4 out of 5 eggsSignificant Upgrade for my Wireless Network

Pros: Very vast speed and transfer rate.
The option between 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
Very easy to set up, as it comes with an installation disk.
It is a very nice looking router. You can put it in the best location in your house or apartment without being embarrassed of it being seen.

Cons: Does not support 2.4ghz and 5ghz simultaneously.

Other Thoughts: Great product, increased the speed of my internet substantially.

3 out of 5 eggsHad problem connecting wireless, and needed an agent support via phone to set up

Pros: Gives me double of wifi speed than what I used get from my old router. And has full signal strength.

Cons: I had problem connecting wireless(Oh well, good starting), the WiFi is not visible for any of my devices. So I needed to contact Cisco customer care. So I did chat with an agent, and he gave me 2 pages of instruction to follow(Wait a sec, Is this router is meant for home users?). anyways I did as it was written, but no luck.
So called them, another agent connected remotely and spent 2 hours with the computer and fixed everything.

Remember, the customer care support for the router is only 90days and the extended 1year warranty is additional $20.

5 out of 5 eggsgood speed

Pros: Fast. The Gigabit LAN ports allow you to take full advantage of the 300 Mbps wireless speed. I can copy files from one computer to another (both Win 7) at over 17 MB/s, and that is with WPA2/AES encryption enabled. Any router with only Fast ethernet (100 Mbps) LAN ports will limit you to a maximum of around 10 MB/s file copy speed. Some lesser routers are only fast with encryption turned off; this one is fast even with encryption on.

Moving to 5 GHz made a big difference, as I have the channel all to myself. My house in a suburban neighborhood has dozens of 2.4 GHz wifi routers within range, and some have very high signal strength. My connection over 2.4 GHz was not good. At 5 GHz I get a very stable 300 Mbps connection.

Cons: Not simutaneous dual-band. If you want to also use 802.11b/g devices, you will need to keep your old router also. Will not dock an egg for that since single-band is fair at this price.

Range is worse in 5 GHz band than 2.4 GHz. This is true of all 5 GHz routers, not just this one. After moving the router to the floor of the 2nd level, reception in the 1st level is now very good.

Needed to choose "correct" channel in 5GHz band, otherwise my cordless (landline) phone would cause the connection to drop. Broadly speaking, there are two sets of channels in the 5 GHz band, the lower numbered channels are around 5 GHz, then there is a gap, then there are high numbered channels around 5.8 GHz. I needed to use a channel in the lower set.

Needed updated firmware out of the box.

No USB so no file-sharing/NAS/media-server functions.

Need to use "Cisco Connect" if you want to have a Guest network.

Design prohibits stacking anything on top of this, so it may consume more desk space

Other Thoughts: I bought mine refurbished, and I would buy again without hesitation.
