Pros: Makes all other OS's feel like heaven.

Cons: Microsoft has spit in our face with this abomination.

1 out of 5 eggsThe death of Windows

Pros: None.

Cons: I was about to buy this OS because I had the understanding that microsoft was finally adding in the start button with the new version of 8.1. After reading up on it the Windows button on the desktop still doesn't use the start menu similar to what windows 7 uses but instead just opens up the same old tile screen.

Other Thoughts: I'll pass and continue to use windows 7 or maybe even start using Linux here shortly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sleek, ultra fast, practically everything you'd want from a good OS.

Cons: No Aero

Other Thoughts: I don't understand why people hate it so much. The only MAJOR change is the Start Screen. It is just a large Start Menu! Personally, I didn't use the Start Menu very much when I had Windows 7

Be sure to upgrade to the Windows 8.1 Preview for an even better Windows experience.

2 out of 5 eggsdisk damage

Pros: It worked great when I use the beta and I noticed it did not labor the system like vista and XP. The boxes and layout still will take some getting used to but that’s ok. Touch screen is a plus but a mouse still works ok.

Cons: none yet. i have used the beta and had good results

Other Thoughts: The container it came in is a paper sleeve and the DVD has a spot that the drive can’t read when installing on my laptop. I also tried an external drive and got the same results. Microsoft please package this kind of stuff in a better container.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worthy of PC

Pros: None

Cons: Mobile device software loaded on a PC. Very disfuctional in use. NOT user friendly! Requires a great deal of research to change settings to enable a PC to operate semi-effectively. Best solution is to load Win 7 or other OS to replace it.

Other Thoughts: I have wasted an enormous amount improving the settings in an effort to use win 8. Yet, every next move is another problem with this product. I suggest non-apple hardward providers find an alternative to windows or they are going to loose hugh market share.

Pros: Makes Vista look like the greatest operating system ever created.
Boots fast though.

Cons: The OEM sku of Windows 8 only includes touchscreen capabilities if the hardware is certified Windows 8 compatible.
The user interface is counter intuitive and extremely clunky as a desktop.
Takes 7 or 8 clicks to get to settings that in Win7 required 2 clicks at most.
The tile interface can get quite ugly if you are loading non-windows 8 apps.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this with the intent of loading it on my Dell Inspiron Duo netbook. Unfortunately, in MS's own words "in order to promote the best 'touch' experience on PCs, OEM System Builder software for Windows 8 will only support touch functionality on hardware that has been certified for touch in Windows 8".
As a result of this policy, the Win 8 disc is sitting on my desk unused and my touch screen netbook is being reloaded with a linux distro I know supports touch.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Love the new look. I heard on Kim commando tonight that Microsoft
Is going to bring back the start tab in the next service pack too btw.. The reg explorer windows are setup like Microsoft office apps, which is great in my opinion.

Cons: No start tab pin on task bar.

Other Thoughts: It's a refreshing look and if your upgrading you should probably try 8 on a friends PCM first it is a little different.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: none

Cons: too many to list. do not try to use this operating system if you already have high blood pressure.

Other Thoughts: this would make a halfway descent cell phone operating system if it didn't require so much resources.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it!

Pros: Metro is handy

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: My 4 years old HP Pavilion with Vista decided not to allow me to restore back to factory state (code purple). A little research shows that this is mainly due to that the computer's hardware no longer in the factory state. Well, thank you HP. If you continue to do this, I am not going to buy HP anymore.
Long story short, I guess it is good thing that now I have an excuse to upgrade to Windows 8. I have Windows phone, so I am used to the new Metro style.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter with touchpads

Pros: It kind of grows on you.

Cons: Old PCs need not apply.

Other Thoughts: All you need to know about this operating system can be deduced from the promos which exclusively feature touch pads. Microsoft is clearly trying to wean us off of the desktop. Unfortunately I'm not ready to leave. I have no problem with MS trying to create an OS for touchpads but kluging it with the PC OS was ill advised. Why not make two? I do like the interactive desktop.
