5 out of 5 eggsBest little switch

Pros: Low cost / high performance / HIGH reliability / good looks / metal case / LIFETIME warranty!
I have 40 - 50 of these in the field at various clients in various industries in various conditions and have never had one fail or even need to be rebooted, ever!

Cons: None!
If you read a review saying that these have any problems remember two things.
1. People generally only take the time to complain when there is a problem so for every negative review there are hundreds if not thousands of positive experiences.
2. It has a lifetime warranty!

Other Thoughts: I normally don't write reviews but I was purchasing another one of these switches for a client and saw on the side of the web page that there was a 1 star review saying that this switch was guaranteed to fail on you in a year. That statement is rubbish and I writing this review to offset that garbage, besides it has a LIFETIME warranty!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: These are cheap, sturdy units that can support full gigabit speeds.

Cons: They are very sensitive to voltage spikes. We have lost a lot of them where others have survived. Granted summers in FL are pretty harsh on all unprotected electronics.

Other Thoughts: If you need a good dumb switch that can handle gigabit then look no further. These things work great. Just make sure you have it and all exterior (if you have any) cables surge protected.

1 out of 5 eggsbad PS and no heat sinks

Pros: Good products when they work!

Cons: I've had several netgear switches over the years and have had to either put fans on them to keep them cool/running, or repair the power supply to get them back in operation. Clearly big soft spots for several of their products.

Other Thoughts: Like the switches when they work, especially the in metal box, but can't support them because of heat sensitivity and poor power supply reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in Show

Pros: I now have three of these and no trouble what so ever.

Gigabit speeds, solid metal construction, life time warranty, good value for the money, plug & Play.

Cons: When used on a table-top it is a bit clumsy. The rj45 jacks are on one side (backside) and the power plus is on the other side (front). So no mater how you position it, there is at least one cable sticking out.

But it can be wall mounted.

Other Thoughts: Even though I posted a con, I love these switches. I have purchased cheaper priced switches just to have them fall after a couple of years. And some i had to power cycle occasionally to clean out the cobwebs.

But I have never had to power cycle one of these switches.

Good job Netgear.

And Newegg is tops

5 out of 5 eggsNetgear UnManaged Switch

Pros: True plug and woosh, off at gig speed. Power supply has a two year warranty while the switch itself is lifetime.

Cons: none, yet

Other Thoughts: I have never had a Netgear product fail so will see.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Switch Bad Power Supply

Pros: I have 4 of these. The switch works great until the power supply starts to fail. Over the past two years the power supply of 3 of these devices has died. I'm down to my last working power supply/switch. The other 3 units work fine when I test them with the one good power supply.

Cons: No power supply = no switch. You have to make sure you read the fine print. The lifetime warranty does not cover the power supply. Very deceptive if you ask me.

Other Thoughts: I would stay away from this device simply because of the track record with the power supply. Looks like I'm not the only sucker.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have this switch where the traffic is heavy on all the ports and it performs fine. Metal enclosure.

Cons: None that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsNETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Business-Class Desktop Switch

Pros: Does not overheat. Takes one port and converts to 7 without losing data speed or fidelity. highly recommended (does not conflict with network by reassigning ip addresses - a plus for govt. or public sector). Comes with lifetime warranty.

Cons: na
