5 out of 5 eggsLove Windows 7

Pros: I wish I had bought two at this price, but I was able to get another OEM version through another method.
Windows 7 still has that classic desktop look to me and still has enough features to make most things ridiculously simple to fix.

Cons: Microsoft doesn't update software very well. They keep a static original operating system for download and not a set of updates on an FTP basically. They are so very worried about software control.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is starting to get phased out like other things unfortunately. Manufacturers aren't updating drivers for motherboards and such, so make sure that there will be no complication in using Windows 7 with your motherboard. I had a month-long battle with the motherboard I just put in my wife's computer and most of the headache could have been avoided with a newer OS. Partially Microsoft's fault and mostly the manufacturer's fault.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's no XP.

Pros: It's Windows so there's lots of software available.

Cons: It's no XP. But how to you beat XP? It costs too f ing much.

Other Thoughts: 7? 8? 8.1? 10? Will there every be something better than XP?

5 out of 5 eggsThe Legacy is still good.

Pros: I was one of those who waited until the XP SP3 version was on its last leg of extended support before switching to 7, mostly due to my seething hatred of using Vista. I had known before how different the product was from Vista, although seeing how much it improved was certainly nice, so I figured this was the natural step forward.

The familiar usability from XP is still there, so those who have never used Vista will not get lost in the interface and organization of the system. The 64-bit language is also a welcome upgrade for those who have only ever used a 32-bit OS in the past since it means better... well, most everything, especially where hardware is considered (Loving my 10 GB of RAM).

Since the time of this review, purchasers are still able to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, so if you want to get updated but are not quite sold on Windows 10 yet, this will still serve you well should you decide you want to move on to 10 in future.

Cons: The upgrade from Windows 10 was quite the headache. Not sure if that is purely the fault of this os or Microsoft. If you decide to upgrade when you make your purchase, be sure to turn off all of your start-on-startup applications (msconfig > startup) and uninstall any security software for good measure.

Other Thoughts: Though I myself recently upgraded to Windows 10, using Windows 7 has been great and I'll likely be using it as a barometer of quality for future Windows releases unless Windows 10 manages to be phenomenal.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than 8

Pros: Better than WIN8

Cons: -many legacy problems carried over from past WIN-OS's

Other Thoughts: If a large company makes an OS like this without all the corporate crud that seems to be ladled on MAC and WIN they would take over the market. Linux isn't bad, but no one in my immediate friends/family can use it except me..

4 out of 5 eggsOS

Pros: Way better than what I've read about 8! Runs newer games that XP won't (so sad...).

Cons: Not as easy to customize as XP. Things are buried (Hidden) deeper than ever! Lots of "nag-ware", but they can be turned off.

Other Thoughts: To play newer games & to get the most out of my latest build (ASUS Rampage IV Formula Mobo/Intel i-7/2ea HD 7850's w/2GB ea, 8GB of system RAM in Quad channel...) I had to finally make the dreaded upgrade. Not as disappointed as I thought I would be. I guess I have learned a few new tricks in re-organizing the programs/start menu (to consolidate the crud & good stuff, that gets installed over time). In XP this was much easier. I made a folder (named: Utilities) for most of the stuff I installed (not games), then another folder for all the "extra crud", such as un-installers & read-me's. This reduced the build up of things greatly & has also helped me "get over" XP sooner! :<)
