5 out of 5 eggsWorks well even for an older model...

Pros: Great price.
small in a positive way.
so far anything I have tried, runs SMOOTHLY.
great quality (1080P)
I personally enjoy having the fiber out without having the need to keep the tv on just for sound or bypass sound thru tv for the stereo.
works with any monitor that also has hdmi (not just TVs)
the quality of netgear has also been implemented on this streaming box just like they usually do with routers.
not a single lock up or freeze from anything i have tried...

you can use a tablet/phone to send videos to the tv just like you would with chomecast.

Cons: no local network play via upnp or dlna.
(even though with a simple firmware upgrade or adding the feature with a channel on the list would make it work flawlessly) I really hope netgear does this....

if you loose the remote (btw it is NOT a cheaply built remote) you cannot power on the box, but you could use a replacement or any other netgear streaming remote meant for another model box, on this one.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea why people have issues with this model. either people are id*ots or plain just don't pay attention to properly use an item.

if you expect certain features on an inexpensive model that is meant for a more expensive one, that does not mean this model box sucks or have "issues".

if you can deal (so far) without being able to play local files. this will do you well...

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible producy

Pros: None

Cons: This player will not work on the tv i bought it for, just shows the splash screen and that's is. I tried 4 hdmi cables to see it that was the problem and connected it to two other tvs. One tv will not display anything, the other tv (which is my oldest, about 7 years old) works sometimes. Netgear tech support was terrible and not helpful at all when i could understand what they were saying. Really liked netgear until now but will think twice before buying anything else from them.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: -Does specifically what we need it to, Netflix and Hulu
-Way better than the Wii, actually HD
-Extremely small, didn't have to clear things off our shelf for it
-Set itself right up with no hassle

Cons: -Remote feels dollar store level cheap
-U.I. could be a bit smoother

Other Thoughts: With the Wii being horrible at maintaining our wi-fi, Nintendo beginning to abandon online in some countries, and having a 1080p only to watch netflix in 480i, I made the executive decision to get a new netflix box for the living room. Got this on a great sale price, so I went for it over splurging on a Roku. Device instantly starts Netflix/Hulu in HD, and thats what matters. It's not the absolute greatest in terms of other channels, but we're not the kind of family that would ever use one of these to replace cable.

3 out of 5 eggsok for the price

Pros: low price, at least now that they have reduced it to $35. At $80, it was a loss

Cons: - very weak remote reception.
- Slow, in pretty much every area of usage.
- Remote has a keypad, but the software interface doesn't use it for anything! You end up with the one letter at a time game-show interface.
-Not the best user interface, in fact, really poor

Other Thoughts: Well, it is have the price of it's competition and it works, so that is why I gave it 3 stars.
We are able to watch shows with it, so if price is a major feature, then this is the box for you.
If I wrote this back when it was $80, I would have given it 1 star

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost bought it

Pros: Cheap price

Cons: No factory support for this part # ?

Other Thoughts: I almost bought this item despite the abundance of pessimistic reviews here. I went to Netgear's website to see if a newer firmware is available or if other support is available to repair the issues noted in the other reviews. Searching Netgear support with the model # sold here as well as creative derivatives yielded 'product not found' messages' . Yuk. No thanks - I'll pass.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: It simply does not work. It is so slow that each selection you really need half an hour coffe brake. Hopefully by that time you came back it might have stream something.

Other Thoughts: Neve ever recomend or buy this product.

1 out of 5 eggsPretty bad

Pros: When the OS is running well, everything is fine.

Cons: There is a memory leak somewhere that causes me to need to power cycle every few days, at least. It will grind to a hault and not respond to remote input. Also, the onboard NIC loses it's connection a few times a week. I've replaced cables and actually my switch since, and have proven that the wired NIC onboard just.. stops working sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Is slow to respond to remote control input such as typing, which can be frustrating.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: Cheaper than Ruko and available at staples for spur of the moment purchase. Has a fair a mount of apps and a remote....

Cons: Does not support home network streaming, neither music or video. Netflix compatibility is lacking at best. Slow to respond in pretty much any app. Often hangs and have to reset the unit. Firmware and software updates too rare as many bugs needs fixing. Often have to push the return button because HDMI output fails to register streaming.

Other Thoughts: Pretty disappointed in this item. I usually am fairly happy with netgear but they failed on this product. Not something I would ever buy again. Buy the Ruko, as it is MUCH more stable and much more solid and supports home network streaming.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is amazing for its price!

Pros: It has Netflix, Pandora, and like 200 other "apps." Even has a few card games like texas hold em. Firmware updates. Buffers pretty far ahead if you have a decent internet speed. It is a cute little box, and doesnt get too hot. 1080P is actually 1080p. I was going to buy the one that costed $10 more, but the only difference is the Intel WiDi support, and who uses that? Using my android phone as a remote is a pretty cool feature too.

Cons: No volume control with the remote. Also, the remote that comes with it doesnt have great range, you literally need to either point the remote directly at the neotv box or turn the box so it is facing right at you. Otherwise the remote doesnt work from more than 10 feet. Boohoo, not a big deal. Just use the ipod/android app for remote.

Other Thoughts: Would like to see volume controls on the remote. The settings and menus are tough to navigate at first. It gets laggy if you leave it on for a few days. Overall though, Im very impressed with what the box can do for the price I paid. Feel skeptical? I definately did but it won me over and I want to buy another one for my work now. Beats watching netflix on a PC...

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Exactly as Advertised

Pros: Device was unpackaged and hooked up within 1 minute using nothing but the power cord and an HDMI cable (not included). Device powered up, quick setup was a breeze. Device found my wireless network, connected, and found an update available. Applied update and explored device.

*Simple, Fast Setup
*1080p Streaming across my wireless network
*Multiple channels available on the device
*Auto-turn off in case I forget and leave it on

Cons: Device did not fulfill my minimum expectation of such a device.

Device has no method of accessing any network media.

Loses 2 stars for lacking basics by today's standards.
*No web browser.
*Unable to access my music/movies/pictures from my computer/NAS.

Other Thoughts: I can understand a manufacturer not wanting to include that the device is meant to be stand-alone on my network, but it's 1012. Everything is connected to everything for no reason what-so-ever. I can send a picture from my phone to my printer from 200 miles away. I would expect that a "Media Player" that has "network capability" to have the ability to play Media from my Network by premise alone. Caveat Emptor. I will eat the loss and hope that Netgear adds the most basic of basic functionality.
