5 out of 5 eggsNETGEAR R6200 Wireless AC 1200

Pros: Absolutely amazing coverage. We have the device located on the far side, second floor, of our 3000 square foot home. I can still get a very good signal on the other side of the house, across a 15 foot walkway, and into our garage. Love the USB 3 port and the gig Ethernet ports let my TVs talk to each other and share movies at wicked fast speeds.

Cons: None at all

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this router

Pros: When it works, it has 5Ghz signal, 2.4 GHz signal as well as a guest network. Range is good. Setup is easy.

Cons: Worked for just over 1 year. Now, it is unusable - dropped connections, 5Ghz signal gone, intermittent internet connection, extremely slow, have to reboot the router constantly. Family was ready to mutiny. Replaced router with old Linksys WRT54GS - everything is great. Using motorola SB6141 cable modem (bought eight weeks ago). Contacting netgear about a remedy - I paid $160 for this router from newegg on 12/19/2012 - will netgear refund money, offer a replacement? Or, do I just never buy another Netgear? Don't know. I'll let you know.

Other Thoughts: The USB port access using Readyshare isn't very usable with MAC. I had a 32GB thumb drive attached to use as a share drive amongst family and they all had poor access to it. You have to go to great efforts to stay connected to it and then have access privileges.

1 out of 5 eggsR6200 Problems

Pros: NONE

Cons: Drops Internet over WiFi on random
Have to use "Genie" to reconnect
Support has be horrible

Other Thoughts: STAY AWAY FROM NETGEAR! This is just a warning, purchase this garbage if you dare. I have an R6200 router that has NOT been stable since NOVEMBER 2013. They did RMA the original unit and the replacement does the same thing. Drops the Internet at random. I have to use the Genie to reconnect. Have been sent to "level 2" support and it is as bad as the standard help desk. Now, for some reason, I spent 190.00 on a horrible router and they think I am now their BETA TESTER. Load this beta driver. Load this beta firware update. When did I, as a CUSTOMER, sign up to BETA their "fixes". STAY AWAY. Purchase ANYTHING BUT NETGEAR

3 out of 5 eggsbit Pricey

Pros: Very user friendly. Big sucker. Wired experience just fine. Wireless don't really use. except on tablets and phones.

Cons: That USB 3.0 is wrong. So was the model before this one. The backup NAS has like at least 3 colors. If it's in White it's in 2.0 mode. If it's in blue it's 3.0 mode. It's always white. Genie is screwy. It'll only fix the router if your on wireless. If your wired forget it. Dad bricked the last router constantly resetting the router (has like a big blue WPS button in the middle. was the $90 model at the time. But because the ISP has a Motorola cable modem for Fiber Optic I guess LInksys is not compatible so we don't have much choice.

Other Thoughts: Why does Genie need to be in wireless mode to fix? Be more reliable to be on wired.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: Not bad for N implementations.
Decent wired router

Cons: No AC speed connections from 3 different devices
Spotty wireless speed
Needs weekly reboot

Other Thoughts: I've owned this router since 2/23/13, so I've had enough time to work with it to get myself acclimated to its quirks. I'm now considering replacing it. I've not been able to get any AC speeds from this router. I've used a Linksys WUSB6300 an Asus USB-AC56 and my Google/LG Nexus 5. None of them connect to this router above 72Mbps. The Nexus 5 will not connect at any speeds over 54Mbps. At first, I thought that this was just something with the Nexus, until I connected to an Asus RT-AC66U at 450Mbps. I then tried connecting to a couple other AC routers wth my Nexus 5, and in every case, the connectivity was flawless and far faster than this one.
Promiximity is not an issue, as I'm in the same room as the router when doing these tests. The firmware has been updated to V1.0.1.48_1.0.37, and the 5Ghz network config is done properly...I know what I'm doing with this stuff. Basically, this router is a failure as an AC access point.

2 out of 5 eggsmediocre at best

Pros: it is much faster than my old reliable router WRT54GL. the dualband makes Interference almost impossible.

Cons: After 1year and two month its acting up like I have never seen before. every day now I have to reset that darn thing cause it looses the incoming WAN connection (no modem, fiber optics). Software and Firmware updates take forever to load and it took 24hours to load the newest Firmware.

Other Thoughts: having a program to load just to access a network printer or a storage drive is IMHO "Stone Age" material. I will definitely think twice if I buy this expensive router ($170 at the time) again or any Netgear for that matter.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Grizzly,

The firmware update delay you mention is definitely not normal. You may want to try performing a complete hard reset of the device, then check for the latest updates, as this may resolve the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsHeadline specs are wrong

Pros: + Is a router.
+ Has 802.11ac, though it's nominal at best.
+ DLNA works, though it's got its problems.

Cons: - Is only 500Mhz, not 800Mhz.
- Has half the ram.
- Has one quarter the flash space.
- Doesn't support USB 3.0.
- Won't be able to handle much traffic with that CPU/RAM.
- Won't be able to install any other decent firmware with 16MB flash.
- You'll have to pay to ship it back. Even though they advertised a different product.
- Probably hates freedom, too.

Other Thoughts: If they're not going to sell what they advertise, I think it's best I start buying my routers from an online retailer with a better RMA policy.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Irritated,

We're happy to help - it sounds like you received the incorrect unit version. Have you initiated a return with Newegg or our support team? If not, contact us directly at and we'll be happy to arrange an exchange for you.

1 out of 5 eggsPrinter Support?

Pros: Attractive appearance.

Cons: WILL NOT/NEVER HAS allowed printers on wireless network.

Other Thoughts: I have two wireless-capable printers. A Canon MX-882 AND Epson 645. I have attempted to configure both printers to work with this product, the R6200 and have called tech support three times and have elevated the issue to level 2 support without relief or resolution. Both printers were supported by my previous Netgear wireless router, WPN824 which died suddenly three months ago. I will need to purchase another product unless this issue is resolved. Tech support has failed to resolve the issue after repeated attempts.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Sevster,

- Were both Canon and the Epson wireless printers able to detect R6200's 2.4GHz SSID?

- Please try changing the 2.4GHz wireless mode in the R6200's web GUI and see if that helps. Please try "Up to 54 Mbps".

Let us know if that helps! We can be reached at

3 out of 5 eggscan't connect to 5ghz band

Pros: connects to 2.4

Cons: can't connect to 5ghz and there is no tech support at netgear

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We'd like to help. Did you contact our online support or our phone support? If so, please email us at with the tracking information you were given so we can investigate that, and also get in touch with you to help get things running.

Also, what devices are you trying to connect to 5 GHz? Do you know if they support 5 GHz? If so, can they see the 5 GHz SSID from the router?
