You just got your high speed modem (it could be cable, DSL, fiber optics . . . something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now you need the final element: the router.

With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite seat. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.0. (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

Could this be the router for you? That's your decision, not ours. We'll be here, cheerfully waiting while you make up your mind.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't beat it for the price

Pros: Like the title says, for the price....
It does what it is supposed to do and, at least in my house (5000sq'), has a good strong signal throughout. I've had bad experiences with Linksys longivity, but so far....of course, it has only been one week. (Last one died upon installation, other 2 inside of a year each - so we will see.) Had the setup been easy, it would be 5 stars.

Cons: OK, I know some people thought the setup was easy - not for me. Took almost 4 hours on the phone to all over the world. The setup disc was useless. After a while, even my modem was not working any more. I finally got an AT&T tech in Jacksonville that got it all done in about 30 min. Maybe I should have given it 5 stars 'cause I can't dismiss the possibiloity that some of the confusion was mine.

Other Thoughts: If Linksys had given some alternate instructions about how to set this up via computer input from the IP site, that would have worked out. Don't forget that once you get the hard-wired computers working, you still have to set this up for the wireless ones. Simple to do if you know how, but no instructions. Maybe they are on the setup disc, don't know, never could get that far.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works. The old router it replaced was dropping the internet connection for 20 seconds or so many times per day. That hasn't happened since I installed this.
Installation was easy. I didn't use the Setup Wizard.
My computers are wired so I disabled wireless.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was planning to use Tomato firmware until I learned that it doesn't support VPN. The stock firmware does and is working well enough.

5 out of 5 eggsA classic

Pros: This router is still one of the best on the market today, and it's been around with few changes for many, many years. Rock-solid performance, bulletproof construction, and open-source software make it the best 802.11g router I've ever owned.

Cons: If you need 802.11n, then of course you need an N-capable router. But if your needs are g-only, this is as good as it gets.

Other Thoughts: Use DD-WRT sofware to really open up this router. The Linux base and generous hardware specs allow you to run everything from a RADIUS server to a VPN straight from the router. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse

Pros: Just plug it in and it works. Easy to set up wireless security.

Cons: Only goes through so many walls.

Other Thoughts: Just bought my 5th one of these for a another friend. Everyone I've gotten one of these for has had good luck with them. NewEgg must have bought a boat load of these, $60 is a good deal.

5 out of 5 eggsStable Router Hands Down

Pros: This router albeit 10/100Mbps is still a VERY stable router. How can you argue with it's coverage range of a three story house covering 6,000+ square feet! This router's signal strength beats out even the N routers!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Sometimes newer doesn't mean better! Stick with this model and you won't go wrong!

5 out of 5 eggsDD-WRT to the rescue!

Pros: I ran my basic home network off the stock firmware with no problems until I got my first Blu-ray player. I could not get the Blu-ray to successfully run its internet applications, and I tried everything. Then, I decided to go DD-WRT and see what happens: Bam!, Blu-ray internet full up.

Cons: I guess these days it may be a con not being Wireless N?

Other Thoughts: I haven't seen any problems at all with speed while streaming n**flix video, so not worried about N. I guess Nflix isnt 1080p, so maybe that will be different, but it all looks good to me right now.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This router is amazing. It is very versatile and can be uploaded with third party software to make it into a bridge, access point, vpn, etc. I use it for online gaming and it has yet to fail me and i have had it for a few months now. It is convenient and is better then my old D-Link wireless card. I would strongly recommend this for someone who wants to have wireless access anywhere in the house. It even works for consoles. I have used this for my xbox and it got amazing signal.

Cons: There are no cons!

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Does the job. Flashed to DD-WRT and using as a signal booster from another WRT54GL. Both work great. I've purchased 4 in the past several years.

Cons: It would be nice if they would revise it to take up less desktop space.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes I get a dropped signal requiring and unplug and plug back in but it could be something besides the router...

5 out of 5 eggsGood Generic router

Pros: Price, Performance, external antenna

Cons: Not the sleekest looking unit

Other Thoughts: Used this to replace my WRT54G2 which had poor wireless performance. Flashed DD-WRT to it and this new unit is running much better. The smooth WRT54G2 looks good, but I like the external antennas.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for Basic Home Use in low congested areas

Pros: This is great for a general home router and will provide the general wireless functionality any family would need.

Cons: If you live in a subdivision with A LOT of home networks (like a apartment or town home community, this fails miserably. You will lose connection continually since there are not enough channels to communicate on and you will be fighting it our with your neighbor's networks. If you run into that problem, try the Netgear WNDR3700-100NAS R that offers the 5Ghz Dual band option. Works like a charm.
