letter back for the rebate saying the UPC was invalid. The box is destroyed and has no other UPCs on it. Even if there were another UPC on it, there is no time left before the deadline for a resubmission.

5 out of 5 eggsSeamless Install

Pros: -Took out a TP-LINK TL-WN822N USB adapter and replaced my Windows 7 desktop with this Encore ENUWI-G2 adapter. I didn't need the 802.11n for this computer. I plugged the ENUWI-G2 in, 1 minute later, I was back up with internet.

-Free after rebate.

-The adapter itself is a bit blocky and would block an adjacent USB port. Encore provides an extension USB cable for this case.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to use

Pros: Very simple, just needs to be plugged in and it starts working. I had better speed and less problems with this than I did with the built in wifi card in my laptop

Cons: Nothing

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Solid wi-fi adapter.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Got this for free during a special. All I had to do was paying $3 shipping. It is only wireless G, but rarely do I run into an ISP with over 50 Mb/s. As much as these companies can market the latest wireless standard as being "a drastic improvement" or "better gaming", it's mostly garbage. You're more than likely not going to use the 5 GHz band (less range; your device most like doesn't support 5 GHz). And unless your Internet Connection is around 50 Mb/s, you won't need more than wireless G. If you're doing a lot of in-house file transfers, that's different (but then again, I'd just go with wired).

5 out of 5 eggsNice Cheap Adapter Solution

Pros: - Nice Speed
- Nice Signal (30 ft Below router through the floor)
- Price

Cons: - Gets a little warm.

Other Thoughts: Great solution for a very cheap price, (I got it for $10 with $10 rebate.. Free w/o shipping) its a good alternative to getting a PCIE Card.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well on Win 7

Pros: I received this Monday from the latest promotion ($10 - $10 rebate + 2.99 s/h)
and just plugged it into win Win 7 x64 front panel USB port.

It worked fine with the basic Win 7 driver. The driver on the disk was a little newer -
11/05/2009 vs. 3/23/2009 and when I installed that I got a monitor tool as well –
also the activity led did not appear to work with the basic win7 driver. Not reboots were needed!

It is true that this is an old, probably out of production chip, which is also why the driver is so old,
but it works fine.

I have run it for a couple hours each of the last 4 days for a couple hours as the sole internet connection
to my desktop computer, and it gets the full 20mbs down/2mbs up that my road runner account offers to me.

Cons: I does get a bit warm, but uncertain if that is a real concern, as I have several other dongle-like devices that get much warmer - the Google Chromecast is the one that concerns me the most.

Other Thoughts: I was looking for an inexpensive USB network adapter, and this fits the bill as it is inexpensive, due to its age/closeout nature, and works.
