5 out of 5 eggsTop Dawg

Pros: Update: 2/6/16 and STILL going strong!

This is the greatest general purpose router ever built...

Been so long I don't even remember when I bought it.

Never failed, never dropped password as some claim to have experienced and long range claim is true in my experience.

My Samsung Galaxy stays solidly hooked as far as the condo dumpster...downstairs and across a parking lot... at least as far as half a football field and a bit more.

Cons: None, nyet, zilch, nada, nein, zip

Other Thoughts: Can anyone else think of any single tech item available on Newegg, in any category, that's stayed at the very top of the "best rating" list as long as this router ???

1 out of 5 eggsNot so great!

Pros: Hmmm Not any that I can think of!

Cons: I have to reboot router every week cause it disconnects all the time. Never had this issue with old router. Ill be throwing this one in the trash when my new one shows up!

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid router with DD-WRT

Pros: I've installed quite a few over the years in an array of setups. The only one that has died lasted 9 years in daily use.

Cons: Still ugly

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the most reliable pieces of hardware ever made

Pros: Have a WRT54G I bought from Newegg for probably 12 years now, so long I've lost count. It outlasted every other piece of hardware attached to it, and some of my family members, and my cat! It still works flawlessly. Using Tomato firmware.

Cons: My cable connection was recently upgraded to 50/5 and I have discovered that this router maxes out at ~20 downstream. Not sure if new 54GL models are limited in the same way.

Other Thoughts: They need to make a giant monument of this thing somewhere. Maybe launch one out into space, send it to Mars. The WRT54GL will never die!

5 out of 5 eggsWRT54gl; router/

Pros: This has been the most dependable and inexpensive of all I have owned or installed over the horse. Once in a while I reboot it and the to the races....too easy for a novice to set up. Great on line manual and Linksys has managed to keep it simple, functional, and inexpensive, How refreshing!!

Cons: My neighbors keep calling me for the ole "Hey we can't get on the internet can we connect to your wireless komputah for a while?

Other Thoughts: I changed my network wireless name to "GO AWAY".

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: You get a good router for the price. While it may need to reset now and again it does so smoothly. It's easy to set up and use.
If your looking for just a good sturdy router with no frills this is it and you can't loose with the price point. I've had one for years and gave it away to a friend when I upgraded to a faster model. It's still going strong.

Cons: The Linksys web site for things like updates and setting a password is less than user friendly and could be made a little more intuitive.

Other Thoughts: This is one of those items that don't need to be improved. It works as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggsBest single band router made (IMHO)

Pros: Take great care, flash with d-wrt CAREFULLY following instructions at
You get more power and many more features at a bargain.

Cons: None unless you've got unshielded cables, etc., which provide interference in 2.4 GHz band

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace any of the deployed WRT54GL's which fail. None ever has.

5 out of 5 eggs10 years of abuse and still works flawlessly

Pros: I purchased my WRT54G while stationed in Korea in 2005. Ever since then I've been a horrible owner, subjecting it to the elements (extreme cold, direct sunlight, moisture etc) for years on end, all while keeping it in constant use.

Currently it sits in my attic, still routing away on even the hottest days that New Mexico has to offer (on these days I can only last a few minuets up there due to the heat) all without complaint.

My only concern is that some day, when I least expect it, karma will catch up to me while crossing a street- in the form of a 18-wheeler shipping Linksys hardware.

Cons: Years of abuse to my WRT54G will one day lead to my death.

Other Thoughts: Awesome product.

5 out of 5 eggsForgot I had it!

Pros: It's strange, but I feel like the best thing you can say about a router is that you've forgotten it's there. This one's run pretty flawlessly for over a year. I primarily use wired connections with it, but I've never had trouble connecting to the wireless.

Cons: I'd love for a router to make the process of Port Fowarding a little more intuitive. For some reason I always have trouble getting that sorted out. But, once I do, it works quite well.

Other Thoughts: I put a bit of electrical tape over the light on the left side of the router. It glows unusually bright compared to the other lights, and I keep it in my bedroom, so I didn't like the extra illumination at night.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Throw Away

Pros: Very cheep price, and decently reliable for quite a while.

Cons: Only lasts for about a year before giving out.

Other Thoughts: This router served me very well for a year. It did everything I wanted it to, and provided decent connectivity, even over a good portion of my yard. After 10 months, It started dropping connections randomly. I confirmed it to be a router issue, however, Considering that it only costs $50, I cant say that I would complain about it at all!
