The "OEM Policy" is part of what you get in this package
- Pros: It's windows 7! The applause speaks for itself. Seven can take advantage of today's best hardware to speed itself up, but also scales incredibly well. It springs to life at the touch of your mouse, runs your intensive programs with blazing speed and all with a flare previously unmatched. People love this OS and it's easy to see why.
The only caveat is the "OEM version" license this comes with, which doesn't allow motherboard upgrades or transfers.
You can upgrade anything but the motherboard with no problems. And if it dies, you can even replace it (with the same model, and it may require a call to ms.)
It makes sense though because you get what you pay for. They can offer a smaller price here because OEM windows doesn't have the perk of 'transferability to another machine or upgraded motherboard' like full retail.
Know the difference, but if you don't mind that limitation it's actually a pro. (Makes this lower-price version possible.)
- Cons: No Cons. However if you want freedom to upgrade mobos in the future go with full retail. If that's not important to you, this is an awesome buy at an amazing price.
- Other Thoughts: Remember, we're reviewing "Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM", not just "Windows 7".
"Quoting OEM policy" is definitely important to reviewing this, because that OEM part affects what hardware you can change-out in a big way, which is a huge aspect of the product and how you can use it.
It's especially useful to folks like gamers, who may plan to upgrade their motherboard in the future. If they know beforehand that OEM doesn't allow this, they might grab full retail instead of finding out too late.
U CAN UPGRADE MOTHERBOARDS
- Pros: Very fast system, data transfer is faster than 32 bit, OEM but you can still upgrade any part and that includes motherboard just need to call microsoft to the number they give you and tell them and they wil reactivate it for you, alot of eye candy that actually works, Makes XP look bad and works ALOT better
- Cons: Cant make a system image for hard drive failure but thats why you get pro or ulitimate.
- Other Thoughts: To the person that keeps saying you cant upgrade motherboards he needs to learn that you can. call the 1-800 number they give you and they will reactivate it for you. I am on my second mb now using this as i went from am2+ to an am3 mb took a whole 5 minutes to call and get a new number wasnt even on hold.

Nice
- Pros: Gonna have to get used to the product from switching over from vista few different features but whatever we all have to get used to it everytime windows decides to realease a new os. Great buy.
- Cons: none
Good OS. Kinda.
- Pros: It's a good OS. It's cheap, too.
- Cons: It's essentially Vista with a new GUI.
Good job!
- Pros: A polished, modern OS that's worthy of replacing Windows XP. Fixes most of the annoying aspects of Vista, as well as adds a few new features. Windows 7 convinced me to step hesitantly away from my beloved XP, and I don't regret it at all.
- Cons: Microsoft should have gotten it right the first time. Win7 doesn't seem like enough of a departure from Vista to justify a whole new release. I'm glad they offered Vista owners a free upgrade.
