The WRT160NL Wireless-N Gigabit Router from Linksys is as powerful as it is versatile. As a wireless access point, it uses the latest Draft 802.11n wireless technologies for greater range and data speeds than the older standards, (when used with compatible wireless adapters) while still being fully backwards compatible — perfect for mixed-mode environments.
The router's MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology also makes it a great choice for multimedia fanatics, minimizing errors and optimizing data speed through the use of multiple antennas for both sending and receiving. There's a built-in four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch for wired connections to your network.
Linksys' Storage Link technology lets you connect a USB external hard drive or USB flash drive. This way you can allow multiple users on your network to access files of all kinds. A built-in Media Server takes that up a notch, giving you the ability to stream music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP (universal plug and play) media adapter.

Mostly [very] good
- Pros: Very fast; I didn't realize just how sick my previous router had become until I brought this one up. Quick setup, mostly intuitive, especially if you're familiar with networking. Network map is a neat feature. With same SSID and passkey, existing wireless systems reconnected without issues.
- Cons: May have a bad port. I only need 2-3, so probably won't RMA. Only docked 1 egg because 1) this could be an isolated QA issue, and 2) otherwise it's too fast to make it look bad with a score of '3'.
Doesn't stack as neatly as prior generation.
- Other Thoughts: Replaced a WRT54G that was getting flaky. Big difference. Recognized my Brother HL2070N as a printer (once plugged into a good port). Could not identify my Internet connection, but works just fine (and it's on the map).
Excelent Router
- Pros: High Reliability (Uptime), USB Netlink turns any USB storage into NAS, Nice Web Interface, New LELA Configuration Software, Small
- Cons: It is pricey compared to some models. The wired ports are only 10/100 (not Gigabit). They have a model with Gig e-net ports but it is even more expensive and I don't have a wired gigE PC at the moment...
- Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd Linksys Router, but I've worked with quite a few others for friends and family. Linksys was great before Cisco bought them, and they're probably better now that they're part of Cisco's family. Most Routers are going to perform the same, assuming you can get them setup and configured properly. This is where Linksys excels. My DSL modem was actually plug and play with this new router. The LELA software walked me through the process of setting the SSID and admin password. It took it a few minutes to download the latest firmware (mostly because I a cheap skate with a 1.5Mbps DSL connection) and it updated itself automatically. I was on the net surfing in no time. I'm an IT professional, but the software is so easy anybody could do it. I've worked with Dlink, Netgear, etc routers and Linksys Software is by far the best. I would recommend this product for anybody looking for a new router.

Works Great
- Pros: Lightning fast compared to my previous router. Much better wireless range. Took me ten minutes to set up manually, did not even need the install disc.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: I downloaded and installed the latest firmware and reset it before configuring. If you configure it first then you must re-configure it after updating the firmware.
Update to my previous review
- Pros: The web interface issue where it didn't work until reset only occured from wireless computers, and is fixed in an easy firmware upgrade. I forgot to mention, I got 75-80% signal from one side of the house on the ground floor to the other side one floor up with a standard antenna, 90% with a slightly larger antenna. The external antennas on the router are clearly worth it, especially if you want to upgrade them.
- Cons: None, now that the web interface issue is fixed.
- Other Thoughts: I haven't used the storage link, so I can't rate that.
Good
- Pros: Better speed than my old router. Connection is stable. Handles high bandwidth (streaming video) and low latency (games) quite well. Looks good. The setup interface allows you to back up and restore configurations as a CFG file on your computer, that is a MUST in my opinion. Port forwarding has range forwarding, handy, and can also translate port number requests to different port numbers on the network.
- Cons: Ethernet is not gigabit, but I didn't need that. Router needs to be hard reset each time before the web interface can work, but the erased settings are no big deal because you can back up and restore configurations in a flash. I'll put up with it for a stable router that doesn't cost that much compared to some of the others on newegg, which can be horrible.
- Other Thoughts: I can't comment on the wireless N function because I do not have a wireless N card yet.
