3 out of 5 eggsSolid, but not fast

Pros: Excellent interface and wired performance.

Cons: Poor wireless performance for streaming. Should have read more about it first.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns cool and never quits.

Pros: I've been using one of these routers for years. It gives coverage to devices in an 1800 square foot house. It has never dropped a connection once. I'm glad Cisco kept this baby on the market after they bought out Link Sys. Good move on their part.

Cons: There are no 'cons.'

Other Thoughts: The complaints I see about this router are most likely the result of faulty installation by the user.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat wireless router

Pros: This is a great router. Very easy to configure and lots of options. I am using it as a DMZ router connected to my firewall. I like that you can easily set it up: so that it does not broadcast the SSID, use WPA2 encryption, set a list of MAC addresses so that only your devices can connect. Never had a single issue with it in over a year.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsSuprisingly does work

Pros: Does work, like other reviews have said, it is an easy setup, l love the dd-wrt open source software once I translated it from Chinese to English (which you have to do every time you change a tab), great range and security.

Cons: Shipping took nearly the max of the time frame, no tracking information given, from reading the description thoroughly before purchasing I believed I was getting a brand new router in the box, not a very low end refurbished unit, bundled up and put in a "ziploc" bag, missing manual and setup disc, was not damaged in shipping but the plastic casing of the router looked like it had been tied to and dragged from a car, the detachable antanae(s) were new and in new condition, I was rightly upset and should have called new egg, I know they would have taken care of me, but after a while I was able to turn it into a positive experience, Im glad someone pulled this router out of a land fill and refurbished it and charged a price of an in box new router so I can help save mother earth. almost forgot browsing through the software and translating it takes nearly triple the time...maybe it's time I should learn Chinese...that would be a positive.

Other Thoughts: I do feel better after being able to comment...Thanx.

1 out of 5 eggsI don't know why this item is so popular

Pros: Ease of setup was pretty good

Cons: This item was to bring my system more up to date as I was using an older netgear router and thought I would go with linksys this time since this item was so highly rated.

I was extremely disappointed as attempting to set up security and authentication did not work very well. If I mimicked my old routers settings my devices would connect to this router. If I tried a new SSID or security type then I could not connect some devices or they would drop repeatedly. I tried multiple settings/channels/firmware upgrades nothing worked for fixing the wireless. I got out my old netgear router, reset it and even changed my security settings and all devices reconnected with no problem and stayed connected on channels the linksys router could not maintain.

Other Thoughts: Don't always trust high ratings....

5 out of 5 eggsrock solid

Pros: wanted rock solid for security system use. Flashed with DD-WRT mini and not a single hiccup.
No drops, no reboots, no anything except consistent performance.
May be slow by today's standards, but when it absolutely must work... its hard to beat.

Cons: None for what it is.

Other Thoughts: If only a truly modern equivalent was available

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its been online constantly, save power outages and moving twice, for seven years solid.

Cons: It's old. I am writing this at the time I am retiring the router - the switch (LAN side) is the same speed as my ISP. This was the bottleneck with four users trying to use the internet at once. It is also only a 802.11G router... fast in olden times, but no longer.

Other Thoughts: If you have older gear, or a slower ISP, this will be great, especially modded with openwrt, ddwrt, or tomato. If you have a higher speed ISP, or need higher speed wi-fi, look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsOld faithful and reliable from the 90s

Pros: I've been using and recommending these things since they were wrt54g version 1.

I think I've installed a hundred throughout the Toronto area for various customers and only four have died on me most likely because I turned up the wifi radio power to 100mW or higher. Only one other where I discovered as I went that it was underpowered for the job (OpenVPN client, three VLANs and DHCP server)

They're a solid workhorse especially running dd-wrt firmware. Other colleagues use it for OpenWRT-Milkfish in various corporate environments and have done so for years.

Cons: None that I can think of.

If you're going to crank up the radio power, I highly suggest modifying the case and use some sort of cooling on the radio chip.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad they reissued this.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage out of the box

Pros: Simple setup, cheap device

Cons: Probably will die within 30 days. Not much customization options. Occasionally needs a restart for no apparent reason.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these to use in a medium sized building. One died, the other needs to be restarted occasionally because it will stop allowing connections at random. I had planned to flash ddwrt onto these devices when I had some spare time, but one bricked itself before I even had the chance to try it out. Unfortunately I missed my 30 day window to get an RMA.
Don't buy these pieces of garbage, even if you want to flash custom firmware, they'll probably commit suicide anyway.
