5 out of 5 eggsA great purchase at a great price

Pros: Installed on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Installation was a breeze with the enclosed CD-Rom. Had it up and running in about 10 minutes. At about 40 feet from router, computer works as good or better than when wired to modem.

Cons: None so far

2 out of 5 eggsUbuntu Server installation

Pros: First of all I must say that it probably works on Windows and MAC. I tried to install it on ubuntu Server 12.04 and it didn't work, I also had no GUI.

Cons: Wasn't able to install it on ubuntu Server and that is why I gave it 2/5. It's easy to install if you have GUI but not if you only have command line. I heard that it is possible but there is a lot of configuration to do.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GWU625 has been tested with ◦Linux Fedora 10 (Kernel: 2.6.27.5-117).Please feel to contact our customer support email us: support@iogear.com. 3 out of 5 eggsGood Network Adapter, BUT

Pros: Compact size, easy install, shows 5 bars on my home network. Very pleased with the price.

Cons: Can't get it to connect automatically even though the connect automatically box is checked. I keep having to manually connect every time I go online. What's up with that?? IOGEAR support says to install software from their site. Did that but no difference. Deduct 2 eggs for that.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GWU625 is dependent on the software to configure this devise. The problem you are describing could be related to your computer or operating system. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsNo way

Pros: Auto install on Windows 8

Cons: 2megabyte/s download transfer rate (16mbps)

Other Thoughts: Okay, I've tried this device with two 300mbps routers both running stock and ddwrt. I can't get it over 4MBps peaks with 2MBps consistent.

I called IOGear, trying to find out what the issue is. The fellow I spoke with (Nathan) said this device is not supported by Windows 8, and IOGear does not have Win8 on their roadmap.

I bought this device in particular because it is claimed to be a 300mbps end point, and Newegg advertises it as a Windows compatible solution.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. Since IOGEAR has not offically released Windows 8 drivers for the GWU625 we cannot guarantee operation and speeds with Windows 8. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Works well for a couple of days. Second failure of junk product. If you have one fail get a refund because the second will also fail and then your stuck holding the bag.

Cons: First one failed. RMAed and second one failed within a week. Works well for a couple of days. Now I I can't RMA or get a refund because its over a month. Two failures in less than a month. Never buy again.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little Adapter - 300MBps - Worht the Price!

Pros: Very nice Wireless adapter and is well built.
300MBps is a huge plus over the normal 150MBps that the others have.
Name Brand with support.
Good packaging.
CD included.

Cons: Not much.... Can be a pain to find updated drivers on the internet for this device but that's the only issue that I have experienced.

Other Thoughts: Definitely worth the Low Prices especially for a 300MBps adapter.

3 out of 5 eggsFinicky but functional

Pros: The adapter works after messing around with drivers. Aesthetically, it is small and sleek. Price is reasonable, especially considering I bought it on sale.

Cons: The driver directly from IOgear's support site does not seem to work with Windows 7 x64. (http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GWU625) There isn't a .inf file, and the setup seems to run the wrong version of the Realtek driver you'll actually need. I tried to pull up a driver via the name given under Device Manager, but that also was non-functional. Thanks to another reviewer, I was able to find the slightly-different product name that did work. From Realtek's site, you will need the RTL8191SU driver (http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=229&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true). Once I installed that, the adapter was functional, although it has a non-optional bundle of special wireless functionality installed as well.

Worth noting is that other reviewers seem to have no problem whatsoever with Ubuntu recognizing the adapter. Some other apparent Windows users also seem to be okay.

Other Thoughts: It took me about twenty minutes of putzing around to get this thing to work. I might expect this from a big video card, but a simple wireless adapter proved more troublesome than I could have anticipated. Though it does work, it certainly was underwhelming moving an external hard drive back and forth between my laptop until I could get this thing to function.

3 out of 5 eggsHad driver issues, solved.

Pros: Finally got working after downloading drivers from Realtek website. Very stable and fast transfer speed via 802.11n using Cisco 2500 WAP.

Cons: Drivers would not work on Win7 pro 64-bit.
Had to go to realtek website, search and download driver package for this:
RTL8191SU

That worked fine and

Other Thoughts: Works great once you find the proper drivers. Searching for the product name (IOgear GWU625) did not work, had to use chipset name then all was good.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GWU625 is Windows 7 64 bit compatible. http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GWU625#display. This is a lick to the current software. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.
