5 out of 5 eggsSetup a snap

Pros: Got this because I hand to fiddle with my antennas to get a signal upstairs in this concrete house. Very satisfied. Driver installer will automatically download the latest drivers. Setup is easy as pie, just stick in the CD and follow instructions. It tells you to plug in the range extender, then it finds the RE's signal, asks you to select which SSID you are using, then asks you for the key of that network, does the rest. I only had to do the above steps on one device, and they all get the enhanced signal.

Cons: It does ask you to say you have read and agree to the license agreement before getting started. Cisco has done some shady things lately with updating the firmware of home routers it has sold, so the license agreement might be something you're interested in. However, once you start the install, it downloads the drivers and along with it, a new version of the license agreement. I don't think it was worth an egg, but half an egg definitely.

Other Thoughts: Comes with a short Cat 5e cable and has an interface for it. Didn't need them and didn't bother to find out what they are for. The face glows with the Cisco logo while it is powered, I stuck it behind a dresser because I didn't want the brand name shining at me in the dark.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good...

Pros: Received this RE1000 extender yesterday. MANUALLY configured it after reading up on the Cisco website. Followed the instructions for "Setting up the range expander without the installation CD" and all is well. This is connected to my Linksys E3000. And it worked.
If you not a CROWD follower and don't believe in just sticking a CD in, then follow the instruction below :

Simply connect the Extender to your laptop via ethernet port (turn off your wireless connection on your laptop); it automatically brings you to the admin page (if it doesn't, type in the ip address and hit enter). After configuring the extender (that is setting your admin password) save the settings, then proceed to site survey, you should see your network, select it, type in your passcode (if you have this security feature turned on in your router) and hit save. Wait a few minutes for everything to link up and you're done!
You should now be connected via your ethernet connection. Disconnect the extender, turn back on your wireless connection on the laptop. Place the extender either within line of sight or at least within range of your main router and power it on. The cisco logo on the front of the unit should blink a few times while it searches for a connection to your main router. After it lights up solid. You are good to go!

Cons: Only con I can think of is that it will not extend the range of the 5 GHZ, only the 2.4Ghz

Other Thoughts: It did extend the range of my wireless network. I had a problem getting a strong signal on my second floor. So had the extender placed at opposite end the end of the house on the first floor. Now I am able to achieve a fairly strong signal on the second floor

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Wireless Range Extender

Pros: This wireless range extender is great, I am getting about 35 Mb/s in my basement where I was only getting about 1 Mb/s. I can now easily watch HD video streams from my server.

Cons: None really, for the price point.

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant about purchasing a refurbished model, but I have had no problems to date.
I have read other reviews and immediately changed my extender's IP address to static so that connections would not fail if and when the dhcp lease expires.
I put ddwrt on my E4200 router to increase the output power, this greatly increased the potential throughput of the range extender and allowed me to place it further away than I would have been able to without increasing the power.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: This is an update to my review "Gets the Job Done"

Cons: see other

Other Thoughts: I restarted my router, modem and unplugged the Cisco device and I am now getting 14.5 MBPS, up from the 9 I originally reported.

Sorry for the re review, but I felt this was a pretty significant change.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job DONE!

Pros: The most simple set up ever. They made this thing idiot proof. Increased my signal from my office (which is litterally at the very other side of my house from where my modem is located) from 1-2 bars to full coverage.

Cons: I bought this refurbished and was hesistant. I had a bad experience with a refurb router years ago, but I needed to find something with value for my set up. Since it was Cisco I gave them benefit of the doubt. NO PROBLEMS. Worked great. ZERO CONS.

Other Thoughts: Who this is for -

If you need to extend your wireless signal to another part of your home, and want litterally the easisest set up ever, this is for you. Here are the instructions:

-Insert CD into computer with connection to Internet
-Plug the Cisco device in the wall
-Hit next
-Select your network, enter password
-Done. Move the plug throughout your house as you please.

I have 16MBPS internet. Prior to this, I was getting 1.5mbps in my office. Just did a quick test and got 9 mbps, which is more than sufficient for my office. I'm sure If I move the Cisco device around a bit I may get better speed, but at 9mbps I can pretty do everything I need on my computer.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: This was a very inexpensive option to expand the range of my network.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I know computer networking pretty well, and I had the entire thing setup in less than 2 minutes without the setup CD. The speed of the network was pretty slow initially, but a power cycle on the router and repeater seemed to fix it. I would recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Easy Install, plug in options

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace a powerline set up that just wasn't cutting it. Now I can stream Prime movies to my Blu Ray in HD without any stuttering. Super easy set up to extend your wireless N signal.

1 out of 5 eggsRefurb Fails

Pros: Small, slick install, easy and fast to get up and running

Cons: Fails after two weeks. Like most of the other negative comments for extenders this unit has the same behavior: constant drops and resets every 5 min. If you're loading web pages it's ok, but you can't Skype, stream video or play games with it.

Other Thoughts: Tech support at Linksys seems sufficiently friendly. we'll see if they replace it or what. Remember not to wait more than 90 days if you're having problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExtener

Pros: Easy hook up and great coverage connected with the ea4200 on a 7000 sq home

Cons: Make sure your close enough for the signal to reach the extender or it will drop out constantly
