1 out of 5 eggsToo many issues!

Pros: Water-proof
Typical photo quality
Typical camera size

Cons: I have had many issues with this product. The camera was typical of an underwater camera, but the issues and service were not. A year after getting the camera there was an error with a sensor that required service. Canon an outrageous price for service, regardless of how simple the issue is to solve. I fixed it and thought that would be the end of the problems. I had not exposed the camera to the water since the Canon factory service. On our honeymoon I checked the seal and went into the water to snorkel. I brought it into the water has I had before the service and it would not turn on; I looked at it carefully and was horrified to find that water was inside the camera. I inspected the seal and could find no cause. The camera was ruined. We have come to the conclusion that when the Canon serviced the camera it did not retain the waterproof quality. I have spent hours dealing with rude representatives and dealing with the run around. In the end Canon refused to stand behind their work and I refuse to pay for their mistake.

Other Thoughts: I recommend spending your money on a different brand’s waterproof camera.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: Takes great pics, easy to use, tough, and it's waterproof. I like to canoe and was missing some chances to take photos because I'd have to dig my camera out of a waterproof bag to take a picture. No longer. It's macro ability is also good. I've gotten some very nice closeups of flowers and insects.

Cons: Bulkier than most point & shoots but I knew that before I bought it. Being waterproof and tough is more important to me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat all around camera

Pros: I absolutly LOVE this camera. I origionaly bought it to use for snorkeling trips only for it's underwater capability but it turns out it takes better pictures than any of my other Canon cameras. Picture quality isn't quite as good as a nice DSLR, but it's exceptional for a point and shoot. I have taken this camera free diving and snorkeling on multiple trips and it really does take crisp amazing underwater pictures (as long as the water is decently clear). This thing can also take a beating, very durable so far. Some of the photo settings are great as well, particularly the underwater, foliage, and sunset settings produce some amazing photos. Two thumbs up to Canon for this one!

Cons: The only con is that this camera is a little bit more bulky than most of Canon's non-watterproof cameras, but this is because the optical zoom needs to be inside the casing, and can't project out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisfied

Pros: Waterproof after several submersions in salt and fresh water, picture quality enough for my casual use.

Cons: Salt dried into sockets on corners, which is my fault.

Other Thoughts: I haven't looked much, but I haven't had luck finding a float for the camera, which sinks.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly recommend

Pros: Great overall camera. I've owned it over 2 years and have had no problems. I use it recreationally outdoors but have not gone below a couple of feet in the water. Lots of features and 12.1 megapixels. I am very happy with my purchase and have not had any problems.

Cons: Extra factory batteries are expensive.

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with my purchase and have not had any problems. I would highly recommend it

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little camera for underwater and snapshots

Pros: Excellent quality photos. Bright screen and lots of choices for additional on-display info. Reasonable battery life.

Fast turn-on time. Love the presets, especially for underwater - great color balance correction.

Was happy to see the UI had all the features you might want to use the camera in manual mode, although they were sometimes hard to get to.

I don't use flash except as really necessary, and changing the setting and the default setting is simple.

The underwater capability is fabulous for snorkeling and just having around the water - that is, places you'd fear to bring your mobile phone due to the wet hazard.

The quick release strap attachments on each corner are very handy. I choose a corner based on which hand I will be carrying it with, then cinch it up so that I can just let it go when I need my hand and it will fall and dangle. That alone saves 95% of actual dropping.

Cons: The 3x optical zoom range is rather limited. That's suddenly *very* noticeable on, say, a whale watch. I'd rather not use the electronic zoom unless really necessary as quality goes down noticeably.

There is no RAW format setting. That has to be a built-in limitation - there's no real need to omit this except based on the target market. Still they could have buried it deep somewhere...

I've had some strange "crash" issues: camera turns on with an error - something about a problem with the lens or something. Sometimes a simple battery pull and replace fixes it, sometimes it takes doing it a couple times. This has occurred ~3 times, but not recently, thank goodness. This is the *only* reason I gave 4 eggs and not 5.

Other Thoughts: Lots of buttons - could be a con, but reading the manual was a huge help and as I tend to do a lot more than just point and shoot, this was extremely valuable.

I'd consider buying a second battery if you planned to use it continuously.

Overall, this is a really good "point and shoot" camera that is also really robust and can be taken underwater. I did 35 mm black and white photography and darkroom for about 5 years, and this camera lets me take much more than simple snapshots, in spite of the limitations mentioned above.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Camera

Pros: Good quality camera. I have owned one for over two years and have yet to face any major issues.

Cons: It has trouble taking quality photos in very bright light, but this can often be fixed by using the program mode.

The waterproof lining for the memory card and battery feels a bit unreliable. It's just a piece of rubber. I have not had any leakage but I am afraid to go diving with this camera.

1 out of 5 eggsNot waterproof!

Pros: looks too good to be true?

Cons: Failed on the second day. Literally worked fine on day 1 and then day 2 water entered from either the batter door or the A/V out door. I was pretty careful to make sure that we did not accidentally knock those open in the water.
Its just a lousy design. Be aware and look elsewhere.
Im a long time canon buyer - have a 40D and have had at least three other powershot camers in the last 15 years - pretty bummed about this one. Oh well..... my opinion about canon is diminished.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat camera

Pros: great camera has been dropped several times by sister-in-law and nieces and nephew still works like a charm. Haven't taken underwater yet but has had many days of rain and that alone was worth it. It even survived Bonnaroo 2011 with all the dust.

Cons: No Dust Filter but I'm trying hard to find something to complain about

Other Thoughts: Hope Newegg gets more in stock as would tell any want a camera to look at this one.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I read a lot of the reviews on this page when I bought a refurbished model back in February. I did experience the lens error message when I first started using it but it finally got to the point that onceI starte using the camera on a regualr basis, the error message stopped. I did not have the problem of leakage in the water that some described. Great pictures, in and our of water and video is clear. Image stablizer works well. Camera has little delay even at longer exposure settings. Battery life is good.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Would enthusiastically endorse this camera!
