5 out of 5 eggsbest card ever

Pros: gold plated, sound quality, expandability

Cons: user interface

Other Thoughts: Great card, sounds better than any other card I have purchased. Wish the user interface for it was more productive like creative's, but it's not a big enough deal to take an egg off for it.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent processing, buggy software and drivers

Pros: -DTS and DD mixing for games
-Integrates well with my home theater
-Gold plated connections

Cons: -Ugly. (I have windows on my case, and prefer more "dressing" on my cards).
-The software for this card was an absolute nightmare to get working right.
-Mixes EVERYTHING in DTS or DD. There is no passthrough mode. So when you want to watch a moviie with it's normally encoded audio source, the card will automatically re-encode it to whatever digital signal you're using.
-Optical connection doesn't stay "awake". Like many other Xonar cards. this one does not leave the optical port live all the time. Therefore, there is a slight delay in the beginning of every sound. To most people, it would be negligible, but to an audio nut, it's unacceptable. As long as an audio source on the PC is active, the issue doesn't exist (gaming, movie watching). Windows sounds and short audio tones are mainly affected. There is a workaround available (silence generators) but it's almost as annoying to have to turn additional software on as is dealing with the delay.

Other Thoughts: Great card, and seems to work better then most (although it seems sound cards are an unappreciated market, and therefore most are just mediocre and get the job done).

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Sound Board

Pros: Made in USA. Sturdy construction, professional sound quality, perfect for optical 7.1 surround. Cannot believe New Egg stopped selling these :( Sad when my new motherboard didn't have legacy PCI and had to say goodbye to this card. sniff sniff

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: see pros.. says it all

4 out of 5 eggsIt does what I wanted

Pros: It spits out the sound in DTS for optical. (all speakers are used) That's what I wanted.

Cons: I should have gotten the PCI-Express smaller version. I had to sacrifice my Crossfire to get this card in my box

Other Thoughts: The interface to set things up is in the control panel and not quite user friendly. But once you figure it out, it's sounds good. :)

1 out of 5 eggsBUYER BEWARE

Pros: 1. Great Sound Quality. Huge boost for under $100 bucks to the on-board.

Cons: 1. Driver's are terrible for Win7. Consistent problems after install.

2. First card died after 3 days. RMA'd

3. Second card died after 3 months.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY THIS CARD.

I've wasted over $100 on sending this card back for an RMA only to have the new one die shortly after.

4 out of 5 eggsStill looking for the best

Pros: - great sound quality
- nice options for surround
- easy UI interface for settings

Cons: - CD that comes with it doesn't work with Windows 7
- UI still doesn't startup with Windows sometimes
- bit pricey for the quality of the product
- still hard to figure what slots to input your speakers (no labeling in UI interface or on product)

Other Thoughts: You can tell that the company that made this product is a bit shoddy - they're selling function and no support it seems like.

Overall I've been pretty happy with this. I used a 5.1 Logitech system before and now using a 2.1 system and both worked pretty great on it. I used this card to replace my Sound Blaster that had some major driver issues since it was 5+ years old.

I'd say I'm still looking for a better version of this card in the near future hopefully, but worth buying this to hold you over.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Card!

Pros: This thing really cranks out the sound. Drivers are lightweight, WORKS on windows 7 64-bit. No reservations making this buy

Cons: A little worried about the pop from headphones on startup/shutdown. The manual confirms it can cause speaker damage if the speakers are left on. (using driver version Going to have to remember to turn them off

3 out of 5 eggs5v PCI only

Pros: Apparently it has great sound and high quality. I'll never know, because the motherboard I ordered with this doesn't support 5v PCI slots.

Cons: Doesn't work in motherboards that have 3.3v only PCI slots.

Other Thoughts: Not sure how to rate this, so I'll go with 3 eggs. If you're getting a new motherboard, check to make sure the PCI slots can handle 5v cards.
