5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: Great value. I've had this router for about two months and the speed was always great. Absolutely no problems so far. Very easy to setup. My Linux desktop, my Chromebook and my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 all had no problem connecting to the wireless network.

Cons: None in general. Easy setup if you follow the instructions but there is no security for wireless by default. You must make sure you go beyond the instructions and actually secure the wireless network.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

Pros: Cheap
Decent range

Cons: Needs resetting daily

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an old linksys wireless G router, it worked great for the first couple weeks, but now it needs resetting every day. It will drop internet on my wireless devices as well as my PC that's wired to it once a day or so.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi BDEP,
I can understand your overall frustration for the connection drops. I am curious if bandwidth is occupied by bandwidth hungry applications when internet drops. If possible, please use speedtest.net to verify your network bandwidth from time to time. As far as wired or wireless connection performance from each station, the task manager can help to understand that. Also, have you downloaded to the latest firmware? Here’s is the link for your reference: http://www.trendnet.com/support/supportdetail.asp?prod=230_TEW-731BR if this doesn’t help then don’t hesitate to contact me at adrian@trendnet.com with ”Newegg TEW-731BR Review” in the subject line and I will respond immediately. Thank you for taking the time to review our product and I look forward to hearing from you to regain your trust in TRENDnet.

Kindest Regards,
Adrian

2 out of 5 eggsdied after about a year

Pros: this router worked great when it did work.. had a couple compatibility issues with wpa but there are ways around that.

Cons: it all started when i went to download a file from the internet, it kept jumping in and out of signal every 5 seconds. thats when i knew it was time to get a new one..wish i got the warranty on it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Andy,

We apologize deeply for this router not working as promised. If possible, please reset TEW-731BR back to the factory default settings and update the unit to the latest firmware, if applicable, using this link : http://www.trendnet.com/support/supportdetail.asp?prod=230_TEW-731BR . 5 out of 5 eggsGood Range For The Price

Pros: * Range is good for a cheap router, the signal is strong and stable enough for streaming HD Instant videos at: about 40ft from the router through 2 Brick walls and a wood one with a decent USB Wifi adapter, 35ft through 1 brick wall and a wood one with my laptop's built-in wifi, and 25ft through 1 brick wall and a wood one with my tablet. The range is about double that when going though just one wood wall. Please note that the HD videos were from an online service, so they were compressed. Therefore they required considerably less throughput then Blueray level HD videos would.
* Range and performance is similar to the TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 router which costs over twice as much, but the TL-WDR3600 has allot more extra features.

Cons: *Does not have a 5GHz band, a 5GHz band is almost useless anyway as the range is less and very few devices use 5GHz.
*Does not have a built in USB server
*Does not have parental control

Other Thoughts: I have owned this router for about 6 months and I haven't had any problems with it, but I would like a longer range and a USB server so I tried getting a TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 router as an upgrade from this one, but its performance and range was the same, except that my tablet got worse reception, so I sent it back and just kept using this router for now. If I find a better affordable router I will add it to my review.

2 out of 5 eggsheh

1 out of 5 eggsCount it as junk...no second chances here

Pros: Seemed to be easy to set up...but so what...doesn't perform well at all...and even basics are wrong and bad.

Cons: Summary- I've learned that when a company can't even do basics right...it's far easier on me to just throw it away and start over. Why give junk a second chance? Not worth it.

Set up seemed easy...but when I went to configure a password account could not log into their site using their instructions.

Strike 1...if they can't even keep up a simple thing like that what does that mean for anything else?

Strike 2...signal strength 5 bars..but so sloooowww.
Testing out neighbors signal at two bars was still far faster than this one..

No second chances from me...not angry..just annoyed

2 out of 5 eggsthere are better choices

Pros: easy setup

Cons: I bought 3. When i went to use the third it only got 0 to 1 bar, where the previous 2 got 4 bars. I was past the RMA period at this point, so i can't return it. I seems like there may be an antenna problem.

Other Thoughts: I really hate getting stuck with junk

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work as advertized

Pros: Quick setup, has WAN to LAN firewall feature.

Cons: Firewall doesn't work.
Range is less than half the distance of my old TEW-452BRP unit (whose firewall does work).

Other Thoughts: Bought this to outfit another WAN address so we could see each others private HTTP servers using the WAN address to LAN address firewall. Few routers allow this type of filtering. My old TEW-452BRP works just fine and I bought this TEW-731BR because it was the only TrendNet with this featuure. To bad it doesn't work.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Terks,

We are very sorry to hear that you had trouble with the router you recently purchased from us. We could work with you to set up port forwarding or DMZ for private HTTP servers access if you allow us to. Please contact me at adrian@trendnet.com with "Newegg TEW-731BR Product Review" in the subject line and I will assist you immediately to use . Thank you again for choosing TRENDnet Products.

2 out of 5 eggsnot a satisfied customer

Pros: cheap.
easy setup.

Cons: limited range.
drops connections like crazy.

Other Thoughts: worked fine for 3 months, then is started dropping connections like crazy. I a work in a computer company and not a tech newbie and this router really frustrates me.
I guess you get what you pay for (and I should have paid more and get something more reliable).

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Curry - Please note that this was not our intention when we sold you this router. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com ASAP so we can get a replacement out to you. Thanks for your support of TRENDnet products.

Regards,
